Outflux Of People Lately?

Server transfer is bad enough.

Hell no.

what he said lol, get merged with the bot or rmt servers?

once again Fuck that Shit

Mentionable 1: College Exam time is ratcheting up -- check.
Mentionable 2: It is spring time -- check.
Mentionable 3: FFXI really hasn't changed for a very long time -- check.

That is about where it stands I think. The only thing I think I would still enjoy is dynamis, I just need the time to play.

Old MMO, not much new content to keep the devoted populous going, etc. Happens in ever game, although for some reason, not Diablo II. >_>. That user base has been going at about the same pace for a very long time now. Not to say I enjoy it anymore, but I still know a large amount of people who love it to this day.
Well diablos II not the only one that still runs today must mmo don't die completely just shink until they become 2-3 severs. Everquest is another one that has ran a long time. Hell I still be playing it if it was not for the navy.

like many others i stay for my friends. i too think SE has made the game a bits to easy. the road to 75 was WoW'd with ToAU's introduction. now we have far to many 75 for a server as small as ours.
Would not class it as the same as wow that be a insult wow we more easier then ffxi is to lvl even today.

I have taken multiple breaks and this last one I'm on is pretty much permanent. Out of sheer idiocy I thought that WoTG would add some new things to the game, but in my opinion it didn't (then again I left shortly after the release before the updates). The game just got really old to the point that I felt lobotomized after a few minutes of being logged on.
They trying a new game plan to release thing slower because people said that taou was to fast, and they didn't like all the maintenance. Make up your mind, do you want it slow or fast buggy or extremely buggy. As for new content, campaign and campaign op pretty new content. Hell I'm enjoying the wait gives me time to get caught up on some leveling and other content.

WOtG has been far to slow to get started and has become boring very quickly. Campaign is nice but it needs some substantial tweaking. Other than Campaign WOtG does not offer much to keep people interested and the game fresh.
tweaking? Would you like them to hand you the exp? Campaign is fine as it is.

It just seem there alot more people quiting, but the numbers go up and down as always and I bet half of people that quit will be back. This game going on 5 years old. Half the people that playing now are concentrating on the final years of collage or have new jobs and ffxi has to go to the back burner. While yes some might be the content may be redundant, Yet so is any mmo. Wow is no different see people quiting that game all the time to come back to ffxi. No ffxi is not dying it just peoples lives are changing. Hell even I not been able play as much as I use to.

heh hellstorm its fair to say that the poster may not have been referring to exp when he said tweaking ^^

In fact, I'm positive that's not what he's referring to.

what you guys think about server merging?

I say almost nothing would make me leave FFXI... that prolly would be one big annoyance to me and make me wana quit. We have out own asshats and GS already don't want another server's Asshats and GS to deal with as well ;)

The problem is there is no longer a influx of new players not necessarly the loss of old players. There are pleanty of people in endgame hell i think there are just as many people at fafnir as ever. The problem is just that people are getting tied into doin the same fights over and over. No one has the time around endgame crap to level lowbie jobs and because of that everyone is kinda getting burned out on the lack of new experiences.

Also there is something to be said for coming down after achieving your goals. I know several people who have quit within weeks of achieving a long term goal just because they cant find a reason to play any more. Hell one friend quit 2 days after getting a black belt.

On top of that the exam crunch is evident... hence me writing this from campus while waiting on some group members to show up.

I dont think it can be "fixed" but sooner or later the people who are gonna be like the Diablo2 crowd and stay forever or bounce backs will plateau off and there will be a set number of people.

I would previously would have thought that FFXI's problem was its obvious stagnent nature. I was gone from the game for roughly 2 years. I came back to find that the gear that was "good" gear when I left, was STILL good gear. Its like the game hadn't progressed at all. Sure, some new gear had been introduced, but it wasn't monumental by any means at all. FFXI's player base has however remained pretty consistent. The numbers arent really down, not all that significant at least.
Now, lets take a lesson from WoW. Lets say you've got a lvl 60 toon, all decked out in 'epic' gear. The best of the best. WoW released an expansion upping the lvl cap to 70. All the sudden, your PIMP lvl 60 gear is mediocre compared to the average lvl 62 gear, not to mention how obserdly pathetic compared to the new 'epic' lvl 70 gear.
Since the release of WoW's expansion, their numbers have dropped DRAMATICALLY.

Who knows, maybe SE sorta half-way knows what they're doing.

One thing I do have to say is completely retarded of them however, is that they dont actually release expansions as expansions. They release something for you to buy......but you dont actually get what you paid for until a year or more after the fact. That is completely retarded and needs to change...if they ever make another expansion.

I've decided my problem isn't with FFXI specifically, but with MMO's in general. Its pretty much impossible to walk away saying that i "beat" that game. End game is and forever will be disgustingly monotonous and with out true 'end'. I'll keep playing FFXI for now cause of the RL friends i have that also play, but i doubt i'll ever really get into another. (unless by some miracle they make an MMO based in the world of FF7, i'd be all over that, haha)

:slightly off topic, isn't SE's new MMO gonna be based in the world of FF12? wow that game sucked. leave it up to SE to take a shity solo game that felt like an MMO and acted like an MMO, make it work as an MMO and sell it:
sorry for being all long-winded, peace.

I quit back when it was still the cool thing to do.

THIS.

I know what he talking about. How they don't say exactly when the battle is beginning and ending. Which is how it suppose to be. campaign is fine the way it is, and im sure they will add more to it in upcoming update.

oh and this is a story driven mmo if they release it all at one time you would beat it in a week. Then what wait 9 months till next mmo. They have to do it in small drawn out steps, don't like ity then you pick the wrong mmo, and the wrong franchise do remember this is final fantasy not your every day quest base mmo. Story is everything.

When FFXI was released, it was all about insane challenge and teamwork. Every MMO needs something to stand out from the crowd. WoW hit big by being the casual gamers' MMO. FFXI was already aged and entrenched in its ways when WoW came out. It was too late to try and be anything but FFXI. SE shouldn't have tried to make FFXI something it was never designed to be. Challenge was the only thing that set FFXI apart from the crowd. SE should be making it harder to get things done, because the people that play FFXI don't want anything quick and easy. We've grown up on days long LFP, NMs with ridiculous pop intervals and even more ridiculous item drop rates. We've taken all the BS SE can throw at us and we've enjoyed it. They should stick to their guns. WoW is WoW. FFXI is FFXI. FFXI is just as good as WoW when it remains FFXI, but it loses a lot trying to be WoW. You figure, the challenge kept the hardcore playing. Nerfing it let them finish their goals faster. The game wasn't nerfed enough to make it casual friendly, so it's not pulling in new people. We need more bottlenecks and restrictions, not fun.

plus SE doesnt advertise enough. has anyone seen a FFXI commercial?

Not sure about this everquest and vangaurd never advertised either and everquest was top of it game for many years. All through word of mouth. Though they could use more gaming magazine time.

I remember EverQuest ads. Not TV spots, print ads. Never heard of Vanguard, though.

FFXI totally needs a Ministry of Propaganda. Wouldn't even be difficult. Throw up a couple shots of mithra fighting in RSE and the servers will be lousy with 16-year-old furries. ;)
