only the poor bitch about prices

Yup, that's my story and I am sticking to it.

Those who have money don't complain about the prices, they just pay them and move on, and please, don't mention gil buyers yet again, there are plenty of people in this and other MMOs who have shitloads of cash without to have ever bought a signle dollar worth or currency from IGE and like.

Those who accumulate wealth in an MMO just have more business acumen. In layman's terms one could say; Poor players are too stupid (or too lazy) to make money.

Of course, the rich can only be rich if there are poor players (or people in real life). However, unlike real life, it's incredibly easy to accumulate insane amounts of currency in an MMO, any MMO really.

The original Sculli had over 500k in April of 2004, while never leveling above 12 or whatever it was. Sculli 2.0 made around 500k in just about 10 days in November 2005, while not leveling above 8.

In neither case I actually tired to get rich, I was just trying to get a little cash to buy some stuff that was not top of the line, if I had put in more effort I would have gotten much more out of it. I should create an "Gil Making 101: Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow" e-book and sell it for like 20 bucks.

It is true that running a successful moneky making operation does require effort, which directly translates into time, and some just don't have the time for it. When one needs to make a choice between character advancement, and currency stockpiling, many pick advancement. Not suire why that is, to me it's obvious that advancement will be faster and better with ample currency at hand.

So yeah, what kind of player are you if you have been playing this game for years, yet failed to amass huge amounts of currency?

It's easy to get rich in FFXI... do BCNM, get a few mil, buy an expensive item when prices are low, sell for a few more mil, repeat.

But now that I have millions, I whore myself to only the finest bus station skanks.

i have several plans of gil making and never have to worry about gil, between farming and crafting in certain areas on certain days, its smooth like butter to make gil.
and i have not once complained about the inflation. its just part of the game.

I did BCNMs with friends for a long time when I was like level 40-50. We would all gather BSeals and KS's and gather enough to do the BCNM over and over again and sell the drops like Eulore said. It's a simple process, though I will admit there are times where the drops are horrible or we just plain whip on the fight. Though my BCNM buddies have long since quit I just get by with selling old crap I dont need and maybe some of you have experienced this: Friends giving you all their stuff, some of which u could never use but it sells like REALLY high. To this day I go from poor to broke. I dont have a method on money making aside from crafting on my mule. Alchemy and Fishing ftw

I have a small chunk of spare change, but that's not gonna stop me from saying that it's purely pathetic that Teleport scrolls have reached the 500k's range (especially Mea..), considering how easy they are. I mean hell, camp your Windurst MH on a mule and get Cornettes your buddy (or a diff character) sends from Bastok. Do this until you've attained 50, might take a whopping 10 minutes. Congratulations, you can now flag Teleport-Mea.

Now goto Jeuno..tons of mules do it, you can too. Scout the basement for the ??? on a L20+ job with sneak oils or the spell, or simply go there on a L70 character, neither will agro. Find the ???. Log back on mule (uif you charswapped to scout), goto the zone with the ???, pop an oil (or kill the mobs on alt character, anyone L60+ can do this pretty easily). Check ???. Deathwarp. Trade to NPC for a letter. Get a Tele-Mea or Holla if you have the crystal, if not grab the Mhaura boat, run to Sandy from there. Bam, 500k+ Scroll.

Even if you're solo and wind up accidentally dying or something, this will take like...2 hours. The fact that the scroll hit that price and people continue to pay just shows there's just as many lazy rich people (if not more) than lazy, poor people.

It depends on what people do with their gil. Some consider themselves rich because they always have X amount of gil on them. Others might consider themselves rich because they have X gear worth Y amount of gil. Conversely, some people consider themselves poor because others have more gil or better gear. Others spend their gil on consumables constantly and the gil they had is permanently gone. Some just don't have the amount of time to play a game as much as others and will never have as much as the rest. You can't compare people in a game, it's not possible. I may have spent more or less time than another person, I might have spent more gil but have less to show for it. It is all relative.

You want to exclude RMT but that is a huge part of why people are so discontent with the current prices. Early December a SH was 8mil, now it's somewhere around 15mil slightly below its peaked price at 16mil(yes, that's correct, double the price from a month earlier). That price isn't out of the ordinary with everything else either. From someone who quit the game before Christmas, you fail to grasp why some people are angry. Alot of those people who are upset are the ones who actually farm for a living and worked to make gil.

Let's make an example. I am a farmer who has thief leveled and kills Goobbues for Tree Cuttings in Zi'Tah. I make a decent gil/hour and I have no aspirations for more. Each day I farm 2 stacks of Tree Cuttings in hopes of buying myself a SH. I sell the cuttings at the end of the day and by the next day I have recieved the proceeds from those sales. Now here is the thing, my assets are all in the form of gil at the end of the day and do not increase in value. While the cuttings do increase in value from sale to sale, a gil is still a gil. Inflation may effect the value of gil, but not how much gil you do have. Meanwhile the SH I wanted to buy is steadily increasing in price because people who have no form of value buy the harness with out any thought of it's value. In otherwords, I may make a little bit more on each individual sale, but my assets do not increase as rapidly as a SH. Now normally people can live with an increase in price, but in the past month the prices have near double and tripled on certain items to the extent that a majority of people are dissatsified. Inflation is one thing, but the price surges we have seen are another.

To add insult to injury, your peers who have done nothing to earn their armor suddenly appear after Christmas break with all the elite gear you had been working so hard to obtain. You, who spent the time and effort, are further behind someone who spend none whatsoever. It's like leech at work or school getting the promotion or better grades than you. You may have done more and been more deserving, but in the end you lose out. It's simply put, a slap in the face.

In real life, however, I can do something about it. At work, I can rate my coworker's performance poorly and at school, I can refuse to aid those leeches, but what are my choices for a game that I chose to play for my enjoyment? Oh that's right, tell a GM who will tell me "We are looking into it" while nothing is really done. I could quit and play another MMORPG, but what good does that do me? Different game, same problems.

Btw, were you dissatisfied with the price of gas hitting $3.50 this summer? Nah, you couldn't have been. Only the poor were complaining about that...

I teleport people.

It seems like good money to me. And everybody needs teleports.

Ill stop talking about gil buyers when I stop seeing people with underlvled subs and more then 3 items on them worth over 10 mil gil...

I think the point is the topic is old and overdone, level 50 characters with 30 million in gear and suchlike can make as little sense as it wants to, it's just irrelevant to the topic.

I agree with you sculli to an extent, i feel that it is the willingness of ALL persons with money to pay the extra 100k or 2M over the current price to have it NOW that has caused all the problems.
I could wait for the bastard to have the Vclaw at 18 mil returned to him or I could buy it NOW and raise the price by 2m.. if everyone had a few days of patience in them price jacking wouldn't really happen...

I get dared to eat whole Tunnel Worms for 1000 Gil a piece.

...business has been slow recently.

Actually, the only thing this proves is that some people value their time at above 250k gil per hour. They make a choice to pay 500k and not spend 2 hours farming for the scroll. This is a difficult concept to understand for people who have a lot of time and nothing else to do with it than farming for a certain item.

Those for whom real-life time is a premium, and who have enough economic sense to generate gil, who quite possibly generate more than 500k in just 15 minutes of work, happily pay 500k for something they would otherwise have to spend 2 hours of real-life time on.

Lavi, I am not quoting the rest of your post, but you contradict yourself. First you state that one can not compare two players, then you continue to compare someone's gear to someone elses gear. Which is it? I know it's convinient to say it's all relative and then proceed to state that those who farm their gear get the shaft over those who buy their gear, but it just doesn't work that way. If you have a position, you need to stick to it, and not change it as you see fit.

My claim is that the poor are too stupid to make cash in the game.
This is true regardless of how much play time people have. If someone who understands the market logs in for 15 minutes a day 6 days a week, and then plays for 6 hours on the 7th day, that person can easily have orders of magnitude more cash than someone who plays 70 hours a week.

The amount of currency one has is not a function of play time. Relics are a function of play time, gil is not.

As far as gas hitting $3.50, I was happy, my car does 32mpg (average), and I was laughing at those who own those big V10 SUVs which suck through two gallons just cranking. $3.50 a gallon didn't affect me much, I could afford it, and my car doesn't use much gas, so yeah I was actually satisfied with it because those prices stuck it to the people who drive oversized vehicles for no other reason than to compensate for small dick size.

On a more personal level, I maintain that those who buy gil earn their gear as well. DISCLAIMER: This does not apply to those who have no real life jobs and get gil gifted from someone, via real money, or somehow else.

The guy who makes $20/hour in real life, earns that money, in a capitalist system someone decided that this guys work and knowledge is worth more than $20/hours. The employee earns that money through real-life achievement. Then the employee takes a small fraction of his or her disposable income and buys virtual currency with it.

Saying that those who buy gil didn't earn their gear is like saying those who buy steak didn't earn to eat it. They should instead raise their own cows, butcher them, and then be able to enjoy a good 12oz New York Strip.

I don't want to spill the beans too much on how i continue to spend, but i'd like to add to this post so i'll talk about a few key factors.

Situation: Meaning the reason as to why i spend. That would be crafting materals. I am currently Lv 83 Bonecraft and i'm working with Wyvern scales and Coral fragments. Coral fragments sell for 200,000 G per stack (i once bought a stack in Windurst for 300,000 G) which makes me 6 synths in the current recipe. Wyvern scales have jumped to 400,000 G, and like the coral fragments, 2 scales are required per synth. The day before i spent 1 million gil for a .4 skill up. one session gave me .1, and 2nd session i got .3 skill up. The materals will not sell at a profitable rate. It's a really a large loss.

Solution: Desynth & forget all losses. I take the time needed and also invest a cirtian amount of gil into making lower level armor that typically sells quickly. I only sell the HQ, and desynth the NQ. The armor i sell can easily be HQ'd at my current level and it only takes 1 HQ to break even with the money i put into every 12 synth.

Time is money/pricing: Before putting the goods up for sale it is always wise to look up two key factors.
1) Check the current peice history.
2) See how many of the goods are in stock.

After awhile you get to know how the price fluxuations occure. There will be the odd time when the price will dramatically drop, either while your items are still up, or before hand. It's best to try to hit mid range, meaning not to sell for too little, and not to sell for too much. Its always better to put them up for less cause it makes for a steady and more acceeleranted income rather waiting for everyone else who sold for cheaper to be out of the way. The is to be just below the the competition price wise.
So sell more items at a lower price = More C.R.E.A.M. in shorter time.

At one point i would have thought i'm rich. I make 200,000 and change Gil a day at the least. On a good day which dosn't come as much as i'd like, i would make 500k to 600k from 17 sales within 24 hours. On the odd occation i buy or farm shall shells to HQ them into Black pearls and sell off the stack. But it takes a little too much time to make 1 stack so i collect them slowly. 1 HQ2 is needed to profit per stack. For me todays defination of rich is when one can afford to obtain anything they want that crosses their path.

I also recieve rather large HNM payouts on a decient level and i supose that is where inflation gives a little back to me. From the time i see the item drop, i would push my crafting hard enough to break even with what i'm about to recieve/have recieved.

I would like to add, the true way to make gil is to work for it. Fishing, crafting, mining, hunting, gardening etc..... are the true jobs of the game. Not being a type of class for parties that consumes gil.

In all honestly i think if they changed the name terms of Jobs to crafts and crafts to jobs, then maybe more people would do something to make gil. That on the other hand might not be a god idea cause more people would realize the game isn't that fun most of the time.

well Sculli there anouther reason yes most the people that complain also most the poeple that complain are the one needing the equipment. People that are siting basking saying stop whining are the ones that have everything that are sitting at the 10% of ffxi population. The ones that are doing the complaining are the ones that need the nobles. That need the harby, the ones that need sh. Not everyone sticks one job or two not everyone had the time two play to have gotten up to 75 as fast as other or have the mass amount of time to farm and exp. It easy to point finger if you are standing from the outside looking in, try coming inside the fence and see if you point fingers.:rtfm:

You know elitism is what hitler believed in.Removing the unfit from the society....

I don't think the amount of gil in your pocket has anything to do with bitchin about prices.

I never bitch about prices, I'm comfortable with my next piece of gear costing 10mil (Iquria Weskit)

I have had over 1 million in gil 1 time the entire time I've been playing this game. If I need something, I borrow/trade/farm it. If people were a bit more trustworthy, they might be able to find friends willing to share their riches with them.

I'm not sayin I leech off other people all the time, but I do depend on my link mates to help me when need be. A friend of mine and link time link member, Geffas let me borrow his leaping boots to level warrior. I had em for about 2 weeks and returned them promptly. What did he get out of it? 4 stacks of Shi-hei. That's all. It's what I had left over after my war was 38.

Darklion, another longtime friend and linkmate, has my pentinents rope. What do I have of his? Nothing. Am I concerned? not in the least.

As far as equipment goes, find a good link, make some real friends and learn how to share.

Now consumables and crafting... Fuck you. If ya can't farm it, you don't need it. I got about 25 craft levels in the past 2 days and made 900k doing it. I'm about to break a million again for the 2nd time in my life. From what? Crafting for 2 days. Pre level 30 on all crafts at that.

I don't know why people bitch so much, but it ain't because they are poor. Maybe it's pure laziness.

I garuntee tho, if you ask the people bitching wether the glass is half empty or half full...

"OMG IT'S BROKE AND LEAKING!!! IMMA HAVE TO CLEAN UP THE MESS!!!"

Cry babies. Go play wow or Eve online or EQ or Ashrons Call. I hear it's real easy to make money in those games.

i'm poor and i dont bitch.
and no..i'm not to stupid to earn gil,
i just dont give a shit....its a video game.
