ok, so I almost got grounded AGAIN! >.> Why do parents think they have to control even your free time? I came from working with my dad yesterday, no Walgreens so I decided to go outside. I didnt even take my dads truck so he would not bitch about what time to come home with it. So I get home at 2am, and >.> they get mad. Why?? My dad FORCES me to go to work with him everyday, AND when I get hime like at 3:30ish, I have to go to Walgreens at 4pm to 11pm. I have no fucking life during the week. So why do they have to mess with my free time? If I want to come home at 4am, then let me. I will still go to work >.> Some parents just need to lay off their kids some. Im 18 almost 19 and they still treat me like a little kid >.> Why do parents want to control everything about their kids?? >.>

Sorry, but their house, their rules. I'm almost 17, but I've built up trust with my parents, if I'm going to be home late, I let them know beforehand. But it's not very responsible to be out late if you know you have a busy schedule the next day. You might be able to pull it off now, but I'm sure you won't as you get older.

Like I said, you still live under their roof, so until you live on your own, they make the rules of the house.

Do you get paid to go to work with your dad? Idk dude, I never had a curfew and I never got grounded.

lmao... as long as you live under their roof... you're theirs.

If you aren't paying them rent or partial utilities and food bills, or work around the house for them(vaccuum, mop, dust, dishes, whatever,) while not in college, you atleast owe them respect in any rules they lay down, if they're inclined to lay some down.

how about if the child.. I dunno.. does chores? cleans the house? fixes their computer? does shit like that? washes their own dishes and even their parents? I think that entitles the child to not obey all rules of the house. Certain rules (Like the basic law and not destroying other people's stuff) but all.. no. For, without those acts which the child has done.. they would have to waste their time and money to get them done. Time to clean things up or fix them.. or money to have someone else do it.

Also: If your dad is paying you money when you work with him, it does not count toward you having to not listen to any rules they give you, since you're being compensated for the work you're doing already.

And did you also tell them you were going to come home late? You're still their child, even if you think you're an "adult." They worry if their son is missing without notice.

You'll never truley understand how lucky you are to have caring parents. That is very very sad. Once you gain the concept of life and realize it's not about you or what you want to do you'll be better off. Show some respect. Think about everything they have done for you throughout your life then rethink your situation. You really should be ashamed for even thinking like this but you proaby will never understand even if you have children of your own.

I dunno Strid.. I always go by saying "I'm gonna make this happen and it'll be my way". Now.. of coarse I know at times I'll have to bend things on my side but as long as I try and make the end result work out to my favor, on mostly my terms, with me winning (or in some cases.. someone I care about when I want a good thing to happen for them). I feel that you need to be agressive and make things go your way as best you can or you'll never succeed in life. With anyone.. you have to try and make them understand or do your best to make things happen the way you want it. It helps though when you have morals and common decency though so you aren't just manipulating others for selfish gain. I just want certain things.. at the most I want a comfortable house with a good paying job that keeps me happy and someone I love to spend my days with. As of now atleast.. and so I agressively seek jobs, look for a place I'm comfortable in, and continue to learn as much as I can so I can find an even better job. But, I dunno.. that's me x.x

I pay to live at home, lol, thus I am "Lodger" and get more freedom.

I always thought it was a bad idea for parents to try and have complete control over their kids lives...i mean my parents used to but after i hit about 14-15 they stopped bothering. If i do not do my homework or w/e and fuck up then its my problem and i can't blame them. Now while that sounds kinda harsh, surely its better messing up when you are young and it doesn't matter so much as when you are going to college and spend all night drinking or w/e and have to drop out because you are not used to the lack of control?

Of course my parents still ask me to revise and insist i do chores etc...but without some measure of freedom i think that when i have complete freedom i would waste it.

Just my 2 cents.

Oh yeah...btw their house their rules :P

See I do that, and my parents could care less. But then again my parents don't really bother with any of our lives(I have 2 older sisters and an older brother), aside from the "If you get drunk take a cab home speech." By the time I was in grade 7, I was going to rock concerts and comming home at all hours, even had a Tea Party Concert the night before a final, I got like 90% on it.. lol..

I guess it has to do with the parents and your relationship with your parents.

Quoted for truth. I'm 17 and my mom owns me. I don't mind too much, even though it irritates me at times. She doesn't do it to grief me, but because she knows what's best for me. Parents may seem annoying, but they do these things out of care for you.

*(Heh, we joke around alot and I told my mom that; when I go to college, I am going to call her at 3:00 AM on a Saturday morning to talk about how my day was and current events. She said she looks forward to it.)

I get grounded for bad grades... Her house her rules, SHE is the one paying the electrical and cable bills, the car bills, the food bills, the gas bills, taxes, clothing, etc.

It's not JUST money.. if you help out around the house.. a lot.. like clean for them.... fix their stuff.. you earn your keep, in my opinion. Cause you are saving them that time and, in some cases, money when you do such. Money isn't exactly where it ends with who has more "power" in the house.. or else a lot of married couples I know are doing things wrong :D

Well, I know ive been a total asshole to them sometimes ; ; Just now before I logged on, I yelled at my mom for not letting me borrow the truck to go to a concert Sunday, even after my dad said ok. My dad does pay me for going with him, but its still against my will. I ddint tell them what time I would come home cause I didnt know. I am a total asshole sometimes, but I just, I dont know, I just cant take it when they punish me or give me a order for no reason at all. My mom said no to me taking the truck to the UIC Pavilion to go see My Chemical Romance on Sunday for NO reason at all. >.>

i cant play weekdays now cuz of school cuz i cant make "A-B" honor role .... i think imma go shoot muh dad. jk <.< but yeah it sucks

Now with cellphones, and hell even payphones, you don't have an excuse not to tell your parents when you'll be home. You could have even said "I'm not sure what time I'll be home, probably late, don't wait up for me." Or something like that so they don't worry. But being an asshole doesn't help. Sure, I bitched a lot to my parents, but they knew that I wouldn't go back on my word about where I was going or what I was doing. If plans changed, simple phone call when I got the chance.

You have to be a little better if you want to get the same respect from your parents. You can't expect them to let you do everything, because once again, you live with THEM, it's not your house, not your rules.

Even George Bush can't ground me and i'm like same age as u are.Chpal you woman!
