Oils & Powders... why don't people have them?

These people can afford to buy sole sushi and other expensive foods, but can't afford another 30k to buy a stack of oils and powsers? I call bullshit on that one, they are just being cheap bastards.

Sole Sushi: about 40k already.
Sneak Oils (stack), Invis Powders (stack): 30k
Take away about 10k just rounding down: about 60 friggin thousand gil for every two parties just for so called "essentials". Not including if your a ninja or ranger.

So don't call melees cheap just because they cant back up the extra 30k off of buying the food and their gear. Its one of the reasons why I quit melee. Because I could never keep up with the money I spent buying food and sneak oils and invis powders just to make you mages not flame me.
but its NOT hard to farm 30k worth of crap gimme a break. That's what I'm saying. And lets see, during party, usually you know which camp you are heading too... you likely have to use 1, maybe 2 oils and powders at a time. A stack of these will last you quite a long time (unless you're running around sky.) I'd like to see what would happen if a melee showed up in sky to farm and said "hey sorry guys, I didn't want to buy oils so I need a mage to babysit me" while surrounded by magic aggro and sound aggro mobs  do you think they could get away with saying "well I spent 40k on food and about 573564368763 on gear and I just don't want to spend 15k on silent oils!" omfglolbbq

I can guarantee that shit won't fly. Why should it be any different for xp party? It shouldn't.

Bah, just another reason 95% of the melee are garbage. They are always the ones to not have this shit.

Such and angry lil man, need a hug?

Anyway yer right .. not about the % or anything but it is pretty silly not to have this stuff around when you go out. Aside from that it's 10x more assanine to get loud and annoying when you get yourself killed relying on a mage sneak/invis knowing full damn well it's gonna wear at the worst possible time.

i agreed with vang about something.

I feel dirty...

"need" to be taking a break...when all itt costs people is to stop and agree to all recast at a designated area and not run off like idiots.
If there's only one sneaker, maybe. If there's two, you're stupid to use oils or powders. Learn some teamwork instead of making people play the game how you all play the game--alone using people.

You Dont use them THAT much. I bought 2 stacks of each as a level50 Drk. At 57, I still have 18 powders and 9 oils, and most of what was used was used playing "Dodge the fucking ugly Dragon" in Kuftal.

You want a pickup party to coordinate sneaks, with inconsistant timers, and other things.....

The gill sellers will see sea first.....

I know its not hard to farm that 30k and blah blah blah Im just saying Its another nail in my foot everytime I buy it. But I always buy it. Yes I dont want to but I do it anyway.

I do my part, I buy sneak and invis powders. But Im going to shutup here before a mage vs melee flame starts.

I personally have never bought oils or powders cuz of the crazy prices they go for, I ethier just ask the whm "nicely" to sneak and invis me or I just run around all the mobs (which can be time consuming at times I know but I do get the party) and thats only when the whm doesn't want to come out there and get me but yes I do beliveve it is there job (I mean they do learn the moves right!?) plus whenever I play whm I don't mind going back and sneaking them so I don't know what all these mages are whineing about now >_> but hey why should I care i'm done with SE anyway and all their BS (I'm just adding me 2 cents)

Ive said it once, and I'll say it again.

I carried Powders and Oils on my 68BLM/34WHM all the time. Atleast ONE stack of each.

Most of the time, I was giving out 3-4 to a "lazy" mele who was just bitching and winning that they could not afford it.

this is what really "grinds my gears" (hehe family guy) too because I carry oils and powders on me all the time too for those occasions when I can't cast due to magic aggro.

Yotar, you'll learn soon enough that you'll have to buy oils for mage AND melee jobs when you start xping in places with magic aggro.

Actually no i wont because like i said before i'm done with the game have been for awhile now ( I just didn't do the whole mushy goodbye everyone hope you have a wonderful life bit I just quit without telling anyone) also to the ppl that said just go farm and get money to buy them have you seen my main?! yeah i aint farming anymore cuz SE and their wonderful ideas (sry rl things makeing today suck as well so i'm just steaming in the one place its allowed)

Another fact...it's always the people who GET LOST IN A ZONE that never have their bloody oils/powders too. I have never seen a person who gets lost and says, don't worry, I have oils/powders on me... it's more like:

"F@ck, sneak's wearing...where the hell am I? I'm lost.... oh .. OW OW OW... oh guys..I'm dead..come raise me."

In a nut shell, that's how I see a lot of morons act who do not have the oils/powders. You know what? If you spent the time to get something as little as that, it probably implies that you don't want to be F@CKIN burden on anyone else. This is another reason why I hate levelling in Valley of Sorrows/Cape Terrigan right now. Half the people in the pick up parties don't bother with these items. So I have to wait and babysit after them to get them through.

Even in Kuftal Tunnel, i have to carry oils/powders because they're constantly air elementals.

Btw..
Melon Pies +1 40k a stack too. But.... do I use the whole stack in one party? I doubt it...

Wait, hold on - isn't being dependent on other people to carry you safely from one zone to another using someone else? How did taking care of your own stealth tools turn into 'using people' and using someone else for Sneak/Invis become 'teamwork?'

I'm confused.

I won't leave my moghouse without oils, powders, and echo drops. It's just not going to happen. Eilistrae is absolutely right: If you can buy food, you can buy powders and oils. If you can't buy them, you need to farm or fish until you can.

I've done my fair share of sneaking and invising people to camp, and I used to do it without complaint. Not so much anymore. Nowadays, good luck getting me to do it without first asking in party chat why you don't have your supplies.

I don't mind eating a death to keep my party alive if I have to, but I won't die for you on the way to camp if the only reason is you're a cheapskate.

Yes, powders and oils are amazingly useful, even at lower levels. Have you ever been in a Qufim party and had to wait 15-20 minutes for your party members to get to camp because they dick around waiting for Dancing Weapons and undead to get out of their way? 1 or 2 silent oils tops will get you through the entire zone and you can get right to business. There really is no excuse to not having them.

There are two camps for this argument:

1) The people who believe that because mages get Sneak and Invis in spell form, they are obligated to babysit everyone through an aggro-rich zone.

2) Sane people.
It gets awfully lonely in the second camps sometimes.

I think the second camp is only the mages...

I did the same Falsey...someone had a great idea on here once about putting your oils & powders in your bazzar when people start talking about not having them...lol

Well.. this is my first time starting a flame (ya-hoo) and it's not about anyone in general.. but I'm getting on my last nerve with people coming out to exp pts w/o oils or powders..

I have two ways of looking at this both from the eyes of a mage and melee.

An example today, I was in Crawler's Nest down past rumble room. Everyone had powders and oils but our dark knight. Our white mage kept running back into main hall sneaking him until his wore while we all waited in camp. Now, I can excuse the fact that it wore at a horrible time and location, but anyways, he died right in the middle of rumble room in a fun little circle made up of about four rumble crawlers. I have not had a party in about a month where we have all gotten down to rumble room without a single death. Two people died in my party today, the dark knight being one and our paladin (who had oils so she's cool ^_^) I have no problem buying or snything oils and powders. Being a high lvl alchemist I can HQ these pretty easily.

As a mage however I find it a little annoying when I have to keep risking both my life and threatening the party by killing my buffs so I can rebuff another whose lost theres. Now, I am not a stuck up mage who will deny people sneaks and inivis. Sure, I will question why you don't have them and be a little peeved. I know, as a white mage, it's my responsiblity to keep everyone safe. It slows up time getting to camp and like I said, opens all kinds of doors to all sorts of fun aggro. However, I do not mind at all when my party first sets out in aggro-land that I give them the first buff. Yet, when the train starts a movin' I wanna keep it that way. I hate feeling obligated however to sneak/invis though. Mages have any thoughts on this? I find that oils and powders are just as important as brining food to your exp.. the point is, you don't leave town without them.

Actually Reya. I was the Dark Knight in your party.

Lets Correct a couple of things. I had Oils and Powders and as a matter of fact. I beat you all to the room.

I was nice, safe and sound when the Paladin yelled "Aggro". I said well you are as good as dead out there, so just die and I will tractor you." I threw on my powders and oils to get out there and tractor.

My oil wore off fast. It wore off as I was in the rumble room. Which is where I died. Then came the plan from one of you guys who was still alive to carby pull.

Unfortuneatly the SMN in that party was horrible and let carby die. Killing all of you, including the PLD who had just been raised in the first place. How do I know this? because as you guys started to die, I said to myself this is ridiculous. This party doesnt know what its doing. Because if they did I wouldnt have gotten killed going out for the PLD when I was already safe.

I even met up with the PLD in jeuno, she messaged me and told me that the party set up was a joke and left the group as well, and you are right Melee should carry Oils and Powders but, if they don't the Mage should have the knowledge to help their party get through. Mages are in fact "Support" jobs are they not?

Anyhow, We started our own party and leveled well in the quicksand dunes. No deaths, fouls, nothing. Not flaming you or the party but if you tell a tale of what happened, even if no names are mentioned, you should tell the story with the correct parties, even if its not the complete story and only the melee job or mage job at the time was to blame.

Damius, this isn't directed only to you, but to everyone who once told anyone this reason. I'm just writing it here cause you brought up that excuse.

I love these answers ... MY SNEAK WORE OFF FAST

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but you have 3 warnings before it wears off. I've been playing this game for over a year now, and i have NEVER found myself in a situation where i didn't have enough time to hide before the 3rd warning. So please, everyone, stop with these "Sneak wore off too fast" or "I didn't have time to recast" or "I didn't see it wear off". You get 3 warnings, and they're written in red!!!!! How the hell can you miss that!
I mean, come on, seriously. Just admit it, you didn't do shit to hide before the 3rd warning...

And i agree, if you don't have Sneak and Invis spells, Bring your damn oils and powders!! Yes they're expensive, yes it's a pain to buy, but hey that's how it is! I'm lucky, i don't need to buy them as BLM except for special occasions (which is why i always keep some on me), but trust me that when i play PLD, i ALWAYS have them.
