Official Halo 3 Thread - Halo > You

I'm near certain that Halo3 will be a 360 exclusive. I know too many people all over the country that are buying their 360 the same night as they pick up halo 3.

If anything, you will be waiting a pretty good while for it to be ported to the PC, much like Halo:CE

I dunno man, Microsoft is having a harder time selling Vista than XP ever had. It'll probably be used in the future months as a marketing tool to interest people in it. Because, lets face it, while the 360 sells, and will sell just for Halo, they make the real money from Windows. I can wait. Consoles are really iffy for me to buy, because I don't spend much time with them, and I dislike buying lots of games for them.

Plus, I just dropped some dime on a new rig.

It just depends on how long you are willing to wait. Halo 2 is going to be coming to Vista sometime around xmas, i can't remember where i read that though. Thats after being on the xbox/360 for well over a year.

More power to ya, BDF.

Story mode is most peoples focus for Halo3? You serious? Sure we want to "Finish the Fight." 3rd installment to the multiplayer monster with some of the most incredible numbers ever... Over 5Billion matchmade games... No way to count the customs lmao, what 10Bill more? Bleh no need to explain this stuff anymore. Anyways i am really looking foward to the game. =D
Hope ya have fun when it comes out lol.

Most everyone I have heard mention Halo 3 say they are in it for the story mode. That's what I said. Is it true or false for -the majority-? We'll never know. I'd be hard pressed to believe the majority of the people who buy it are excited about something that has been out now for years already, some new maps and weapons aside. Then again, some people are simple. Also remember, when mentioning those numbers, it was because it was the first and only of its kind for quite some time. You never know what FPS you'd worship had Unreal, etc., hit the Xbox Live scene before Halo. This will just be filler until GoW2 for most people, at most, I'm bettin'.

On the hypocritical side, if/when I buy it, it will be for multiplayer. I think the story blows and would only play through it to increase my gamerscore. I'd buy it simply to be able to kill people when/if my other games slow down and I know most all of my friends will have it.

Prepare to be amazed. Look at the online time Halo2 has still after being out for ~5 years. Halo3 will destroy that number by far. Sure, there will be a few who will buy it for the story, but with the online multiplayer campaign, even the story mode is multiplayer now.

I really hope they have revamped legendary mode to be able to challenge up to 4 people. Or at least have it scaled or something so that more people = harder.

yeah i dont know about the people you have talked to, but every halo fan ive known or talked to on this or various other forums for games say their primary reason for buying is multiplayer, everyone has said they cant wait to complete the story, but primarily they look for the multi player portion, which will dominate in numbers for games played in the on coming years.

i highly doubt its filler for GoW 2. Sure when GoW 2 comes out there will be hype and it will be fun for a little bit, but like everyone i played gears with, it gold old fast and we were back on halo 2. Gears is a great game in short bursts, but i wouldnt put it above halo. thats just me though and almost everyone i know.

Those numbers do not amaze me. Unlike most people, I realize that it had absolutely no -real- competition for the longest stretch of time. It was the only decent FPS even out on a console. Its online hours and matches played are only impressive to people who do not realize how long this game had the market to itself, as well. If you want the real "goods" check out how it stacks on Xbox Live ranks. When competition came to town, it went down, quickly. In its defense, Halo 2 was old then, I'll give you that. However, it's the same gameplay coming with Halo 3 so how long before that gets old too? I'm thinkin' if it does reach the top of the Xbox Live rankings, it'll be there until UT3 hits at most. It will surprise the shit out of me if it can survive past Epic's next release on the box.

You guys know if they're gonna finally set up dedicated servers for this game this time?

I wasn't really saying that you should be amazed by the numbers, but you said it would amaze you that the shit ton of people are buying Halo3 for the multiplayer, which is mostly the single reason they are. If i really wanted to finish the fight, i could do it in the paperback.

Plus, for being a game that has been out ~5 years, and still has a very very active multiplayer scene, almost as active as when it was first started. I've seen a drop in people playing GoW since release until now, and that has been how long? Coming up on one year now?

You seem to be severly underestimating the H3 fan base if you are so quick to discredit it, especially on the xbox live rankings. It will most definitly be at the top until UT3, and it will only drop (if it does) for a short while, while everyone plays UT3, until they get bored of it and want to go back to H3. Otherwise, thats a pretty even match there. I'd even be willing to say it'll give Epic a run for its money after a little while, because not just halo3, but near every game will be deserted when that game comes out, but you have to give it time for it to calm down before you can really look into it.

I've never seen the xbox live rankings, so i don't really know how it works. My whole paragraph above is based on the fact that the xbox rankings go off play time, and not some sort of user rank.

It's goin' to have to get passed Gears. I'm sure it'll do that rather quickly but still, it's better than what Halo 2 had to do. Hittin' soon it'll have Call of Duty 4 to compete with it and comming up in February you'll have UT3 hittin' shelves and I'm pretty sure, with only small doubt, that'll end the Halo 3 run. Not to mention, Gears 2 is coming within the 2008 year. There are a couple of small name games making some stink like Fracture and Timeshift but I figure they'll be a F.E.A.R. type game, very hit or miss, and probably will do nothin' more than preoccupy people of their main game for a few days at a time. As far as I'm concerned with Halo 3, I'm excited it's coming soon despite what I say. Everything I have been playing lately is loosing steam and having not spent a whole lot of time, maybe a little over 100 matches, with Halo 2 will make for decently fresh experience. I'm hoping it will fill the long void between now and February when UT3 hits, despite my previous "I hate Epic" rant for their choice to give PC Gears more than the 360 and their pullout on the 360 release of UT3 being the same as PC and PS3. I doubt it'll take me that long to get all of the online achievements but I'm also banking on Fracture and Call of duty 4 to fill in some time as well.

It's not me underestimating the fan base as much as I'm thinkin' to myself, "Uh, this is old and it can't last to much longer."

Not much of a question with that, it probably will be on top until UT3. However, UT3's problem will be that it's goin' to be to hard and fast for the die hard Halo fans. We all know Halo is easy and easy to be good at. It's slow paced, has aim assistance, and little to no life saving maneuvers intact (i.e. rolling, side dashes, etc.). People will figure out quick that it will be much harder to get good at UT3 and drop off the bill (if you've ever played any Unreal Tournament game, you know what I mean). Personally, I do hope they go back to Halo 3. In F.E.A.R. we'd get a few Halo junkies on the weekends and I hated it. They were useless and had no desire to learn to play a meaner game. It wasn't their fault they sucked but F.E.A.R. was just a horrible game with bad hit detection, right... However, if they are adrenaline freaks, some die hards will learn the game. It's a throttle pumpin' game for sure. Either way, the only reason people will drop off of the UT3 bill, if they do in the first place, will be because of its difficulty and I'd bet everything I own on that opinion turnin' true.

Players can't rank games by voting or anything like that. It's a popularity contest decided by how many people booted up X game over Y game and how many hours of multiplayer was logged for the game. I don't know what there time period is on clearin' the cache but the way they are able to show them weekly and monthly leads me to believe they never clear it.

You allready just summed it up Strid. No game is going to stop Halo3s online scene honestly. They would only temp slow it down. I think CoD4 and UT3 will only be blips for Halo fans man. I myself am interested in both. But you said it, CoD4 looks great but will be another military shooter with real life maps.(Example: Strip mall under terrorist control, or some other buildings and areas we can actually go lol) Wont work for me. UT3 will be incredible, totaly new worlds for us to explore. Like Halo has some alien unknown areas. But like you said, it will be very difficult and alot of people will just brush past it. Halo is the blend of both hard core and casual gamers. Which is probably the reason for its success. Im sure alot play it just because they are successfull at it.

Well, apparently the ending of Halo 3 is circulating the web now which is gay. I haven't read them since I want to actually play it and find out what happens. So if you read it, please don't post it here.

Not really suprising. People did it with Harry Potter, and people will do it with most popular things. Especially since Halo3 is already downloadable from some sites.
