I'm leveling nin/war for fun while my static members are out of town. I got through the Dunes unscathed, partly by forming my own party and to a greater extent by luck. Now I arrive in Qufim as lv 19. I see another nin/war and a whm/blm seeking in about the right level range. The rest of the pickings are slim: no other mages, just some melee. I end up with nin/war X2, whm/blm, thf/mnk, and mnk/war x2. I accept my part of the blame for even starting this up....
But for God's sake people, if you accept the invite, stick it out for a real try. In front of D. Tower, the THF pulls one crab before we are ready. We haven't even set a voke order or SC, nor have I put up utsusemi. That's a big issue if you've played NIN/WAR before. I have to throw it up ASAP (which doesn't happen due to the long casting time), and now the 3 shadows are gone long before my recast is up. We get through it with a few bruises, but no real harm done. The parties' response: This is too hard, we need to fight worms by the lake. After one freaking pull.
So we go to the lake... and some of us get killed by Banshee's, of course. They want to camp on the ice in the center. Ok, exactly what I said would happen has happened. We get undead aggro, people die and drop pt. I replace them. We fight worms, people get worm aggro or links and die. They drop and I replace them. The party never has a full 6 people for the next hour or so. I don't blame them for leaving a "shit party". But consider this: I don't die through the whole thing. I don't aggro undead. I don't get worm links. I don't die and I'm fricking tanking. (And, no, they don't die from the mob I'm tanking.) The rank 10 mnk/war doesn't seem to have any trouble avoiding these little pitfalls either. Curious.
Eventually, I hit level 20 and get enough new people to convince them to go to the tower zone to fight crabs. The original whm left long ago, we just have 5 members at this point. NIN/war x2, mnk/war, sam/war and smn/whm. Now comes the amazing part: these people actually stick around and wait for a 6th member. We got a little xp killing time and some VT to even IT crabs while waiting. We finally get a whm, and the smn switched to DD mode (which actually wasn't too bad). Not having a blm really hurt the higher end of the xp chains, but we still managed to get about 6k xp in just over 1.5 hours.
So yeah, people... the party leader started the mess, but if you want him to clean it up you have to give him some time and a little patience.
