Oils & Powders... why don't people have them?

Maybe he took the invite because he's a Dragoon and not a mage? Not that I take blind invites as a Dragoon, but you can't be 'as' picky about your xp when playing melee.

Even if you spend more on consumables.

Now I leave town with 4 stacks of shihei and enough ash lumber and bolt heads to equip a roman legion with arrows. Screw oils, prisms...and parties.

thats good you are saving 2k gil a party, is that going to your Scorpion Harness fund, or are you planning on being a gimp THF the rest of your FF career?

There are two camps for this argument:

1) The people who believe that because mages get Sneak and Invis in spell form, they are obligated to babysit everyone through an aggro-rich zone.

2) Sane people.

hahaha I agree.

Though I do think Mages should *try* and help and not be major assholes and just leave melees hangin. This is a group thing and we should not forget that.

I believe I mentioned that I wanted to get Penta Thrust. That is why I took an invite. I wasn't seeking, but it wasn't just blind. They did ask if I wanted to PT and whatnot. I've met some pretty cool people in random parties. /shrug. I'm sorry that you see any idea of partying outside a static as ridiculous. =/

It seems there are a lot of debates regarding oils and powders.
Personally I think if you are going somewhere where you may really, really need it then, of course, it may be wise to. I agree, but I also think oils and powders shouldn't just been used like you are a gillionaire.
I think the purpose for the oils and powders are for emergencies so that way you don't screw up the party and yourself in the long run.

Whats preferable? Waste oils and powders from a starting safe zone and end up not having enough when you get into a tight jam just because of no start up sneak/invis from magic? Or...when you are in a safe zone, if its cool with the mage, "ask kindly and courtiously w/o demanding one" for sneak/invis, and if you "happen" to fall into a danger spot and the mage is not nearby "use the oil/powder" and save your life and possibily the mages as well?

I dunno..I just think considering the amount of oils/powders you can only stack, its best to go through an aggro field wisely rather than being too depending on the mage or not coordinating witht he mage and the stock you have.

So for people in places like that, think about it beforehand:
-Rely on mage too much?
-Coordinate with the mage and also have oils/powders on you to prevent danger to the pt and yourself?
-Waste oils/powders freely like a mad man which can nib you in the rear and your pocket change?

Personally i'd go with the second choice. Keep you and your pt safe, and there should be no worries. If a mage however offers to back you up thats at their discretion.

slimes are a pain to fight if you don't have magic.

being one of the opportunists that used to supplement his income on sneak oil prices(fyi, my ah rates are ALWAYS 10% less than going rate cause I'de rather sell fast and hate inflation) I can firmly say I disagree with the above statement. As afr as oil farming is concerned the end all be all of slime oil is Korroloka tunnels. They can be farmed rather reasonabley with most melees at around say..... 45. Not only that but silent oil can be made without ever needing slime oil. The real pain is the massive amount of beehive chips needed to do just 1 synth. It ain't a one to one combo, it's 4 to one. Beehive chips are insanely easy to get, but it's a synthing item that no npc sells, so it's going to be worth a bit.

As for the debate of silent oil necessary for parties. Shrewd individual should always have a stack, but if they have any real knowledge of how to navigate and how agro mobs detect.... you won't need oil nearly that much. I really don't get how so many people get killed cause oil sneak/invis wears. you have an eternity to find a good safe spot to refresh it, don't panic and stop dead in your tracks.

on another note however, I've had sneak up before and it wore without ever getting the red text warning, now that sucks when that happens.

Sneak/invis is the individuals responsibility, I hate magic invis/sneak, it's not reliable. I really don't think it's until you get later in the game that you start viewing it that way.

So no SH = Gimp THF?

well then gimp me up scotty, I don't use one and have always had perfect hate control in parties and I can out tp just about any other job sans RNG and SAM. SH is a luxury item, and considering how expensive THF gear is already something I don't NEED currently to do my job properly. It's an awesome item, would love to have that extra zip on my DE, but it isn't essential to performing my job. I'll have a SH eventually(pretty soon actually), when I can afford one. I have a very busy schedule, if I always waited for the best gear I would never level. Some how in this game people seem to think you either wearing "The best" or are gimp. SE designed alot of different equiptment for a reason

But really Meeze, comments like those are from the mouth of most 1337 elitist that think there shit doesn't stink. I don't know if you meant it in jest or just as a shot at Peregrine, doesn't change the fact that the implication is horse shit. Wish I had chosen DRK somedays so I could get a Hauby for 1/2 the price of a SH and never have to worry about Shihei or bolts.

On a side note, the Jelly in Korr Tunnel have multiple drops. So don't be like the stupid shits I've seen down there with no /Thf for Treasure Hunter.

Get two Slime Oils, beats getting one or none.

Well for some reason the little snot thinks he's worth my opposition ever since I told him to go try the downtown McDonalds when he begged to synth my haku cluster. He's out of his league. Unlike people such as Meeze, I don't have to dish out that much gil to cover up my lack of worth. I got and get the complements he had to and will continue to pay for. Then eventually when I have this overrated item and the last cheapshot at me is gone, the only difference between him and me will be about 60 IQ points and a score of rare/ex gear that blows anything you can buy out of the water anyway. Keep bein a playa Meeze. Work that internet gil like that's all you've got.

I used an oil for a KRT party just the other day without thinking. But the mages were kind enough to sneak me without me even asking at the start. I hadn't seen that for a long time. People don't work together enough in this game. That's what's wrong with always using silent oils. People don't respect others enough in this game. That's what's wrong with never using silent oils. That's pretty much all I have to say. Honestly I used way too many silent oils than I should have to get to 74. You just don't want to run the risk of aggroing a mage, because every time you ask for a sneak you run the risk of pissing off an elitist snot.
