Omgzormg Lets Discuss New Job Possibilities Because Its Only Six Motnths Till Wotg!!1

The main thing I'd take from the story of Adam and Eve is that you shouldn't take it literally. It's a handy piece of mythology for explaining why things are so messed up in the world (although I'm not keen on any story that reinforces the idea that "ignorance is bliss" and punishes someone for the pursuit of knowledge), but that's all it is... mythology.

And with reading up on earlier Religions, isn't it odd the striking similarities between them? It's almost as if it were like.. direct plagerism.. Though any honest christian, would do no such thing, right?

Of COURSE it is!! I mean, the 13 years between the realization of Christ that he was the 'Son of God', what happened? Oh shit, he just kicked it, right? I mean nothing was written, so it must not be important. Let's just get right down to the 'telling everyone their business' code book shit. Its awesome.

Kind of like the whole "dont push the red button" thing. Personally, I can just as easily forget about it after knowing Im not supposed to touch it.

Heh. Douglas Adams comes to mind again. Arthur Dent sees a button with a sign saying "Do not press this button," so he presses it. Then a sign lights up saying "Please do not press this button again."

But everyone knows everything written in the Bible is cold hard fact! Taking a moral from a story, just a moral, is totally the wrong way to interpret!

Eh, but who really has the ability to tell anyone what to really believe? Nothing, not even God has been proven to exist, let alone any creation theories scientists have developed... Ive witnessed twice as many anti-christs shove their beliefs down the throats of church goers than otherwise...

People put their faith in different things, whats wrong with people believing in God?

Ill be honest with you. If someone tells me not to do something with another thing that I know nothing about... Then Im gonna listen to them and thats that.

Kind of like the whole "dont push the red button" thing. Personally, I can just as easily forget about it after knowing Im not supposed to touch it.

Kind of happens anyway, when you do something you arent supposed to be doing.. Who pops up and says "I told you so!"

And yet, were someone to tell you 'DEAR GOD MAN! What ever you do... DO NOT push the red button!' ... you would ask why? Because.. you would be curious? Or are you that dense, to just follow instruction blindly? Not question what people tell you to do?

People that questioned, include a very promient list of people that were very good for the world. Those people include Jesus himself.

Being a person of higher thinking than that of a dog-sled pack (just for you Pas), I am going to question things. I am going to ask why I am unable to do this. Not just nod my head blindly and say 'Oh, okay'. Otherwise, things at that point are open to interpretation.

For instance: God grew sick of human sacrifice. He thought the smell distasteful. Instead, he wanted sacrifice of things of love. No one asked him, they just did it. Eve gave works of hand, Adam of the earth. Their sons, gave of what they loved. First was Abel, he gave of the animals, because he loved them so. Caine, not asking to clarify, denying his curiosity, sacrificed his most loved. Not of the plants he attended to, the wheat he sew to help feed his family. His most prized and loved possession. His brother Abel.

If you do not question, you will be cast out. If you do question...

No, Id definitely question, but if they DO say something like... "Im not telling" Then yeah, Id leave it at that. It would be more dense to not follow directions, even after the refusal of reason not to. There are some things that can be asked, and some things that cannot be asked. Like the whole "Lot's wife" ordeal. But then again, that happened because she was too ignorant anyway, so she served as a reminder.

Some sacrifices are made for the greater good.

Believe whatever the hell you want, but have some justification, some reasoning, put some thought into what you believe. You seem to be one of those "Meh, I think I'll believe in this!" Types. Or one of those "I'm this because my parents were this!"

Examine yourself.
Examine your beliefs.
Examine the "religion."

Use the brain that you've been given. Think about what you're doing, what kind of commitment you're making.

Wow...I never expected a religious derail @_@

Which is exactly what I do. I make my own conclusions on the Bible, and I also know some conclusions are susceptible to being mistaken, so Ill try to come to a more logical conclusion.

I reflect my beliefs, which reflect my religion. I, for one, am not one of those people that say "omg you committed a sin, you goin to hell!" Not at all. I cuss, among other things, much like any normal person. Im not hypocritical about it, I know everyone does it. The difference between me and those hardcore church goers is that I know I make a mistake, and can constantly make them, so I say "oops, sorry."

God doesnt require any person to be perfect. He only requires them to do their best. Kind of like this!

Wikipedia said:
When the sins of the Sodomites and of the neighboring cities had called down the vengeance of God to punish and destroy them, two angels were sent to Sodom to forewarn Lot of the dreadful catastrophe about to happen. The angels took Lot, his wife, and his daughters by hand and drew them forcibly out of their house, saying, "Save yourselves with all haste. Look not behind you. Get as fast as you are able to the mountain, unless you be involved in the calamity of the city." Lot entreated the angels, who consented that he might retire to Zoar, which was one of the five doomed cities. His wife, looking back on Sodom, was turned into a pillar of salt.

Lot left Zoar and retired with his two daughters to a cave in an adjacent mountain. In Gen. 19:30-38, Lot's daughters incorrectly believed they were the only females to have survived the devastation. They assumed it was their responsibility to bear children and enable the continuation of the human race. On two subsequent nights, according to the plan of the older daughter, they got their father drunk enough to have sexual intercourse with them, drunk enough that he is described as being unaware of what was happening. By him each became pregnant. The first son was named Moab (Hebrew, lit., "from the father" [meh-Av]). He was the patriarch of the nation known as Moab. The second son was named Ammon or Ben-Ammi (Hebrew, lit., "from our nation"). He became the patriarch of the nation of Ammon.

Too ignorant!? They didn't tell them a fucking thing! Lot let his wife die. No where, in that, which was taken from Biblical Text. All they said was 'Run, get really far away, so you won't get involved!' So Lot ran. Never once did the angels that visited them to warn them of this desctruction, did they say 'Oh, dont turn around and look you'll turn into a pillar of salt. Your daughters will think they're the only women left, because we're not really telling you anything after you hermitize yourself; there for performing incest.'

So yeah..

lawl, read the damn thing, its taken from the bible, says so on the site, its the main refrence at the bottom of the page, aside from the Torah and Quaran. Have you.. read those? Oh, no? Well, I have.

If you want to keep going, arguing with someone that was studying to be a professor in theological studies, is the way to go baby. This fascinates me, Ruffy dear.

Bring it on, follower. Let me show you what a leader can do.

And I've been staying silent the whooooooole time to let y'all hash it out

<3 me unto despair!

(btw: about Lucifer - he didn't get jealous due to love, he got jealous out of pride, and because he sought to rule himself rather than serve. As such he led rebellion and got booted out of Heaven along with 1/3 of the angels, and now resides in the world).

*pokes morwen back* <3

Your subtle remarks toward superiority dont work this way, 'darling.'

Your subtle remarks toward superiority dont work this way, 'darling.'

Subtle isn't my 'thing'. I'm not trying to hide that I'm superior, I'm just clueing you in since you seem to have an issue here.

Your pack mentality, and this is something that I agree with Shyrra on in an earlier post, is just far too simple.

You examined yourself and your beliefs, you do not push your thoughts or religion on others, thats fantastic. I think there are a lot of people that share your religious opinions that should probably take a page out of that book instead of preaching intollerance to their children. For that one simple thing, I will commend you.

However, not examining your world, the choices of others, and the conflicts between fact and the farse you hold so dearly to your identity; is extremely naive. Learn of others, not just simply believe. People simply believed in (lets go out on a huge limb and well beaten dead horse) the Nazi Party. Everyone was doing it, why the hell not, right? Then they found out... oh dear god.. what have we done... we're supporting the genocide of innocents because of one mans opinion.... They realized how wrong it was, and recanted their loyalty on pain of death. Those are thinkers.

The ones, that just simply let themselves be lead, because it was too scary and dangerous to think for themselves, or imagine a situation without the security of an already set process and cage of rules... lived life with no reward. They hated who they were told to hate (read: christians vs. muslims, christians vs. pagans, hindu vs. muslim, etc), they follow who they were told to follow (shocker: the Pope was in the Nazi Youth League) and agree with what ever they say. They are the smarter ones, they wouldn't be leading a nation/religion/lifestyle/empire, if we were to think for ourselves.

Since we're on the subject >_>

Hypothetical question, since I'm not religious in anyway, and I understand that this biblical story, as Hal said, is a myth:

According to the myth of Eve and the apple, bearing children and bleeding was punishment. So what about animals who also become in heat and bear offspring, even though they didn't eat the apple? I don't really understand.

P.S. If this debate is never going to end, maybe it's best to agree to disagree before we get 20 pages of this derailment

Whats wrong with wikipedia as a source? I use it all the time and I've never found an article that was false, most the shit I look up is taken directly out of books almost, just reworded to all fit properly.

Sure there is probably articles that are wrong or are jokes, but they are probably deleted fairly quickly or simply edited back.

The people in this thread should really, REALLY read this book:

It presents an argument that, since Yaweh "wrote" the bible, he was free to edit history, presenting the conflict between himself and Lucifer in terms of black and white, perfection and betrayal, salvation and damnation; in reality (according to the plot) events were a much murkier shade of gray. It's a fascinating and engaging read, and poses a challenge to faith which is as deep and complex as a Douglas Adams style logical argument.
