only the poor bitch about prices

I haven't and won't bitch about prices (out loud anyways!) because I think some things are still in flux. Scorpion harness is at 14mil and still falling (keep going ya bastard!) after capping out at 18mil for example.

I think when a product doubles in price it is ok to have a little "sticker shock" about it. If you aren't packing that much gil its worse yes.

One thing I think you are stupid about Sculli however is comparing an INACTIVE character's cash flow to and ACTIVE character's cash flow. Of course a level 10 character can bring in hundreds of thousands of gil (I did this when I restarted Mistaya from scratch.) Leveling on fire crystal and wind crystal mobs, silk, etc. If you know where to go you can make 250k just leveling to 15, if not more.

But that character has no expenses. An active character has much more cost of upkeep. Sushi prices are 50k+, mithkabobs are 15k, not to mention ninja tools and any other consumable (oils and powders are stupid expensive now.) These are NOT optional expenses. And this does not even count the expenses related to events such as rank missions, Promyvion BCNM and ENM, questing and quest items, gear and scrolls which cannot be resold (I keep many pieces permanently such as my lvl 30 and 40 cap gear for BCNM, so these items are bought and never resold.)

So if the lvl 40 character pulls in 100k he really just paid for 2 days food? Gear costs play a factor as well. If you are pushing a job through the grinder (valkurm->quifm->khazm) you go through 3-5 gear sets, in as little as a week! The LQ gear is not terribly expensive but look at the nice items like the baron set. 200k+ each piece! and thats only lvl 20. As you go higher, large ticket items which make leveling much easier and are pretty much required like jujitsu gi. I dont even include the time spent camping empy, lizzy, and other ra/ex drops. Time spent camping ra/ex is time NOT spent gaining cashflow. So please consider an active character has many drains on his pocket and must maintain a positive cashflow while trying to save for a truly big-ticket item such as the harness or hauby.

Now I am not saying the active character is unable to take days and devote them to farming (remaining inactive while his money supply replenishes) but it is not stupidity that causes poorness in many cases, although impatience probably does :P Also, the character's circumstances have to be examined, such as his highest level, his linkshell mates (say what you want making money is much easier for 2 than 1.) and many other things.

Technically it would be much easier for a low level inactive character to make gill than the high level active character. All money made by the inactive is a gain, while the active must constantly outgain his cost of living. Certain levels can be terribly hard on the active character as well. Summoners especially get hit by the austere/elemental stave set at 50.

Really you cant blame someone for complaining about an item priced double and some jerk buying it, therefore setting every other one sold as double what it could of been. I am still kicking myself for not grabbing the jaguar mantle at 300k, its a mil now oh well, i thought it was gonna go down more, not up. Am I incredibly poor for not dumping a mil on 3 attack power? Or maybe I don't value 3 attack power as a mil? >_> Or maybe I wish my cost-of-leveling multiple jobs has cut my gil-gain to the point where I would need significant time to make that mil for that mantle and I dont value the time spent worth 3 attack power? I guess all true.

Oh and anyone paying a mil for 3 attack power is a moron btw. Had to throw that in there. ITS 3 ATTACK POWER JEEZE. Oh look my raging fist did 2 more damage!!!! -_-;

I benifit from the raised prices when I sell fire crstals for 9k a stack this afternoon, so i dont complain when the mithkabobs are 15k, but dont call me stupid for not having 10 mil on me at all times, 10k is still valuable to me, because I am actively leveling to regain many things my chacter had before it was deleted, therefore my expenses are high and my income is low. Please don't call me stupid for pursuing a gameplay style which is not the same as yours.

i agree... all the poor people who can't afford shit whine about prices... a few days ago a few people were shouting about prices in lower jeuno...told them to stop whining...i examine two of them... 64drk w/o snipers and hauby...66thf w/o SH and snipers too.

Say you get paid $13 an hour. It takes you 2 hours to farm a million gil. You can work for an hour IRL and get enough money to pay for a million gil. Net gain: 1 hour of your life. Now multiply that by 2, 3, maybe even 4. That's why people buy gil.

Now, I don't have any non-r/ex gear thats "uber", but I don't bitch about prices. I can't afford a SH and I want one but I don't threaten to quit because the prices are "too high" why? Because it would take me the same amount of time farming as it would've a year ago. Don't store your gil in gil form, buy gear with it and sell it when you're ready to buy your item.

I will have you know there is nothing shameful in making gil through "creative" means....that being said....Any Mithra out there who wouldn't mind working in front of a camera with a few dozen Tarutaru for an hour or two?

P.S. Please let me know ahead of time which you prefer, lime or orange flavoured gelatin =)

I whole-heartedly agree with Sculli. Nothing pisses me off more then people that complain about how poor they are dont put any effort into actually making money. People use the inflation as an excuse to not buy certain equipment. Its bullshit. As I look at the main way I make money when I am actually trying to make gill I can make 250k-300k an hr on avg. I used to only make 100k avg. So basically I can triple my normal money making scheme JUST by having inflation. I am by no means rich compared to many. And this inflation has doubled my net worth and made me tons of gil.

Lavi, I am not quoting the rest of your post, but you contradict yourself. First you state that one can not compare two players, then you continue to compare someone's gear to someone elses gear. Which is it? I know it's convinient to say it's all relative and then proceed to state that those who farm their gear get the shaft over those who buy their gear, but it just doesn't work that way. If you have a position, you need to stick to it, and not change it as you see fit.

My claim is that the poor are too stupid to make cash in the game.
This is true regardless of how much play time people have. If someone who understands the market logs in for 15 minutes a day 6 days a week, and then plays for 6 hours on the 7th day, that person can easily have orders of magnitude more cash than someone who plays 70 hours a week.

The amount of currency one has is not a function of play time. Relics are a function of play time, gil is not.

As far as gas hitting $3.50, I was happy, my car does 32mpg (average), and I was laughing at those who own those big V10 SUVs which suck through two gallons just cranking. $3.50 a gallon didn't affect me much, I could afford it, and my car doesn't use much gas, so yeah I was actually satisfied with it because those prices stuck it to the people who drive oversized vehicles for no other reason than to compensate for small dick size.

On a more personal level, I maintain that those who buy gil earn their gear as well. DISCLAIMER: This does not apply to those who have no real life jobs and get gil gifted from someone, via real money, or somehow else.

The guy who makes $20/hour in real life, earns that money, in a capitalist system someone decided that this guys work and knowledge is worth more than $20/hours. The employee earns that money through real-life achievement. Then the employee takes a small fraction of his or her disposable income and buys virtual currency with it.

Saying that those who buy gil didn't earn their gear is like saying those who buy steak didn't earn to eat it. They should instead raise their own cows, butcher them, and then be able to enjoy a good 12oz New York Strip.

Firstly, I did not contradict myself. You cannot compare wealth when the value of people's items vary, the amount of time play varies, the consumables one uses varies, among many other differences. I might have a Dalmatica which is either considered priceless since it is the one of the best end-game armors for a mage or worthless since I can never resell it. I compared one armor after that. One armor is one armor. Whether a noob in valkurm dunes owns it or the elite player who has been around since JP release with a plethura of 75 jobs, that armor is still the same price. You cannot compare people because they will spend the gil in various different forms but you can compare single pieces of equipment because no matter what, if they are the same item, they will have the same value.

Again with your support to the RMT. I do hate them so very much. This is a game and it should be played on the merits of one's own actions. When I play, much like everyone else, I play to escape reality and enjoy a little fantasy, but when you start including real life into, it ruins it. That's what the RMT does. My financial history should not influence how I play this game and nor should anyone else's. Now that it does, I have to compete against people who literally throws money at the game for their enjoyment? So now in order for me to fully enjoy online games I have to spend more money to equall more enjoyment? That is why SE made RMT illegal in their ToS, they did not want a game where someone's real life standing determines how their game is played. A poor person doesn't come into this game expecting to not enjoy it because they are poor. When people begin the game they should all play as equals and they are not.

I don't walk around Jeuno wearing all my armor at once, I even walk around in my Opaline sometimes. Does that mean I am going to an experience party in it? No. And don't mistake someone's wealth with their gear. It is totally different. I have a pair of sniper's, but no SH. Am I by any means poor? No. I have had more than enough gil to buy a SH, but I see no reason to if the price is nearly double what it once was. Personally, I do find it annoying you now consider SH and Sniper's now a mandatory equipment choice. How many SH do you actually believe there are and how many people have them? Certainly not enough to supply everyone's demand. Then why is an item that not everyone should or could have a required item for you?

I am by no means poor, I just don't understand why anyone should consider paying double the price of an item in less than a month. You can consider it wrong when someone complains about the prices, but in reality this wouldn't be an issue of SE inforced their rules. If prices had not jumped double and triple in some cases, people would not be so dissatisfied and you can be certain those Christmas gil sales are to blaim.

If the in-game economy wasn't ready to support double the *old* price of the SH, then it wouldn't. The price increases because the economy AS A WHOLE is ready to pay the increased price for it.

See and that is where you are wrong. You don't have to spend more money than your subscription fees to enjoy the game. You don't have to participate in the economy. You want to buy something off of the AH, but there is nothing that forces you to do so (other than perhaps peer pressure).

This is where I say that you do contradict yourself, because you effectivly do compare yourself to other players, which you previously states one should not do.

The whole premise of MMOs is that not all players are equal. That is what keeps the bottom 90% playing, that they want to eventually become the top 10%. Years later the majority of the 90% realizes that they won't ever make it, and they quit the game.

Yup, that's my story and I am sticking to it.

Those who have money don't complain about the prices, they just pay them and move on, and please, don't mention gil buyers yet again, there are plenty of people in this and other MMOs who have shitloads of cash without to have ever bought a signle dollar worth or currency from IGE and like.

Those who accumulate wealth in an MMO just have more business acumen. In layman's terms one could say; Poor players are too stupid (or too lazy) to make money.

Of course, the rich can only be rich if there are poor players (or people in real life). However, unlike real life, it's incredibly easy to accumulate insane amounts of currency in an MMO, any MMO really.

The original Sculli had over 500k in April of 2004, while never leveling above 12 or whatever it was. Sculli 2.0 made around 500k in just about 10 days in November 2005, while not leveling above 8.

In neither case I actually tired to get rich, I was just trying to get a little cash to buy some stuff that was not top of the line, if I had put in more effort I would have gotten much more out of it. I should create an "Gil Making 101: Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow" e-book and sell it for like 20 bucks.

It is true that running a successful moneky making operation does require effort, which directly translates into time, and some just don't have the time for it. When one needs to make a choice between character advancement, and currency stockpiling, many pick advancement. Not suire why that is, to me it's obvious that advancement will be faster and better with ample currency at hand.

So yeah, what kind of player are you if you have been playing this game for years, yet failed to amass huge amounts of currency?

I am poor, and I don't bitch :p

If I need something I will farm until I have enough for it, then get it, then the cycle starts over.

He's not saying being poor implies bitching, he's saying bitching implies being poor.

Well, it was 500k pre-inflation...god knows what it is now. Also, I don't think everyone has access to some means off 250k+ an hour anyhow..otherwsie things'd cost considerably more than they do right now, at least in my opinion.

but yet agian if you rich you have nothing to bitch about because money has no value to you. Rising prices is a good thing but no good can come out of prices almost doubleing in a month. I think the price will go down now that people have spent the xmas gil. The bigger problem i hate is the fact that so many are so lazy and just buy everything yet not providing items causing much demand and little surplus. The drop rates of v claws and other item are rare so high prices are reasonable but if there was more supplyers then buyer the prices would drop. Was in windy yesterday and in ah there was 121 spider webs for sell and the price was much lower then the previous week. Prices are going go with demand and people going buy high this help some hurts other but so does when i millionare buys a baseball team and moves it to anouther city, It help the city it moving to but hurts the city where it was. Meaning the crafter need to make money and if you think about it he really not making that much he buying a 14 mil v claw and making it into a 16mil harness. If he fail he lost 14 mil if he makes he made about 1 mil profit after ah taxes and other cost. So in all honesty dont acuse the crafters accuse the hundred of people that has just given up in farming, the one that keep raiseing the demand but keep the supply low. It a flaw in the game not in the people so bitching wont solve anything. Though you call it biching <which some threads it is> others are tring to brink light to what seem to be a darken subject.:rtfm:

Very well said.

I gotta admit, I bitch about prices all the time, but I still sell the items in hopes the prices go back up.

You said it yourself, it's a flaw in the game. Pointing it out at every possible occasion won't solve anything. As a player you have essentially three choices:
#1 Pay.
#2 Bitch.
#3 Quit.

Choices 1 and 3 will make you a happier person than 2 could ever be.

It's easy to get rich in FFXI... do BCNM, get a few mil, buy an expensive item when prices are low, sell for a few more mil, repeat.

Thats not "rich", thats "well off". To get "rich" you basically need to have some kind of craft lvled or have some freakish NM luck, or both :O
