One of FFXI's Last Mysteries

There's a floating flower in Beaucedine too... And in Dynamis - Beaucedine. It's quite amusing. :3 I dunno about the cards though. Strip poker, anyone?

Spelunker's hat and stumbling sandals is all that I have to say about this "mystery."

Spelunker's Hat is in Ranguemont Pass though, I thought. La Theine Plateau is all about the Fungus Hat.

Which, btw, I'd highly recommend Urat get for his fishing hat, as opposed to that ridiculously-long-spawn-time Rain Hat.

Konshtadt Highlands has an area where there are floating flowers.. A friend showed it to me a while back and I marked the area on my map. Since they saw it and I could clearly see it too, its definately there.. Pretty mysterious if you ask me.. (okay, really just a glitch in programming).

I pointed these out to Tristam one day. They crack me up.

La Theine Plateau, Ecks. In all the crevices around the entrances and exits to Ordelle's Caves.

No, actually. I was referring to the Highlands. Maybe there are floating flowers in La Theine too. But they probably aren't the same, since the area I'm referring to is a flat piece of land with grass and flowers. No crevices nearby at all.

Stine showed me this big-ass dragon in the bowels of King Ranperre's Tomb once. It summarily skullf**ked her. Being from Windurst, I have no concept of such a thing, and I guess I'll never understand why there's a dragon down there.

[/sarcasm] :awesome:

Side note: Anyone ever figure out what the use for 1/12 Size Soldiers were for in FF7? >.>

Revive Aeris and get a Sephiroth clone in your party.

Wait, has anyone ever seen the face in the mountians in Konch. Highlands? o.o

I have! Everyones thought I was nuts! "Wtf are you talking about Morwen?" "ITS RIGHT THERE, DONT YOU SEE IT!?"

HA!

Not really. So far, everything in the game besides this and Ixion Horn have some use in the game whether they be obscure quest items or rarely done synths. There are some unused places, but unused items are extremely rare because they add those items with a purpose in mind and not as a placeholder for future things. You cannot do the same thing with areas because you cannot think that far in advance and things can change so you want to be able to have the ability to add to what's already there.

Yes because you're an expert on every project SE has ever done for FFXI right? And just because SE doesn't leave every project they abandon half implemented in the game doesn't mean they can't do that if in the end it won't affect anything.

There are a lot of things left in the dats that haven't been implemented and never will be. Its just as possible SE put the cards into the game and then decided to cancel whatever they wanted to do with them.

Can't believe you guys ignored Jeska. She gave out the answer.

I used to do it when I was a n00b. I'm pretty sure some of you did too.

For those of you going to FanFest I dare you to ask the card question to the dev team and you'll get a similar response.

Or probably something like this...

"We realized that after creating every mob with their many actions and drops (massive amounts of data) that we have hit the "first" PS2 limitation early on so we just left them w/o any purpose. During future updates we just forgot about them." lulz

Actually, the most likely response is "i don't know, lulz." Also, "wut" is another possibilty, especially if Sage Sundi is there.

Quick! Everyone hold your breath for that elusive Vulcan's Ring!

Y'know, back when the elemental rings first came out, I saw a guy standing at the Bastok AH with a Vulcan Ring. Now, I know no one has any reason to believe me on this, nor am I saying that they STILL exist....but for a moment, at least, they were possible.

Actually, it may well have been one of the "media characters" that SE used to (dunno if they still do) let the media (y'know, back when they actually pretended to promote the game) use when reviewing/testing the game within the general population. The only reason I recall it is because of how cool I thought it was; the elemental rings themselves were still pretty rare, so seeing a HQ freaked me out. It was about a year later that I heard that they didn't exist, and figured that for whatever reason, they were removed/excluded from the game.

I mean, if Sage Sundi can have a lvl 81 DRK (you know you want it, TG ), I really wouldn't be surprised if they'd dressed up a character for the media with an unobtainable item.

As for the Card Conundrum, I subscribe to the believe that the non-quest related cards are included just to give a feeling of completion to the "deck", and for fun/trading. Look at most of the event items; only recently (or at least, since the Trick Staff II and Horror Head were first released) do a few of them have any real purpose, other than collecting for fun.

That 81 DRK was from the beta, nothing was finalised....

That Sage Sundi was from the beta, nothing was finalised....

and it still chalks up SE shortcomings to "ps2 limitations".

In seriousness though, the HQ elemental rings would've been pimp, but I can understand why they were removed.

I'm pretty sure that 81 DRK popped up in the beta when I was in it (at least at some point), which was the PS2 NA beta. By the time the PS2 NA beta was available, Japan already had a "finalized" (on sale) version of the game; it was just the standard game, without Rise of the Zilart, which I don't think any NA players ever experienced (without importing). I may be wrong though; I'm unsure if the NA PC version originally released without RotZ.

Just a slight clarification, though, is that I'm suggesting the Vulcan Ring was an item that was indeed "real", just never allowed into the player population for craft/sell/trade, and only used the 81 DRK reference to show that SE is capable of all kinds of crazy shit.
