Partying ...why don't people do it in this game?

I've been partying with my linkshell all the time, doing everythign from leves to beatign shit up. We've been killing orange/red mobs gettign 600-800 exp and 500 skill every kill with no downtime what-so-ever, as I've found a secret spot with no competition :p

There's also a lot of other benefits of doing things in a party. Exchanging Leves from another city more than doubles the gil reward of Leves, so you can do 4 Leves from one city for everyone, then teleport to another one and do 4 more there. You may ask why this is any different from doing it solo, and I'll tell you the reason.

If you're in a group and someone teleports you to another city (which costs 6 Anima), you'll get the option to teleport with them. However, you don't lose any Anima following someone else - which means only one person spends Anima. If you're 6 people in a group (which also increases the Leve reward as you can do more difficult Leves), this equals out to 2 Anima per person over the course of 6 days doing Leves (counting two teleports per run and having a different person teleporting each time), which is A LOT less than you'd spend doing it solo (12 Anima every 2 days, or A LOT of time wasted if you choose to run between cities).

And for those sayign it doesn't matter in a bet atest - you're right. SE doesn't want our input, and as such, I'm using the beta test as a way to plan out the most effective way of earning gil, building various classes and leveling, as those are unlikely to change drastically between open beta and retail.

This sounds juicy. I've partied with my friend and I was getting more exp then him so he was pissed and we called it quits. Is exp still bugged with party chat or is it perfect right now? We've just been soloing atm.

Well I know me and Justin were getting odd exp. One time I'd get loads more skill ups than him, then sometimes he'd get more. Not quite sure how it works, however they just need to make it split 50/50 if anything.

Unlike popular belief, skill gain is not static. A mob doesn't give you, say, 500 skill when it dies, which is then split among the people in the party. Every action you do has a chance of giving you skill ups, and the total you gained during the fight is shown once the mob dies. If your friend always get less skill points than you, he's either extremely unlucky, higher level than you, or lazy and don't perform as many actions during the fight as you are - and as such lazier. And no, the the Stamina cost doesn't matter. Actions with larger Stamina Cost seem to give more skill points when they do give skill.

One thing though - outside of Leves, skill points are capped. I could never get past 500-520 skill points when I lvled. I surely hope this cap increases the higher in level you get. Only 500 skill per kill is going to absolutely suck when you need a few mil to level up.

So then could one say leveling in XIV and getting skill points is like besieged in FFXI where the more you do, the more skill points you get?

So does cures count as skill points at the end of the battle? Because it's not directly effecting the mob. If not, mages are gonna be pissed.

Cures count as they are a thaumaturgy based action, hence they will give you thaumaturgy skillup allowing your healer to skill. I tried equipping the sacrifice skill on my gladiator and in that case you can use it but will not receive any skillup since your skill at the time will be sword. At least this is how it looked from my testing.

This is not the case at all. Even if you set Cure from Conjurer to Gladiator, you will get skill ups. However, you do NOT get skill ups from curing yourself (which is why you don't get Skill Ups from Cure as Gladiator when you cure yourself). You do, however, get skill ups from curing others.

Yes. And if you do more damage, your attack-based skills will give you more skill ups.

Oh I see. I have only soloed so far that is why I was under that false impression. I asked for party several times and people prefer playing solo. Shame cause I really wanted to try some party mechanics like battle regimen and hate.

I am getting loads of skill points from curing my party on my CNJ and THR. Between that and spirit darts I think I gain the most skill points out of my party members :) I also love that aoe versions of the spells cost the same number of mp!

I'm not doing something right then. My THM only gets good points when I solo or maybe when I duo/trio with someone. If I'm just curing I don't get anything :(

I mix it up. On my THR I always cast Stoneskin ---> Sacrafice ---> Poison ---> Dart ----> Cure ---> Dart ----> Dart and repeat which ever spells needed :)

I duo'd with Shome last night, first we killed some rats, then we found some puk hatchling and managed to duo those wth him at GLA 2 and me at THM 6. The exp was decent, but it seems like you get more exp solo and faster at those lvls. Finally, we did try duoing a Dodo bird but it killed us lol. I have a feeling most of this game will be better to solo through.

I managed to enter a LS with some former Quetz players and finally tried some leaves in party. I must say tanking with the lag we have now is quite challenging... Combat is too chaotic and since you always end up fighting clusters of mobs it gets even worse. Maybe when the lag will get better the experience will improve, I hope so.

As far as the solo exp is concerned, my gladiator is rank 16 now and I gets harder and harder to exp. I have the feeling it will be like in XI where the early levels are better solo while eventually you will need to solo to get decent exp. Mobs that can be killed solo give very low exp and trying stronger mobs implies having to rest after killing each mob to recover hp. Leave quests will allow for more solo play probably but I ma sure partying will be very important here too.
