Obama you cowardly piece of shit...

Wow. Your views are terribly flawed.

The rescue operation took several days yes. but that was to increase the potential of rescuing the captain from the ship. The captain was rescued and physically unharmed. If the US went with your Ludicrous plan of going in from the second we knew there was a kidnapping then the captain could of been killed by the kidnappers along with several others who put their lives on the line to run in and rescue him.

Obama may of taken a bit long to respond. But there's several other issues surrounding the US and the world which takes priority over 1 mans life, and as several others have previously said, he's only been in office a short time. Give him some breathing space.

That's not my plan or my beef with him. You may want to reread the post again.

That's goes for everyone else who keeps putting words in my mouth.

His response time to allow him to be rescued is my problem. He is an incompetent buffoon.

The Defense Department twice sought Mr. Obama’s permission to use force to rescue Captain Phillips, most recently on Friday night, senior defense officials said. On Saturday morning, the president agreed, they said, if it appeared that the captain’s life was in imminent danger.

Actually. Allowing him to be rescued had nothing to do with Obama. However, using FORCE to rescue him had to be approved first. The Navy obviously tried to rescue him peacefully without anybody being harmed. He was already being rescued before Obama approved the use of force and to only use it if his life was in imminent danger. Why use force unnecessarily?

So maybe you should brush up on your reading.

If by "virtually completely US funded" you mean "about one quarter US funded", you might be onto something.

My understanding is the 25% funds the organization and excludes all the other initiatives we are frequently called on to fund in other countries. It's not like we pay our annual dues and that's the end of it.

I will concede 25% if you'd like. There's no point in quibbling on minutia. It's still outrageous one nation has to give 25% (though I'm certain it is much more then that.)

Why use force unnecessarily?

FORCE SHOULD OF BEEN APPROVED DAY ONE. IF THIS MAN WAS SHOT AND DIED ON FRIDAY WHEN HE TRIED TO ESCAPE BECAUSE OUR NAVY WAS NOT "APPROVED" TO USE FORCE UNTIL SATURDAY, WHEN THE PUSSY FINALLY SIGNED THE PIECE OF PAPER FOUR DAYS LATER, THEN HIS BLOOD WOULD OF BEEN ON OBAMA'S HANDS.

lolCAPS.

Force was not needed. It was a last resort. If the Navy was so concerned about using force before saturday then they would of continued to contact Obama. This just proves others points right. You've been watching to many films and playing too many shooting games. There was no need to use force immediately and it should only be used as a last resort.

Also. Obama isn't the navy captain. I'm sure they would of used force if his life was in danger before it was approved.

They did, TWICE. Then he made them wait another day to sign off. Disgusting.....

My point is IT WASN'T AN OPTION available to them. The pirates could of chopped his head off in front of them and they were not allowed to use force.

No he's the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, head of the armed forces. They were not allowed to use force until Obama said so. I will say it is completely ridiculous they even had to ask him first.

I know your just trying to give this trash the benefit of the doubt. Don't bother, he doesn't deserve your trust. He'd take four days to rescue you too. Assuming the pirates didn't kill you before then.

Because Obamas obviously doesn't have more important things to do then monitor the situation of a single mans life right?

There were helicopters and ships standing by so great attention was obviously being paid to the situation

Again. He has better things to do.

I don't need to rely on Obama to rescue my as I'm from the UK, a country which doesn't negotiate with terrorists at all. In fact I'd probably be left to die like THIS MAN

Sorry people in the UK have such little regard for the lives of their citizens. Why the hell do you even bother with having a gov't if there not elected to serve and protect the people. Might as well go back to your monarchy. I thought that was what democracy was created for.

Oh and your right, Obama did have something better to do during that week:

Anything would be better to do. The american government would be completely useless if every time there was a hostage situation, the president stopped everything to access the situation. There is a reason we have the military, is so that the president doesn't have to deal with every little thing. Especially if we have a military with a huge a budget as ours.

If you read the article. Ken was in Iraq captured for 3 weeks. So you should be grateful that the US military deals with these situations quickly and people of other countrys don't have that privilage.

I dunno about you, but I'd rather be force fed nothing than force fed bullshit. Nevermind anything he said about rescuing the guy could've put him at even more risk if word got to the Pirates, even if it was a lie. Avoiding the question was the best course of action, and only an idiot would argue otherwise.

If he was killed, well, that would've been his own fucking fault for trying to escape while plans for his rescue were being made, and it would have absolutely nothing to do with Obama.

I agree with that. All Obama had to do was say " Ok Get him back in one piece" and probably scribble his signature on a sheet of paper instead of putting it on hold for that long.

And my message to you Tom. Don't go off thinking Canadians are all inferior to Americans and don't pay attention to what's happening in the world. Our land is richer in several resources and we share them with you. The largest companies in Canada are American owned and the US still owes us Billions and Billions of dollars. We have your back and we let you sip on our milkshakes. We invented ALL 3 of your biggest sports, and you'd be shocked to see what kind of cutting edge technology comes from here. I'd never wish it, but you'd be surprised how difficult things would be for you if the world stopped doing trade with the US. Show respect for the people of nations that makes your surroundings as good as they are.

Well, Tom you make some decent points. The US is the biggest player in major world entities like the UN, IMF, and World Bank. Raes, you say the U.S. "only" contributes 25% (I do not know if this is an accurate number, but I imagine it is)...that is quite a staggering amount given that this is a worldwide organization. The UN is most certainly not run by third world countries though...on the contrary they have very little real say and I'm sure you are well aware that the 6 core nations have permanent veto power in the UN and in the IMF votes are determined by economic output (can't remember exact stat they use...US has like 16% of the votes though...basically the US and Western Europe can control the IMF policies).

At the end of the day every nation looks out for there OWN self-interests and that's just realty... We don't have any friends, we have allies. Other countries with whom we share mutual interests. Once those interests start to differ then that's the end of the relationship.

This is a fairly popular ideology in International Relations and Comparative politics, namely the bit about "self interest," however you negate bringing up this valid and popular line of thought with this bit:

run by mostly corrupt third world nations who would like nothing better to drag us down the toilet with them.

And so far it's been working.....

This is just false, and further more things like the IMF that are run by the major world powers have actually created the structures in third world countries that have kept them in this hand to mouth existence. I won't go around saying this is necessarily our exact intention, but the result of the neoconservative policies we promote in the IMF along with the fact that a large majority of third world countries were once colonies (namely of Western Europe) are why they remain third world countries. They are hardly dragging us down the toilet with them. I hope you are not so ignorant as to think they are poor because they are lazy people or aren't trying.

I have faith in that Obama didn't scribble his name until a plan was presented to him. Even if he did give authority on day one, it still would have taken several days for results to happen, just because our Naval commanders still had to come up with a way to ensure they could get him out without him or anybody in the rescue mission being put at unnecessary risk.

But then again, I'm not the one 'sperging out believing Obama personally should've flipped a motorcycle through the windows, blowing off heads while dual wielding submachine guns the moment this guy was taken hostage.

P.S. I'm 30 and I'd don't give a fuck what the rest of the world thinks of Americans. We know we're the greatest country to ever have existed in the world and as far as I'm concerned the rest of the planet are a bunch of jealous douchebags.
Most every citizen think their country are the greatest country in the world. However, I don't run around screaming "Sweden's the BEST! You're all fucking morons for thinking otherwise!"

And people wonder why the world doesn't think too highly of the US....
On the bright side, this thread gave me renewed hope that everyone in the US isn't a bunch of morons.

People like me, DON'T CARE, what the world thinks. At the end of the day every nation looks out for there OWN self-interests and that's just realty... We don't have any friends, we have allies. Other countries with whom we share mutual interests. Once those interests start to differ then that's the end of the relationship.
The same goes for humans as a whole. Everyone's first and foremost looking out for themselves and their family. Friends and others come second. Why this is a shock I do not know, as it is generally an accepted truth.

This "we are the world" crap is going to be the ruination of the United States. The virtually completely U.S. funded United Nations is a totally impotent organization, run by mostly corrupt third world nations who would like nothing better to drag us down the toilet with them.
The bolded is true. And ironically, that is the opinion you've seem to have had through the whole thread. As in, If everyone in the the US had your opinion, USA would no loner exist. Neither would most other countries I'd wager. As for U.N, I agree that the organization as a whole seem to be mostly incompetent, but probably for other reasons than yours. Mainly because the core countries have a veto, meaning a single no from those countries is all it takes to stop action. Naturally this is both good and bad, as it prevents a war between the core countries.

If those "third-world countries" it is apparently run by equals the core nations, then you'd be more right then you are now.

I wouldn't recommend them go charging in on day 1 either. I doubt they would have done it any other way if Obama said go for it on day one anyway.

On a side note it's understandable why Obama may have taken his time. He's trying to project a positive image for the world. I wouldn't imagine he'd just say go kill the fuckers on day one so easily. Plus it's a different story when your responsible for the death of some human life, regardless if they are criminals.
