One of those "No F'ing Way" encounters

Today, like many days, I started a party with a couple of friends in the 53 range. As usual, SE and thier retarded ways of making only 2 jobs with refresh capablities, was making this task a difficult one. After pleading with a JP only RDM and scrounging up two more people, we head off to party. Fast forward 15 minutes later and we're in Kuftal. I notice he/she/it is in RSE and lvl fourty gear, I dont really care I just want the refresh. (Horrible of me to say being a RDM myself but at this point I am so sick of slow exp parties, and having been spoiled rotten the previous night by a great JP RDM which was the first good party in weeks) Start the fight, THF pulls, yada yada yada you all know how it goes. Glance over to see the RDM casting spells like Stone.. Fire.. Thunder.. Not stage II spells, the stage I's. No debuffs going off. Glance up and see no refresh.

So end of first fight and me and the paladin are pretty drained. I ask nicely for Refresh getting ignored. Go to the second fight, still no refresh, keep asking. RDM finally says translated "Huh!? Magic?" >_> Now I'm getting worried. Crab used buffs and everyone is practically begging for dispel and hes still like "Huh!?". Keeps on casting stage I spells, refreshes himself, and just standing there. The fight takes a HORRIBLY long time because the stoneskin buffs keep getting thrown up, PLD runs out of MP, I run out of MP, and all the while he just stands there. Eventually the PLD got really low on health and the RDM says after the crab dies "White Mage where?" We didnt have a WHM because for one none were seeking, and for two we've been partying without a WHM alot lately and find it to be not a problem. Igg is taru PLD and his MP pool is insane (friggin awesome PLD, I go nuke crazy and it still doesnt budge) and he never loses hate so theres never anyone to cure but himself.

ANYWAY since I'm getting off topic, it eventually went that I had to spam the repeated line of "Refresh Please Refresh Please Refresh Please Refresh Please Refresh Please" about 6 or 7 times in a row. He asks "Who?" I say "Refresh Paladin please! Thank you" he replies "huh?! Who?" I say to refresh Iggman and he does it once. Go on to fourth fight maybe fifth now, not refreshing anymore, still not dispelling or debuffing.

So.

I booted him. I wont support gimpage ESPECIALLY that horrible!! He sent me a tell "Huh!?" lol only thing the idiot could say I suppose. I tell him "Red Mage Too Weak Good Bye. Dispel Haste Refresh Blind Paralyze Slow Gravity Where Where Where!? Huh!? Huh?! Huh!?" and then he warped and turned off his pt comment.

What I'm wondering is how this RDM, named Ranunu got to FIFTY. THREE. without knowing how the hell to play the job of RDM! Do people really let certain jobs slack that horribly just because they need them? If thats the case it still doesnt explain this guy, since he doesnt know what to do with refresh at 53 I dont see how he could keep a party lol. Maybe gilseller in training o_o? Though he did use alot of japanese text. So I have no idea.

We did end up using five people (me being the only mage XD) for about an hour and a half till I found another BLM to come out so we had this completely wierd setup of PLD BLM WAR THF MNK BLM and owned everything up to chain 4 and 5 without a RDM ^^ Eat that SE.

Original point: Worst RDM in the -history- of my FFXI career. This was even worse then the RDM that proclaimed Regen restored MP and I was a dumbass XD. Remember the name and be weary of joining a party with Ranunu in it. It'll save you the time and aggrivation. Though may offer a few good laughs at the same time. Maybe I should just say screw it and go NA only >_> Atleast then dumbass's can understand me when I tell them how completely fubar they are.

Ill concur with that, Kari it sounds to me like the night was pretty frustrating, however, it's good you got rid of him when you did, otherwise, you may have some missing hair >.>..
anyhoo, yeah the gilseller Furyrush acts in the same manner in exp, I invited him once as ranger long ago, not knowingly, (this is before I quit) around... oh... 60 or so, and... to my utter horror, he did the exact same thing, casted level I spells, refreshed himself, and to even further my disdain, he went afk for over 30 minutes without moving. He would cast refresh on himself and take no other action whatsoever.
So naturally, i did the same thing you did, I kicked him.
And found out the next day he was in fact a seller.

The dependance on a specific few jobs to have good exp flow has really started to irritate me lately. I know I know its the way it is, if I dont like it boo hoo me. But Kari and I have actually made some oddball parties lately and pulled off some nice exp flow. Don't let lack of refresh get you down!

Stories like this are why I almost never associate with other RDMs unless I know them from these forums or from linkshells I've been in. To their credit though, the shitty RDMs of the world have blessed me with unofficial statics here and there, where someone - usually a PLD - would keep inviting me to party every night for the better part of a week. I'd have to sit through all their RDM horror stories, but I'd pretty much follow a good tank through the deepest, darkest hells of Vana'deil

You answered your own question there, Karihkinz. He was a RDM. It's drilled into peoples head that they magically can't party without one, or a bard. So even the bottom of the barrel ones get to the end of the game.

best thing an rdm can give is dispel. other than that, the other mages should have half a brain and store mp through chain 5.

I don't leave my moghouse without Echo Drops, Silent Oils, or Prism Powders... and I don't leave without the ability to make juices. I'm always happy when I have a good RDM or BRD, but I don't depend on them to be any good.

Jishnu the RDM/SMN isn't that great, either. I can sorta understand /SMN if you want the bigger MP pool, but I don't know why you'd bring out your avatars in the party. The other RDMs I've partied with have been pretty good (<3 Malystryxx), but Jishnu was not.

I always liked WHM NIN then 4 more meleers. With only WHM, as long as the NIN is able to tank well MP shouldn't be a problem (hell with really good NIN tanks the WHM might be considered optional lol).

But yeah...i find that most strange party set-ups work just as long as everyone knows how to do their job...if they do not, and they can't manage a normal set-up that they have experienced for god knows how much xp...then i wouldn't trust then in a new and unfamiliar set-up.

I thankfully have never had this experience...closest that comes to mind is when i had the meleeing rdm in crawlers nest and we kept telling him to refresh and he was saying "i don't have time to fight AND refresh!!! do you want me to just stand back and refresh?!?!" he was quite shocked when we said yes lol.

I usually have more tank trouble than refresh trouble...most rdm seem to be able to manage a refresh cycle at the very least, and i can only think of one bard that hasn't lived up to my expectations in xp so far.

Anyway...i'll add him to my list of people not to xp with.

Trust me I know that lol. Over the last couple weeks we have had -two- rdm's that knew how to do a refresh cycle. The others just threw it out every now and then. But atleast they debuffed. Even if thier gear was so incredibly crappy nothing landed, they atleast had some concept of what they should be doing.

But whoever keeps a RDM in the party that just nukes with level one spells and doesnt dispel/debuff/refresh is just as bad a player as the RDM in my opinion. Makes no sense. Then again if he was a gilseller then he was probably in gilseller parties or something.

And yeah Meeze is right. With MP conserving chains are still possible without a RDM. Main reason I ran out of MP into the second fight was that I let loose a bit more when I think I'm getting refresh, and dont rest between nukes. With the ratio of how fast the mob dies vs how much damage my nukes do per mp usage, and having refresh, I usually stay over 400 and still have alot of mp at chain five. This being main healer too. (Lol not saying much since I only have to cure once at start for first voke) Makes it a -ton- more easier to have a darkstaff. I dont think I could get chain 5 with no juice or staff or refresh pre 51, without totally cutting down on my duties.

But then you have to turn right around and look how other BLMs (we do dual BLM parties alot instead of BLM and WHM) play and I have only met one other BLM that didnt over nuke, and none that dont nuke with a stage II spell -before- SATA. Then they always cast all thier elemental debuffs (burn, rasp, shock, etc etc). Thats a lot of MP gone right there because thats 25 mp a spell 7 or 8 of them? Yeah... So the dependency on RDMs or BRDs really isnt so much on myself its for the party. Seeing chain 5 is starting to make me way too gitty when I finally see it and thats sad. Lol. But partying with Igg and Ele is so worth it ^_^ They do an awesome job. On SC's it amazes me that our THF will SATA end SC onto Ele while Igg has hate and the mob doesnt move, then us BLMs will do nukes for 500+ dmg each, still doesnt budge. Usually its at 50-30 percent so I just nuke away and its smackin Igg the entire time. <3 Taru PLD <3

I only nuked a few times before SATA >_< And mostly because I had thought it went already.... And I didn't think I overnuked... but hey... I do like the trigger >_>

Anyways... sorry to hear about the bad RDM experience. I guess we got lucky having the two awesome RDM's we had for the times I partied with you.
