Decided to make another thread in case my other wouldn't draw new attention from the same people.

Well, as some of you know I recently had some maleware on my PC and decided to just re-format. My Windows XP Professional CD will not boot from disk. I reformatted with KillDisk so I didn't use the XP CD to re-format, as those files can actually be dug up and I wanted a full delete. I've done this before but last time I was able to use KillDisk then insert my XP disk as per the norm to re-install windows and be on my way. I've set my Bios to only boot from my DVD-Rom drive and it works, I was able to use KillDisk, which is a boot disk utility. Anyone know what might be the case and how to fix it? The reason it states for not bein' able to boot with the XP disc is because it lacks system files. I've re-formatted before and never had this issue.

My recommendation:

Whether you do it or not it's up to you. I wouldn't be wasting my time to tell you this if I didn't think it was the best possible option.

If your XP disk has a corrupted boot-sector (I use that term loosely since it's a CD), it means you have to make a new one. If you don't know how, this is how you do it.

I'm not going to type out a tutorial but I'll show you how to find one. Go to google and search for "slipstreaming sp2 to xp cd" or something along those lines and pull up a tutorial involving using a windows cd, a burder and the windows contained extractor. Within the first 2-3 steps you'll see they use Iso Buster to extract a working CD boot file called "Microsoft Corporation.img or something" and it shows you how to burn a new CD with a correct boot image using Nero. Do that and it'll work.

Easier solution : Ask a friend for a working copy of XP.

I hate 3rd party disk partitioners.

Edit:
Here, I saved you some work : http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1626

Page 4ish is where it starts talking about extracting a working boot handler, and yeah it's basically a file.

Good Luck.

The last time I needed to install XP, I needed to use 3 discs to get it done. One wouldn't auto-boot, one would hang on the installation, and then other one finished it off properly. Didn't seem to have anything to do with the quality of the discs either (ie. scratches).

I've had that problem frequently with mass distributions of the OS. Kind of funny but it works well lol.

I'll give that all a try when I can. Thanks for the input.
