OK, it's now snowing here in Indianapolis. Now, I've lived in Chicago all my life- and if you're familiar with Chicago you'd know that getting the roads plowed and salted in a timely fashion is a BIG deal. Mayor Byrne actually LOST HER JOB because she dropped the ball back in '76 (I think that was the year, it was a little before I was born). So if there are reports of snow, they have a massive fleet of trucks out 3 hours before the first flake hits the pavement, crusting everything in 3 inches of salt.
Cut to Indianapolis- I've got what looks to be about 5-6 inches in my backyard right now, judging by how high it's piled up around my garden lanterns. We have YET to see a snowplow go through the intersection by our house. Mind you, this isn't a dinky intersection either. Allisonville Road is the main thoroughfare to get to I-465 and Castleton Mall, and it's totally swamped with snow. No plows, no salt. How can people live like this? God forbid, I've been spoiled by 20 years of a public works department that's expected to actually DO THEIR JOB. -_-
