Once again IGE out of gil for Quetz

Why must people buy gil? If no one bought gil, then the prices on everything would still be low (1mil used to be steep for huaby) and things would be much easier. I dont understand why people like seeing those high numbers in thier wallets if its not needed. I had to buy a Holy phail the other day and i was pissed, it used to be like 20k now its like 300k. Really people if you want easy gil then just do some Garrisons or start crafting. If i do garrison a few times i can make 1-3 mil a week. Yes thats 1-3mil a week or 300k a run. I do the West ronfuare one. So if everyone has a red cryptex then we can do it like 18 times.meaning i might get anywhere from 300k in drops to 900k in drops. Buying gil is easy but it also screws up the system. And if you hate farming then dont farm. Do quest, craft, do mission, do BCNM or like me i started fishing while im LFP. Cuz after lvl 31 im pretty much always in jeuno when im seeking so i just pay 200gil and go in airship docks and fish. I can usally make 2-8k before i get a party. So plz dont buy gil for the reason that it's against the rules. I wish SE would go online and try to find accounts used by gil sellers an delete them. And take all the gil away from gil buyers.

Someone made the comment that some one must have bought a kraken club... Oroax just got a kraken club (check AH) SO......

IT WAS OROAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nah, most likely not cause he a cool cat. Congrats man on the new club though.

All servers are having issues though cause prices used to be $500 for 100m and now price doubled.

Seems people are doing a good job of inhibiting RMT too, since I would imagine they should have been able to fill their coffers back up by now if tihngs were running as usual.

i still say it is a scam to raise prices... IGE should do this to all servers if they are going to insist on selling the shit

I havent checked AH but what is the date on that? Oroax has had Kraken for awhile. Anyways I was just thinking out loud.

I know his point and I'm rather disgusted by it. This game is supposed to be fun.

I think this pretty much says it all. Gilmaking is a part of the game. It has almost ALWAYS been a part of all FF games. Think about it, in the earlier games, some vendor had some piece of eq you wanted, what did you do? Me personally, I went outside of town and went on a killing spree until I had enough for it.

The only difference here is that there is more than one person making gil in this game, and trading is involved. In the end there are only 2 differences between farming and xping: You are usually solo, and your gil goes up instead of your XP.

Might have been posted but I have a headache and I'm too lazy to read the whole thread so...

As of 24/1/06 ~ 17h:23m IGE.com is officially sold out of gil for Quetzalcoatl.

I thought of something kinda cool though, while posting this, we should have a "gil run", sort of like a little class or something for newbies to learn how to make money. Y'know like, a sponsored QCDN run to the dunes to promote alternative ways of making cash, to picking up your plastic and flashing it at IGE when you're in a fix. Just an idea.

This is simply not true.
Between thousands of players per server every second a large amount of currency is introduced into the game world without any possibility of that currency being physically removed from the game at any reasonable rate. Multiply that with the number of days FFXI has been running, and you get your #1 reason for inflation.

On the subject of gil buying, sure some work 40 hours a week and farm gil in their spare time. Some work more than 40 hours a week and buy gil instead of farming it. Yet others work 40 hours a week, do other stuff, and buy gil for the few hours that they do play per week.

It all comes down to what real world price you put on your time. Some people value their time above what it costs to buy the amount of gil that you could possibly farm in-game during the same time period.

Is this fair to those who's only choice is to farm for gil? Nope, but life isn't fair. I don't dispute that some gil buyers are lazy and inept players, but I do believe that the majority of gil buyers looks at it from a practical perspective.

What a pleasent post to wake up to in the morning. I see you fail to understand basic math in addition to poor reading comphrension.

Saying that gilgrinding is harder than working for real money and buying gil with that real money............IS A FUCKING JOKE! YOU SUCK AT THIS GAME!
Guess what? I didn't say that. Gilgrinding is possibly easier than your job or maybe not, but all I'm concerned about is the time invested.
I farmed 2 knives with my friend in a 5 month period of time. Worth approx 150-200M.

During that time, I made approx $4,000CDN while he made over $6,000CDN. Are you saying, we should buy gil instead of farming for it? Because it is a waste of time? Because it is a waste of real life money that could have been made during that time?
I answered this clearly in my last post. I see I will have to repeat myself once more. I am not telling anyone to go buy gil. I am simply disproving your statement that "Buying gil is a waste of real money". Get gil however you want, I honestly don't care how you do it. However, it is false to say buying gil is a waste of money because if you are concerned about money you could buy the gil you would have got during that time gilgrinding and earned more real money in the same time.
You call it GIL GRINDING

Bwahahhahahahahahahahahahahhaha ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahahahaha

It is only "grinding" gil because you can't make any!!!!!
I call it gil grinding because I would rather not list every way to earn gil everytime I want to refer to that process in general. The grinding part has an additional purpose of pointing out that the process can be tedious like lvling and is not much fun unlike other activities you could do in this game. If standing around camping an nm for 10-20 hours is fun to you, good for you. I suspect you are not in the majority with that view however.

Since you seem so curious about me though. I am content with my current wealth and gear. You are more than welcome to come check me sometime I'm in Jeuno. I usually get compliments on my gear although I would just consider it average for people who have played this long. I don't have a 50million thief knife or overpriced kraken club, nor do I need one.
45 x 24 = 1080

ASSHOLE!
I DON'T WORK 24 HOURS A DAY!
(the numbers at the top were a quote from my earlier math of his claim to have played 1.5months).
In your earlier post you said you worked/slept/ate 3.5 months and played the other 1.5months. Neither you nor I said you did anything 24 hours a day. I am working under the assumption that your 1.5months of gameplay was spread over that 5 month period. Thus, if you played 1.5 months out of 5months, you had an opportunity cost of 1.5 months of time spent working some job. To be more specific, this is hour you calculate your opportunity cost:
1.5 months = 45 days = 1080 hours = $10,800 @ $10 per hour

$10,800 would have bought you way more gil than you got with playing(1billion gil to be exact). However, you could have just worked 75 hours, bought 75mil gil and then had 1005 hours left to do things more fun than camping an nm for 1.5months, and don't pretend there are not more fun things. I'm not telling you to buy gil, just explaining the opportunity cost and how buying gil is not a waste of money.
I made 150-200M during those 5 months.
I made 4,000CDN during approx 3.5 months.
100M = $949.99US

Please, do the math.

You sir, are a joke.
That's nice that you earned 4,000 CDN during that time, but it is totally irrelvent to the discussion. What we are concerned with is how you spent that 1.5months. Check my above math and reconsider who is the 'joke'. You also might consider trying to keep your cool better when someone disagrees with you. Your argument loses much of its strength when you let your emotions flare.

I don't mind people buy gil because of the RL stuff, but I just don't like the teen who brough gil then just spend it all like is nothing, or use it for PL skill up and make whole bunch of item price increase

Here's the deal, when i started playing in November again after taking a break over the summer and first semester of school, I noticed inflation. So what did I do? I went and looked a gil prices on websites...(pretty easy just type FFXI gil and you'll get like a milltion pages). So kinda remembering some of the sites i visited I did the same thing only to find out not only is IGE sold out, but numerous other sites are sold out, and the sites that have gil are like expensive now. I think all the sites cut gil for Christmas shopping...you know how it goes:

"Hey mommy will you celebrate Jesus' birthday by contributing to an illegal ring of fantasy money"
"Sure son, I'll support the obesity of American children anytime."
"Thanks mom, you're the best. Now fix me some chocolate milk bitch!"

After tha scenario plays out, the sites sell out of gil and go back to normal prices.

Haha, the moral of this thread, don't try to argue with Rones, he knows his stuff, and probably has a much higher IQ than the rest of us. If you noticed I got smacked down too from Rones.

Bottom line: Take what Rones says as the truth, don't get pissed and try to get into a pissing contest because you've already lost.

Now when I said there are better things to do with your money I ment it by the fact that getting gil is part of the game (Similar to Alanons responce which I agree to whole-heartedly), and when you play a game like this, no matter how much you work, your cheating by goin outside of the game(and the rules BTW).

^run on sentence sorry:wacko:

Ok I understand your idea about opportunity cost. Yes, you're right. I could make money and buy more gil than I could farm during that time.

However, this is why it pissed me off so much. You are explaining why people would buy gil.

Why not just explain, that levelling a job to 75 is ludacris? Because you could just buy an account?

So that's why I took such hostility about your post.

Your idea upon opportunity cost, is demeaning to this game. You're taking the fun out of this game with that idea. You're taking all the time and fun, just because of opportunity cost.

Opportunity cost = For what reason should people play this game when you could just buy it?

Let's just for a moment assume that the accusation of cheating will result in any answer other than "And that's the way - aha aha - I like it (Casey and the Sunshine Band)".
What does cheating mean in FFXI context?
Is buying an item at the AH cheating?
Clearly you didn't put in the time to farm that item, instead you are paying for it with gil you got somehow else. Is it ok to buy an item at the AH with funds you worked for in-game, but it is not ok to buy an item at the AH with funds you worked for outside of the game? How come? What is the rationale that values in-game effort over real-life effort?

The rules SE created are in place to lower player progess to the minimum acceptable level, thus keeping players paying subscriptions as long as possible. I don't really need to point out that the EULA is not a law, it's a contract if anything. How many of those who oppose gil buyer are routinely driving above the 55mph speed limit?

Why is it ok to violate an actual law, physically endanger real world people and your own life, and at the same time gripe about those who do not follow some other rules (which are not even law)?

I am really just curious about this obvious double standard.

I think that's the point at which one can come back with the argument that people can do what's fun to them. Many of those who have played MMOs before will recognize that getting to the end game is often more fun than being there. In the end, yes, if someone only wants a level 75, and hates leveling, then they are most certainly better off buying it than leveling it themselves. (When it comes to cost vs time)

My idea (is RMT even my idea?) is taking the tedious labor out of the game. Very few, people can correct me on this if they feel otherwise, consider gilgrinding a fun aspect in this game. Even if it is fun, I'm sure there are other parts they would consider much more fun. Buying gil in this case is letting you get through the work faster and more efficiently so you can reach the more fun activites (lvling, quests, exploring, nm fights, etc). This goes against SE's main goal of keeping you playing as long as possible, but is that goal the correct goal?

If gilgrinding is fun for people, good for them. They are fortunate to find that enjoyable and will get along great in ffxi. For those who have very little spare time, gil buying could help them get more fun out of a game they pay to have fun in. I am really optomistic abot EQ2's RMT program. If you want to see RMT with a slightly different spin you should check out Gunbound. They have really modified it and the entire game is funded by RMT. Wouldn't you like to play ffxi for free and have it totally funded by RMT?

Buying gil is cheating.

Yeah, but when I press UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A START to get 30 extra lives and beat Contra, I'm only affecting my game. Buying gil affects others in an arguably negative way, making you a cheating asshole no matter why you do it.

Sorry, I'm not going to argue that point. I already said it was.
Buying gil affects others
Does it affect them any differently than if that money had been circulating normally?

Scenario 1
Player A has 1mill gil.
Player A buys an item for 1mill gil from Player B.
Result: Player A has a new item, player B has 1mill gil.

Scenario 2
Player A has 1mill gil.
Player A buys am item for 1mill gil from Player G.
Player G turns out to be a gilseller.
Player G sells 1mill gil to Player B for $10.
Result: Player A has a new item, Player B has 1mill gil.

Funny, doesn't look like gilselling made a difference. Overly simplified I admit, but the point is shown that the end result is the same amount of items and gil being exchanged. I would even go so far as to point out that gilsellers result in more items being produced (larger supply) by camping nms 24/7 when they might otherwise sit around for some time unkilled if it was left to normal players. Larger supply = lower prices.
