NEW YORK — A friend says a 9-year-old New York City boy might have been imitating a video game character when he apparently made a plastic parachute and jumped to his death from his apartment building's roof.

Police say Domori Miles likely cobbled a plastic bag and rope together before flying off the 13-story Brooklyn building Tuesday. The items were found on the ground near his body.

Ten-year-old friend Shakar Murrel says Domori was a fan of the wrestling game "WWE SmackDown vs. Raw" and loved wrestler Jeff Hardy's swan dives.

Stamford, Conn.-based World Wrestling Entertainment expresses sympathy but calls for "a full investigation ... before conclusions are made." It says no "SmackDown vs. Raw" characters jump off buildings or use parachutes.

Domori's mother tells police she had gone to the store.

Yeah, Fox News, of course it was a video game that made him do it. Everybody knows that wrestlers use parachutes all the time. Famous wrestlers like "Parachute Man Randy Savage" and "Jake the Snake (Who Also Parachutes)"

Here is the same news story without the video game angle.

Is it too soon for an Owen Hart reference?

Lulz about Owen Hart. It's not too soon, it happened when I was a younger teenager.

I can't believe they tried to twist a retarded kid jumping to his death with a homemade parachute into blaming it on a wrestling video game. Wow.

I feel for the kids family and all, he must have had one hell of an active imagination to think that a plastic bag would save him.

:nono: Owen Hart wasn't parachuting. He was trying to drop in via harness and rappel line. I don't know of any times when a wrestler actually parachuted into the ring. If it ever happened it would have been during a big event. I don't think that it's ever been in a video game. It's been almost 10 years but I don't think that it's funny to joke about it.

I wasn't making a joke about it (for anyone wondering), I was asking consensus in the event that anyone *else* actually did.

Emulating a videogame character? Sounds like sensationalism at its finest.

Emulating a wrestler? Maybe one of those backyard types.

Emulating a dumbass? Came naturally for that one.

Said it before, saying it again. Bad parenting. Either that or weak genes.

They took Bugs Bunny off the air because they were scared that Wile E. Coyote falling off cliffs or Bugs getting shot at by Elmer would give kids bad ideas.

Yea, if a cartoon coyote can survive that fall, WHY CAN'T I!?

It's called common sense. Moron. This is why we have the Darwin Awards.

If anything i would blame it on GTA:SA where you could actually jump out of planes with parachutes. But Wrestling?

Its never too soon. I give people anywhere from 1 week to a month

Had he been following Owen though, he would've jumped without a parachute. ;)

Yeah I can't ever see that being funny. But that's cause I've actually met some of the Hart brothers. At least 2 of them substituted for my teachers in Junior High.

But the story at hand is ridiculous. I'm with Make and Mire on this.

Blaming Video games*

*Bad parenting

HE SHOULD'VE USED THE SUPER MARIO WORLD CAPE OR THE SUPER MARIO 64 WING CAP. HAHA, THAT WOULD'VE BEEN FAN-TASTIC!

I wouldn't blame anything other than this kid trying to be adventurous. I know when I was a kid, I was fascinated by parachuting.

My older sister went on the roof once when she was about 8, her and her friend thought that tying a bunch of helium balloons to a garbage can would make it float, so they got into the garbage can and rolled off the roof...

She was raised by my mother. My other sister and I were raised by my dad, thank God. Then again she has a different father, so I stick by my possible "genes" comment >.>

When I was five years old, I decided I was going to learn to fly, by jumping off the jungle gym. I didn't do the "bellyflop on the ground routine", but I did stretch out my arms and land on my feet, a mere four feet off the ground.

It was embarrassing, but I didn't die. Good thing too.

This is the fault of everyone that voted for Obama!!!!!!

If you had voted for Thompson instead....

lol...

The problem is America in general. No one is willing to take the blame when they make a mistake and instead look for a scapegoat. The problem was bad parents.

The thing there, is that the "bad parenting" only extends as far as her leaving to go to the store and not getting a neighbor to sit or taking the kid with her. How he was raised, even though unknown, is a nonissue in this case.

I don't agree quite so in cases like this. Mind you I like to kinda think out my feelings case by case.

Kids WILL be kids eh.

If I started to list all the reasons and times I've had a trip to the hospital you ALL would think I should be dead. For seriously!!

He was a stupid kid unfortunately. Not all that bright. The only thing I wonder aboot is how parents can be so blind to how stunned a kid they may have and not keep closer watch until well old enough.

At 9 years old though, for the most part parents can allow their kids to entertain themselves for an hour or so at a time without having to check on them every five minutes. Again, that's for the most part.
