I've had a bossy RDM in my PT last night, after our initial killer PT had to lose both its WHM and BRD.

What happened is a Goblin Butcher was zoned in Yhoator Jungle. Then, a Call for Help was issued. I decided to rush in and help with killing the monster, knowing fully well we'd be the first PT it'd aggro on its way back. The PT eventually followed my lead as I got killed right after unloading Eagle Eye Shot. The time it took me to take a chocobo at Kazham, the flame war started between me and the newly arrived RDM.

RDM: "?%*#!!!!! Why did you go help them?!?"
ME: "Because it would have strolled from the zone to our camp for half an hour if no one killed it."
RDM: "You ?%*#!!! If you go fight it, it WILL come to kill us after you die!!!"
ME: "Hey, if you're so afraid, why don't you zone then? It won't follow you there."
RDM: "Whatever, you're slowing down our PT with your antics! And almost got everyone killed!!!"
ME: "Between dying and coming back immediately to fight mobs, or sitting half an hour in Yuhtunga Jungle, I'd much rather take a hit and win it right back."
RDM: "It's not your business to decide if you're helping others or not. It should be up to the leader."
LDR: "Um........."
ME: "Listen, I'll go answer a Call for Help if we're not fighting or pulling a mob, okay? If you're not happy, then zone when I do, your xp will be safe."

Anyways, we got right back into getting xp and went as far as a chain #5. Glad I didn't leave the PT out of sheer frustration towards that ungrateful brat. Probably never pulled in his life anyways. But in the end, though I believe I did the right thing, I wonder if I would have had enough weight in my arguments if there wasn't enough people helping kill the goblin and it did stay near the zone in spite of my sacrifice. At least the BRD agreed with me on that argument, and we made friends over that.

I've started pulling in Yhoator Jungle last night. Thankfully, there was a PT taking on gobs from time to time near the hunting grounds, so it made my job easier. But I did had to slither past a Gob pop one time. If it had turned around, I would have bit the bullet. I kept looking back while on auto-run to make sure I didn't have it running after me. Better one death than half a dozen I always say. And a chocobo run in the Jungle is both cheap and fast, compared to being raised and waiting for weakness to wear off. I get that xp I didn't win back from the raise right as I dismount my chocobo into our camp, or in the hunting grounds if they didn't start pulling while I was away.

Still... Some people have that mentality that any xp loss is unacceptable, and aren't willing to look at the bigger picture. I don't expect people to play hero and take the fall on a bad pull every time in sensitive zones like Yhoator Jungle (and I've heard Garlaige Citadel and Crawler's Nest, haven't been there yet.) But dang it, if someone calls for help on a zoned gob, I won't stand idle knowing that it'll be coming back to kill me.

I think you did the right thing. I would of done the same!

On the other hand if you call for help stay and fight, I was also playing in the jungle and some guy with a gob running after him called for help. I tell my party "I'm going to help him" and summon leviathan getting ready to fight. So what does this guy do as I'm chasing him with my pet? He zones. This gobbo would eat me and my levi for lunch so I turned tail and ran to the opposite side of the zone that the gobbo spawned on. The more people helping the better chance everyones going to make it out alive! Don't call for help an run please!

That reminds me of last weekend in the Dunes. I got into a crappy PT with three gob aggro experiences.

1st: Right outside the gate leading to Selbina. Goblin Mugger aggros our L15-16 PT. I tell them to run. One says "Oh we can take it, we're 3 against 1!" Probably he only counted those engaged to it. I used a Call for Help and a DRG came and laid the smack-down on it. The same guy then went and said in PT chat "Yay! We pwned it!" I had to explain to them the whole concept of the Call for Help command.

2nd: We set up camp at Whitebone Beach, telling a newly joined 6th member where to find us. That newly joined noob says he aggroed a goblin on the way. I immediately tell him to zone it to town, hoping that DRG was still there. About two minutes later, he shows up to camp... and his goby made friends along the way. So I tell everyone to zone to town and start /shouting that a train of 3-4 gobs were on the way into town. Obviously, someone was new to the concept of a train, and started spamming "choo-choo!" in the /p channel. If I didn't knew better, I could have sworn Ralph Wiggum was in our PT that night.

3rd: We head back to Whitebone Beach once more, and I find ourselves a nice spot right on the beach. The fools aggroed another goblin. I run up to them, voke the Butcher and tell them to run for it. They don't, feeling they found a nice camp on the side of the cliff EXACTLY WHERE THEY GOT AGGROED! So I run to a fair distance from the gate and use Call for Help. Then I enter into running-around-like-a-headless-chicken mode, in hopes the DRG would show up. Instead, a Taru WAR 'vokes it off me as it was about to deal the fatal blow... "OMG, it's too strong!!!" was the response from the poor low-level WAR. The gob ends up killing him in a few blows, but just long enough so I could engage it and use my Mijin Whatever on it, taking out most of its HPs.

Suffice to say, I disbanded after that last mishap. I hope those guys learn quickly the ropes of the game, or else I don't think they'll ever make it to Kahzam. At least me and my LS were laughing our heads off as I relayed to them this horror story play-by-play.

e.e
thats happened to me before
someone called for help as he was fighting the gob, and so i started fighting it(this is in kazham) so after it dies, becuz everyone around the gob attacked it
but no one in my party engaged it
and one person said "WHY DID YOU FIGHT IT?"
i said, becuz its the right thing to do
the person: "So now we have to wait longer for you to heal so we can start fighting things again" "Its a wasted effort helping people fight it, you get no exp."
me: "Id rather help killing it than be ignorant and watch as people die, then it coming after us and killing us cuz we would have no chance"
after that i left and looked for another party, got one shortly after...heh, being a mage is nice =D

One thing that bugs me in the game is people who are too focused on numbers. I play the game to have fun. Sure, I like to get as much exp as I can in the shortest amount of time, but its not my driving force. If someone yells at me for going to help someone who is getting their ass kicked by a gob, I would gladly tell that person to shove it. It's people like that that make me not want to play the game.

-Ham

Here are what I think are the two best reasons to help others with mobs:

1) If you die doing it, it isnt as though you die in real life. Of course, that doesn't mean its right to go messing OTHER people up (training boatloads of crawlers to the zone in the nest, for instance), but death in the game isn't the end of the world. In fact, it lacks any kind of permenance. You can even pull a Jesus Christ pose and get raised. So do the right thing and help out people.
2)By helping someone, you've made a mark. At higher levels it can be very hard to find a pt some nights. Imagine someone is leading a pt and he needs 1 more guy. Think if he saw someone that helped him with that aggroed wight in Qufim, and if he saw 1 other guy who he didn't know. Who's he gonna pick? I've been picked for parties in the 40's for things I did back before I even had a sub-job.
