PS3 Official White Knight Chronicles Thread - WKC2 Set for July 8th. New Trailer.

I've been watchin' a lot of this lately and I'm totally goin' to give them another chance. I like that they changed the speed of combat as well as the "flare" given to the moves that were absent from the first. I also like how they figured out how to make armor that didn't resemble my grandmother's tablecloths an curtains, I have seen some really nice lookin' garb this time around and that goes for the weapons as well. Hopefully they'll sense up another level and leave the Japanese voice track in. Their entire reason for cutting in the first was utter fuckin' failure so no excuses this time around.

Here's to hopin' it gets here before the PS5!

Well, Level 5 have their own US studio now so it probably won't be too long until a US/EU release.

God, that would be swell.

As far as I know that sector will not begin operations until September. I would think it will be out sooner than the first despite that though. What really scares me about that studio is they have said their main reason for opening it is to gather developers from the West to make games that appeal more to our taste. That just spells disaster in my book.

I don't think it's so bad if you're using western developers.
When eastern developers try to appeal to a western audience, you get... Last Rebellion.

And when eastern developers use western developers you get Bionic Commando (not the original, the flop).

They may do some good, but history is there to serve as a lesson and history is against this move at this point. It's kind of like when men tried to emulate flight for the first time. They just figured, "Birds have wings and they fly so if we have wings we will fly!" and they failed, miserably until they started to research the actual physics of flight instead of lookin' just at wings. Unfortunately, if the eastern developers started doin' research in the same vein they'd find that games here are made for those with the most simplest of minds, majorly speaking, and make more garbage to add to Gamestop's shelves.

Can't take the credit for the flight analogy. This issue just reminded me of a rather well fitting article I once read: http://malstrom.50webs.com/birdman.html

Wait so they are adding to the first game when they release the second game? Guessing it will come in some kind of combo then? That will be good, I wanted to play the first game and if there is going to be improvements to it then even better!

The second game comes packed with the first game, and the first game has been updated to have all of the second game's gameplay improvements.
Sans the player's knight, I assume.

And I wouldn't call it "yet another FPS", but that's just me.
argue argue etc. etc.

Hmm, guess if the second comes with the first upgrade and it's actually good, I'll get it :P Never got the first

Ok. So, here's why they included the first game in the same disc as WKC2. You HAVE to have a clear game of the first in order to play the second. No skipping to the 2nd game is allowed.

Well at least they're including it for free at charge? I mean, if they aren't that is kinda off.

Yes. WKC2 includes all of WKC. No worries there. I guess it's in case people didn't get the first game but purchased the second.

Ah well, then I guess only good can come of this for first time buyers of the series (like me, yay!). Do feel sorry for those who maybe lost their save data somehow though, guessing it runs off of it that way?

Saves do carry over if you purchased the original game if that's what you mean.

Yeah, poor level 5 that this idiot got a hold of the game and sent out a review on it. He obviously didn't get very far as he mentions how your avatar has no special abilities and often takes a "back seat"... The avatar very much has a special ability in that if you unlock it, which he didn't, you can "knight". Also, the avatar is the story for the most part, without the avatar at about the 60% mark, there isn't a story, it's no longer about Leonard so much. The story for Leonard does conclude, but that's not the war. The avatar gets to finish off the real shabang in high ranking guild quests online. The improvements made to the gameplay are far from a "band-aid" as well. WKC to me was mediocre in gameplay, but the changes implemented have turned this game into just something amazing. It's so much faster, harder, and more intuitive than WKC ever though of being.

I expected a game this deep to get bad reviews, since that's the trend with actual good games, but it's frustrating seeing most of them are just filled with terrible information, wrong information even. Much like FFXI, to get anything out of this game you have to put a hell of a lot of time in to it, heck, I'm 122 hours in and I'm still low on the totem pole. So these guys, they just have no clue. I'll give him this though, the single player isn't great, but if you're playin' this game for that, you're doing it wrong, terribly wrong. This game is exactly what Level 5 meant for it to be, an online RPG, and it's a damn good one.

Ah, see this is things I'd like to learn :P I really never got White Knight Chronicles and with 2 having both, if it really has such richness to it when you put your time in, that seems like it might be worth getting then.

It's pretty much a lighter version of FFXI when you boil it all down, gameplay wise, and the loot system is like Monster Hunter (material farming, crafting, monster part breaks), until you're strong enough to dungeon plunge for chests with random stat items, like Diablo. And like those games it has its grinds and payoffs afterword, all the same. However, it's not for everyone, not even a majority. If people don't enjoy the class system and combat, no way they'd stick with the game longer than the guy who did this review, which was probably a few hours.

You do really have to force yourself through the story though, especially in the first game. The voice acting and dialog share atrocities on levels that no other game has probably ever been near. The story is stupid, the cast sucks (all of them), and well, I don't have a good thing to say about any of it. It's just, the gameplay is so good, I didn't care. Going from point A to point B is why I play this game. Pretty much the same can be said for the second game, but the gameplay and your options/abilities open up more and you can do some really fun, neat stuff. For example after a certain part in the story these space rifts open up on all the maps and it serves as a gate to a mini dungeon, you have bounty hunts, and just little things like that. And then there is how much different the combat is, it requires mounds more strategy now which really livens up the game for me. Anyway, all that said, there isn't any reason in the world anyone shouldn't be able to clear both stories with a combined time of 40-45 hours. That's shooting high too. If you consider that there is zero point in opening chests and do anything aside from the main missions, which is completely OK, it can be done in probably 30ish hours. You can always go back and do anything later, like grabbing chest and exploring since the entire world is open when it's all said and done (not one single missable in the game).
