I was curious.

I was reading a couple of threads and reflecting back on a few recent events in game and started to wonder. Why, if you decide to be a mage, would you choose the race that has the least amount of stats for the job?

I am really not trying to dig up a demon here, but I was reading the Yoshindor post and got about halfway through before it got drowned by the usual offshoots that these threads do. And I noticed that Yoshindor was an Elvaan, and it was stated several times that the WHM was a Galka. I really am trying so very hard as to not step on anyone's toes here, but, I was reading the dynamics of that situation and can honestly say it was doomed from the start. There was absolutely no MP to be found.

I partied with a JP Galka WHM the other night, really Good WHM, and we were fighting Goblins, which have an interesting habbit of commiting suicide at the sight of our Paladin. And No, we weren't hurt that bad from the bombs. But none-the-less the Galka WHm was seriously hampered. He had good gear, but I know that a Hume Whm at his level would have at the least 50% more MP. It doesn't seem like a lot, but when you are only doing chain 3's and you gotta wait for MP, not because the WHM is low, but instead Empty.... And your mobs are dying before you can kill them..

I was just wondering. I am by no means an elitist, but sometimes I get frustrated. Seriously, why would you play a job that you know will only be 66% effective?

Preferences mostly. You like the look of Elvaan go right ahead. When your just starting out, apperance is everything. You want your guy to look cool. Who cares about effectiveness. Then it realllly starts to set in at about level30. But by then, who wants to create and entirely new character, when you just hit such an important point in the game? I mean if your good at what you do go right ahead. But if you can only cast one spell before your outa MP at level60. There's something wrong.

It’s also a matter of opinion. If you read the RDM Forum at allk, there is always a debate if Taru or Hume/Mithra has the best stats for RDM. Personally I think Elvaans have the best stats for WHM, where most would disagree. Out of all the PLD I’ve partied with Taru have always been the best, where most people would say Elvaan or Galka would have better stats for it. It comes down to how you read the stats.

I CANNOT tell you how many times (and this is serious, some people are dicks) have invited me or /checked me and asked me outta the blue, "Why didn't you chose Mithra for THF?"

Some people just don't think I was gonna love THF when I started the game? That I didn't want to be decent at all my jobs? Because I wasn't sure if I was gonna go THF all the way?

Enough said, IMO THF doesn't make that bad of a job for Hume, expecially when I am just one of those people who always try to go for top notch gear.

(Oh and if you didn't catch it, I am a Hume Thief :))

I chose taru because 1) the character my name was based a child like character. 2) I originally wanted to play magic based characters (which kind of has changed a little) so I wanted a magic race. Some people just can't stand the look of a race. I've heard people say they would never consider being a taru because they can't stand the sick cuteness they have 8)

But I suppose you do also have to be able to live with what your character looks like as you'll be looking at it for days on end.

I don't think I've ever seen a Taru Monk played before, wonder what they look like when they do the punch, punch, kick.

I've seen Taru Asuran Fists ^^ was cool, did a backflip and stuff.. Do Galka's do a backflip?

My first character was an Elvaan RDM, but I found my lack of MP limiting by level 20, so I switched to Hume which has very nicely balanced stats for RDM. Now I kind of wished I’d been a Taru just because I want to look cute.

I do like the animation monks use when grabbing and putting away their H2H weapons.

If I see one more elvaan RDM I'm gonna puke.....

/em waits for the "Hey man Im not a cookiecutter, i pay 13 bucks a month, its my game, I do what I want!" responses from all around...

Bah I will party with them since it's such a growing fad to be an elvaan RDM  but I will definately be more picky and notice more when they screw up or run out of mp as a whm or blm compared to my cherished taru mages whom I lubbb so much! ^^

Don't forget its Elvaan RDM/NIN

Taru melees recieve the same problems associated with Galka mages....all I can say is that Tarus can melee as long as they have good equipment and food....tanking....I cannot say because I have never partied with a taru tank before.

Random is a very good PLD, I've only partied with him afew times, but he was good then. So I assume he's still kickin it.

Especially ones that chose the first character model with the short black hair. When I chose mine a long time ago, I thought it was original. But now, everyone picks that very first elvaan model with the black hair, and now it looks so cliche.

lvl 70 tarutaru PLD <------------ uber

i play pld because i can LOL
after i finished blm i wanted to play a job that was 100% differ then blm

Not to sidetrack this thread, but I've seen FIVE of these seeking for parties in the past 3 days.... can anyone give me a quick explanation as to WHY this is occurring? I can't really see the benefit of this combination in a party....

Because people hear RDM/NIN is super godly and can solo HNM, but they don’t stop and read that it isn’t that way until RDM75/NIN37.

I'd say the Galka mages deserve respect due to the point of how it takes a special kind of management to perform well in parties. Galka mages are high maintance and it can in many cases be more pricy. (Ether potions and the right juices etc..) This makes for more things the mage will need to keep track of, and weilding them at the right time makes for yet another good play.

For those who has taken Galkas to 75 as a mage class, truly are great players. After all, not everyone can boast about defeating Maat as a Galka RDM.

There are items that increase stats, and when put into use makes for a more acceptable lower MP mage. This can also ride on what kind of jobs are in the party aswell. As a Tarutaru Red mage, i can honestly say being the only mage in a full party of MP users, is critically life sucking, and imagining any other race doing such a task would make for a hard working member, any great player can learn from.

Elvaans can get away with their high mind, and they do recover quickly when resting. Every now and then a mage will steal hate, at times the mob does manage to deliver damage to them. Mages like Elvaan and Galka do have a higher survival rate in these instances.

We all know some races are better suited for cirtain jobs. Either it be based on race, or what items you use or how you play, sooner or later you'll be critisized for whatever it is your doing.

Personally i like Tarutaru tanks, for the higher evasion Ninja, and for PLD, i agree with Pascal, more MP and more evasion. But this dosn't mean its garunteed they won't get bitch slapped to death. As melee Damage dealers like Theif, Ranger and Dark, Tarutaru can do exceptional damage, but not like any other race. This does not mean the Tarutaru has gone to waste.

Without being in a static, it's mostlikely to be in successful party with all kinds of mages and melee classes. Whatever Exp. chain you and your party reach to, it's all a matter of how you support one another.
(Example: Don't let the Galka PLD have to use so much MP)

I chose Taru because I wanted to specialize in magic. Trying to level THF to 15 for Treasure Hunter (and thus leveling WAR to sub while I did it) gave me a taste for melee work.

But the stat problems are there, which is why I'll likely hold off doing any of the melee classes until later. I want my mage levels -- as well as craftaing and fishing skills -- high enough to be able to support the extra gil I'd need to compensate.

I watched a taru monk punch a lizard to death in Yhoater once. It made me feel very very intrigued by what was possible. I haven't ruled out paladin, either. But those are far down the road.

All i can say is that the best tank I ever had in an exp party was a taru Pld named LilBoyBlue. He was great. Granted this was in Quifm and I'm sure the further along you go the differences get more an more apparent.

My Galka will dabble in some mage classes but it will be just to mix some things up, when playing a melee class gets boring. Plus my Wtm will have to get to 37 so my Bst can be all he can be. (I know Chr for Galka is horrible) I know people are going to say please don't waste my precious time by bringing your fundementally gimped mage into my group but I say kick me if you must. Galka are made pretty tough, he can handle it. :P
