Official Ps3 Pricing Info!

I was really looking forward to getting Ps3 at launch, after seeing the price a tear came from my eye. Still no doubt I still will get it either till prices drop or when everyone starts buying them like no tomorrow like the 360. I was going to switch and but 360 but after seeing FFXIII I can wait playstation always has better launch games and games overall in my view.

Don't forget. Ontop of the $500 Console tag. $80-90 for the Blue Ray games. Sony wins this rou---- oh wait, probably not.

80-90 per game, you've got to be kidding me

Heh Tauro, you know you're gonna be gettin a PS3 anyways, it has MGS4 and you can't stay away

Agreed, but I'm a junkie. Did you see the trailer? You must have! Don't do it, Snake!

Seriously, though, it's still too much money. Maybe I'll wait until some nerd leaves a store with his and steal it. ;)

Bluray man... 40gb per disc aint cheap!

"A single-layer Blu-ray disc (BD) can store enough for approximately four hours of high-definition video with audio. A dual-layer BD can hold enough for approximately eight hours of HD video. Capacities of 100 GB and 200 GB[1], using four and eight layers respectively, are currently being researched. TDK has already announced a prototype four-layer 100 GB disc." -From Wikipedia

Blue Ray discs can store a ton of data. They will be expansive to produce at first just like dvds were. Its amazing games stayed a standard price of $50US for so long given inflation and increased game production costs.

Holy balls, prototype quad-layer? Freakin snazzy!

At first release though, and I imagine well into the next coming years, PS3 games will probably be sticking with single-layer 25gb discs. So cost per disc should be a lot lower than what we're talking about there.

I have yet to see any game that has an install set larger than 8gb, and that's been very slowly increasing over the years. By 2010 I could see 15-20gb install sets, unless U3-based games hold as much data as I fear they will.

The largest space consuming games out there are the big time mmos. FFXI only takes up like 8~ GB of space with all updates and expansions. I don't see any game within the next 5 years using the full capacity of the single layer blu-ray discs.

hehe we'll see. The games could be VERY detailed graphically and VERY large (MMOs with a world that's truly world size.. now that'd be hawtness). Who knows.. we'll just have to wait and see what they make. The more and more I see of the PS3's capabilities the more I want it. I need a job x.x

Games are restricted by how detailed they can get graphically by the consoles GPU core. It's not a storage issue, it's a hardware issue.

Well, if you don't use up all the space on the discs, you still have to pay full price for it. There is no paying for the storage used by the production companies.

and PS3 doesn't have that hardware problem, atleast, so I thought it was.. hmmm or.. atleast can be far more than any other system

Precisely what I'm negligibly negligible on, negligibligationally. Pronounce that, b_tches!

MMO based on the U3 engine = o_O

I saw only screenshots of that engine months and months ago, and just that was enough to give me perma-wood for the next year or two. I could easily see the zomg megatextures for that engine surpassing current textures tenfold in storage requirenemts.

I hate n & m bass-ackwards mofo pieces of dung

I think he was pointing out the fact that we wont have to shell out for dual- triple- or quad-layer Bluray's anytime soon.

On second thought, I see some game developers cutting back on encoding with this technology so it's possible that the discs could be used to their full capacity sometime in the near future. That's only assuming the devs are taking advantage of the fact that they can cut back on a tad bit of work with all of the extra space.

So who read the article about the controller? In case you didn't, here it is:

I'd bet anything that the Sony fanboys would praise sony at their "innovative technolody."

this made me lol cause you're a fanboy praising Nintendo for their "innovative" motion sensor.. guess what.. NOT NEW! Nintendo didn't create it.. it's been around for awhile just nintendo is making more use for it with games. (Virtual Reality, ever play that at an arcade or anything?)

They didn't steal the technology they stole the idea. I seriously doubt that Sony had any intentions of putting it in their controller before the Wii's controller came out (hell they wanted to go with the banana phone originally). Besides its not like sony doesn't have a history, of stealing shit.

Besides i honestly doubt sony will use it in more than 5 games and i would be very suprised if even one of them was any good.

Sony's motion thing is hardly useful compared to Wii's. And for the last time.. if you all wanna say Sony steals I'm gonna start my "Nintendo steals from Atari" and shit campaign. I see Sony as changing their controller back to the old way to keep people that didn't like the boomerang (though that controller looked VERY comfortable.. people shit all over it before they even saw its actual size or tried it much as people did with Nintendo's remote control controller). Motion Sensor seemed like they were just trying to throw something new to make it seem better but that seemed rediculously stupid to add. Motion sensor in that type of controller seems very useless for most games. Really only seems as though a car game or flight simulator would make use of it... more maybe for a tilt down to crouch thing in a FPS.. still.. I don't see it being useful. I still wanna know what this "history" of stealing shit sony has. The controller? ya.. not like Sony was the only company using that style. Sega did too. So did the Pippin (Macintosh's only consule). It's a design that makes sense for our human hands with our thumbs and all. Companies? Nintendo fans bitching about Squaresoft (now SE) going to Sony? I'm sorry that the playstation offered more for Square than the Nintendo 64, get over it.

I would fancy a guess that they will continue compressing install sets in the future to the same ratio they do today, even with such vast storage capabilities. The game publishers will still save factory equipment time by pressing discs with less data.

Look at how long DVDs have been out, and how recently games have been taking advantage of them. Even then there are very few games that come close to the max capacity of a DVD.

I don't believe that's Sony's decision. Game developers need to make the choice whether or not to include support for advanced controller functions, so blame the devs and not Sony if the m/s enabled games are crap.

Yeah and? What's your point?

OMG consoles have progressive scan and greater than 640x480 resolution... but wait, PCs have had that for a VERY long time.

What bearing does that have on the home console industry?

my point is that the Nintendo Fanboys harping on that shit is getting fucking old and if they are gonna keep that up I'll throw in my nice "Nintendo isn't truly innovative" fun.
