Official FFXIV benchmark.

...

The benchmark test won't even RUN on my PC O_O

God damn it!!!

As I mentioned, I had to update my drivers to use it. Which was actually moderately irritating, given that my drivers were relatively recent, but such is life.

At least with a September release I'll have time to decide if I want to upgrade my video card before Christmas. D:

Woooo I got my PC up and running again!

Ok, so I have Windows 7, 64bit. I've downloaded Direct-X, Updated my Drivers today and the program still doesn't work. It's frustrating only because my comp should be more than qualified to run this ._. I was looking on BG, and it said that you could probably get a comp to run FFXIV decently for $700... Well I spent $2000 on mine! If I'm having problems on this, I wonder if I'd have problems with the actual game.

I hope not, as I bought this comp for mainly FFXIV. It's the only reason I didn't spend that kind of money on a Mac. Anyone have any clues as to what to do to perhaps fix the problem. I've seen this same question on many forums, but it tends to go ignored, but any suggestions would be great. I can post comp specs if needed. The problems is that once you hit the "START" button on the app, it looks likes it about to work then windows gives same lame error message saying there's a problem and it needs to close.

Edit: The graphics card I have is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670. My brother found a site that showed that FFXIV should be supported by this. My comp also has tons of space on it, as it's pretty new and I don't really have anything on it yet.

You guys are puttin' to much effort into a terrible, terrible "benchmark". Don't worry about it.

from what i understand at the testers forum, the benchmark is extremely inaccurate and should just be ignored.

Yeah, a buddy of mine has a computer about half as good as mine and it scores way, way higher. This thing is just a load of garbage to get people to go out and buy Nvidias.

I was going to say..

I have a hp dv9930 laptop with NVIDIA 8600M GS overclocked at 650core/450memory with 1500shaders and I ran the benchmark and got a lousy 516

516??

really????

for 2 weeks I've tried tweeking/researching/directx11 upgrade and everything in my power to see if I could improve my score.
nothing..

until I read Strid's response on the matter,
now i can rest easy lol

Squeenix fucked up on this benchmark haha

I wouldn't rest too easy. Your core speed and shaders might match the minimum requirements for a video card, but your memory speed is what is killing your score. Your memory is clocked about 500 mhz below what the game needs to run according to minimum specs--and bassed on the graphics of the game I can hardly call the benchmark a complete joke if your score sucks that bad. Another major contributor to a low score, especially on LOW, is your CPU. The benchmark utilizes at least 4 cores, and if you only have a dual core processor it is bottlenecking your performance.

Bottom line is, the benchmark may not be perfect but it does give a good indicator of where your computer may stand when the game is released. The idea of it being a ploy to push more Nvidea cards is highly unlikely considering they also are giving similar chip requirments for ATI cards, AND some of the highest recorded bechmark scores were from ATI cards. Please people, stop spouting out things that you have no evidence to support. The plain and simple fact is that some computers may have worked fine for FFXI but they just may not cut it for FFXIV. Technology ages, you wouldn't expect to play a ps3 game on a ps2 would you? No, because the hardware is not compliant with the requirments of the game.

My advice to you is that I hope it's not a laptop. If it's a desktop, a video card that fits the requirments is a measly $60 or so. If it's a laptop, well I don't mess with those a lot but I believe it's safe to assume your screwed. Pricewatch.com, or google.com, best ways to find deals on computer parts, just remember to do your research before buying.

Suriou, I'd actually look into upgrading if I was you. Your memory card is below the minimum and your processor is right on the min. It may run it, and a hell of a lot better than the benchmark, but I doubt it'd be satisfactory. Also, what the old lady above me said had no bearing on that comment. However, I would check it out before I went and spent a lot of money. People who scored shit on the bench and have pretty low specs are running the beta flawlessly. Likewise, people like me who have a pretty damn good computer (well above the min. reqs.) are scoring complete shit.

Well, Savrean.
You're right on my laptop specs being barely able to even run the benchmark but honestly, it's only until the ps3 release.
I know my laptop isn't the best for gaming but I want it to be able to last at least long enough until I get my ps3.
Oh, and thanks for telling me how bad my laptop sucks for games, because in all reality I needed to hear that so I can realize to myself I need a new gaming platform.

Im thinking about a desktop but I like the mobility of my laptop, since I visit a lot of my buddies and play games over at their place.

If anyone finds a good laptop for a reasonable price, be sure to let me know via this forum or PM.

Strid, I'm not looking into upgrading but completely buying a new laptop sometime in the future.
I can also sell this one and use that money towards the purchase of my new one.

Anyways, like I said earlier, thanks for the comments on my post and if you see a good priced gaming laptop online,
be sure to let me know.

Going to add my $0.02 I guess…

The scores do seem very harsh on some PC’s but I don’t think the benchmark is complete garbage.

Having played the Alpha build on an older PC, media laptop and a newer PC I can say the scores seem somewhat accurate. Of course the Alpha build was running at a low resolution and the shadows/textures weren’t great but I can tell you how it ran for me:

Old PC:
Home build
Core2 Duo 2.4Ghz
nVidea 7950GX2
4GB DDR2
Ran like a dog on this, even after shutting down all useless processes and overclocking the CPU to 3Ghz. Some improvement after OC but still horrible to play, very frustrating. FPS 10-20 at times. I wouldn’t recommend playing like this for any length of time.
Unfortunately I can’t run the benchmark on this as I’ve sold on most of the parts. I’m near 100% sure that this PC would score below 500.

Laptop:
Dell Studio 17
Intel i5 520 @ 2.4Ghz
ATI HD 5650, 1GB
4GB DDR3
Alpha ran ok on this, slow at times but once you turn off the crap running in the background it was fine. Benchmark score on high was 2000+ (low near 3000 iirc) with all useless processes turned off, Dell dock, antivirus, etc.

Newer PC:
Home build
Intel i7 @ 2.6Ghz
ATI HD 5850, 1GB
6GB DDR3
Alpha runs perfect, even cloned the desktop with 2 19” LCD screens and a 40” TV running off the HDMI port to test the GPU temp & load.

Benchmark running on 1 LCD monitor:
High score: 4047
load time: 17613

Low score: 5293
load time: 16716

Edit: running the benchmark on high only on the 40” TV via HDMI output on the GPU only got me a score of around 2400 lol…

I’d hate to think how much you’d need to spend on a PC to get 8000+ ; ;

Problem I seem to be having is processor speed. Gonna need to be replaced, how involved is it to replace a processor? Seeing people post GHz and mine is like 2300MHz lol

2300Mhz = 2.3Ghz

I think this was a compliment? At first I thought you thought I was being rude, I'm not trying to come across that way. Gaming laptops are pretty pricey considering the GPU's cost more to construct for a gaming system laptop than a regular system GPU. They are out there though, but just an fyi so you don't get sticker shock is all.

Unfortionatly, my second system's vid card is in the same boat your in...hence why I built a new one. I am waiting till the games released to see if I will need a new card for my g/f to play on the secondary system or not.

that was a compliment lol

Here I was thinking I could boost my laptop's performance enough to make FFXIV work but that was ignorance on my part, and I'm glad you pointed it out to me.

I'm thinking of selling this laptop and just buying or making a desktop with the help of my tech friend so I can have a solid foundation for games, especially FFXIV.

I'll probably sell the laptop for 400-500 price range so it'll be close to 1/3 the price of my new one I'm planning on getting.

Thanks again, Savrean, now I have a goal to set forward to before September rolls around :]

Yes, make a desktop. They are infinity easier to modify over the years and a lot cheaper to do so, a lot. Sure you loose portability but there is a lot of money to be saved, and for better parts to boot. I wouldn't go out and do it just yet though if you're goin' to build it mainly for XIV. It wouldn't be uncommon for the system reqs to change between now and launch.

Acutie, replacing a processor is kind of tedious. It's not hard at all to place the CPU and the heatsink but setting up the Bios, if you don't know what you are doing, can be pretty hazardous to your PC. I'm not sure about the stores in your area, but I live near a Fry's Electronics. If you buy parts from them they charge pretty small fees to install those parts and get them running properly. They will also warranty their work. Look around for places like that. Best Buy does it too but they tend to charge way to much in my opinion.

Can you post or PM them? I'm interested in seeing them.

Looks like they dropped the processor requirements slightly, and raised the Nvidia card requirements slightly. And a bit more space on the HD, oddly enough. Other than that, it's basically the same.
