Alright so I gotta level NIN for my CoP static because no one else feels like it..

I'm not going to lie, i hate the job, but we need it so, whatever. Now I've mainly stuck with mage jobs through out my FFXI game time, and this will be my first serious melee job. I know NIN focuses on Evasion. But what other stats should I be taking into account? AGI and DEX? or just AGI? STR? etc.. any input would be appreciated.

I'm currently a 33NIN. thanks guys.

if you have a spot open.... Which I doubt..... But if you do...

I have ninja for CoP missions!

Going by what my bf Xean used on his NIN on those lvls, he would have a haste/evasion set for regular meleeing, though I don't believe there is a lot of haste gear at that lvl. I believe for this set, you'd be looking for stats that add to your EVA and AGI.

He also had a set he'd macro in for provoking which added emnity, I can't remember if there's a lot of gear at that lvl for NIN that adds to emnity, but in a few lvls there should be some.

And then for your WS, any gear that adds to the STR and ATK would be useful.

Hope that helps some.

I'm not much further ahead of you, but for the time being:

eva > agi > str/atk

When you hit 40, the wheel becomes your god. Melee hits are not worth the time, you won't hold hate off good DD's by voke & meleeing alone. Thus I believe your priorities should change to:

eva > int > agi > str

Then when you hit 55 (which is Dual Wield 3, some say wait until 60 when you get Blade: Jin), slow down on the wheel and focus:

atk/str > eva > agi

Change that last one if you're having troubles with evading, and put that as priority one.

I'm only 42 though, so take the advice of a real nin over mine.

edit:

I think the first level you get enmity gear, aside from Cache-Nez and event gear (Dash Sash, Halloween hats) is 39 when you get the Eris' Earrings or whatever they're called. But that is a good suggestion, pack enmity where you can. Holding hate gets a lot easier at 40 if you're liberal with the wheel, but +enm can't hurt anywhere.

we are actually full Ruff :/ sorry it's a ls static.

everyone else thanks for the advice..

but i will say to Cmd.. INT? explain prs.

Only need INT for nin nuke tools, like katon, hyoton, etc. That way when you use the elemental wheel with your tools you'll keep more hate by doing more dmg.

Edit: Blah, Sharpe beat me to it lol. But yeah, stack up on agi/eva for tanking at a lower lvl on nin, just as everyone else mentioned.

ok, well i dont really use nin nukes, just the enfeebs.. int needed for those as well?

You'll find a need for the nukes once you hit 40 and get all the :Ni level elementals, it's not difficult to total 300-500dmg over the course of 10 seconds using the nukes alone.

I'm sure int affects enfeebs too, but not as much as Ninjutsu skill. I wouldn't worry about swapping in int gear for enfeebs.

It's pretty easy to land the enfeebles so you dont need to bother adding int for landing e if you dont want to.

High breath mantle is very good if you feel like spending the gil on a charged item. The emnity+5 is probably more than you need if you're a decent ninja.

dont bother with INT or magic attack for NIN nukes/enfeeble. youll get more benefit from an eva or agi earring.

Once you hit 40 you're going to be using these not only to produce dmg, but they also help your enfeebles stick by lowering the proper elemental resistance. For example, paralyze is associated with ice. Using Huton before casting Jubaku will lower the mobs resistance to ice causing your paralyze to stick better.

Along the same lines... Raition will help Hojo, and Doton will help Kurayami.

Tanking can be rough when none of your enfeebs are sticking, so i'd keep this in mind. It's even more important when you get an invite to a party thats over-hunting IT+ mobs.

For gear, I agree with whats been said. Focus on evasion > AGI/DEX, for now. Emp Pin and the evasion skill earring are excellent choices for that.

thanks for all the info guys, ill try the int thing and see how it works for me.

as far as emp hairpin goes.. ya.. im 0/20 on that bitch.. using an eva headband til i can afford to buy it.

Once I got to 28 I think it was, I off-handed an archer's knife and used Juji Shuriken, the dmg you get from those is great. Then at 40 I went to the wheel & shuriken. Use your Ni spells to help your enfeebs, and Slow and Paralyze are the ones you really want to land cause imo limiting the number of attacks the mob can do is better than the ones you may dodge.

I never focused on one set of gear for my Nin, I just carried more than one set. Cause if you have say a Brd for elergy and Hojo, you have no need for Eva gear.

But if you're not really into the job past COP I would say enimity and eva until you get Jin, and then you have to put the wheel down and go for the katana dmg. If you start to have fun with the job, have different sets of gear to be flexible.

Kurayami is dark based, doton doesn't weaken to dark, you sure on that one? I never enfeebled for Kurayami because of this reason, Hojo and Jubaku I did.

I have a nin gear question. I got a hototogisu last night so when i'm 55 do I go Sai/Hototogisu or Yoto+1/Hototgisu?
Go Yoto+1/Yoto+1 unless there's an x-bow rng in your party (the def down won't stack and theirs will stick much easier)
