That's why I'm telling everyone to save their gil. Don't buy Linkshells anymore. It's a fucking waste of gil and time.
That's not the case for everyone, though i'm sure it happens very frequently. When I first joined the game, I joined a linkshell that broke up within months. Me and my bf, decided to make our own and we invited a few of the people we had known from the old ls we were apart of. These people then in turn invited a few friends, and in just over 2 months or so we now have a good group of more than 20 people. We don't have too many on at once as our members are in various time zones, but usually in the evenings there's a good 5-10 of us on.
The thing that makes our ls work, is simply that me and my bf spend as much time as we can helping the others out. When they need help with a mission, quest they need only ask us and we'll help them out. Sometimes we may be busy lvling, but we make arrangements to help them at a later date. Our ls is very friendly, helpful, courteous and we all have a good sense of humor that allows us to have some interesting conversations when you're waiting around for a party invite.
I wouldn't say that its hard to get one started unless you lack people skills, but in the beginning it does take patience. We've had a few people join our ls, and we never see them again. Everyone has their own preference as to what kind of ls they'll want to join, and it just takes patience in finding the right people who match your preference for you to have a good ls.
My advice if you want to create a good ls is to:
1. Have an approachable and friendly personality
2. Do your best to help the other ls members, everyone in the game needs help at some point and it always feels great to hear someone give a real thank you for you having spent the time to help them out
3. Don't get angry when people leave, it happens. You're better off having people that ENJOY being in your ls, then people who dislike it and are forced to be there. It'll create a better atmosphere
4. Have patience. Hard work and patience always gives the best rewards
My experience with the ls that me and my bf have created, is that linkshells aren't a waste of gil nor a waste of time. We have met some great players, and befriended good people in doing this. They're part of the reason we're still playing this game
