More and more players are being hacked everyday and then go to their local forum to whine about it. I'm not here to flame anyone or anything. But rather just post a few tips to help prevent hacking.

1) If you care about your saved data and what work you have accomplished, then i suggest changing your password every month or every other. The longer you leave your password the same, the longer you allow someone to hack your account...

2) the smaller the password is, the smaller the encryption for your password is. If your using a "lmao 5 characters" long password then your below a 64 bit code encryption, and most hackers are using 128 bit encryption devices.

3) Use Caps, Lower case, and Numbers randomly placed in your password. this helps stop Keygens and other such devices to gain access to your account slower.

4) Do NOT save your password or write it down within your computer... this even goes with "save your password?" like PoL does. anything that asks for saving a password, simply cookies your password and opens it when needed. Spy ware, Ad ware and even viruses, look at your cookies and can send them to anyone. Stating how long your password on a forum site or any site is begging to be hacked.

i'm tired of always hearing that people get hacked or hear friends who get hacked because most people are too damn lazy to protect yourself. Always fun playing inside a bubble until someone comes to burst it.

P.S.

People who get hacked, I just don't blame the hacker, I blame you for not protecting yourself.

We wouldn't be so bitter if SE actually did something to help.

Saving your password is safer then keep typing your password everytime imo. The reason i'm saying this is that there is key logger program out there, they know what you typing. If you type your password everytime to login to pol, they sure to know it. and secondly, hacked FFXI account usually came from a source of a program that directly want your password. no random hacker out there want your ffxi if they can steal something more valuable like credit card info, SSN. All hacked ffxi had to related to you use 3rd party software like hacking cheats program with little bugs in them, or anything to enhance your FFXI experience.

This is true, longer password are better then short one.
Is best to have password something like this B1va5o0cO
and you don't need to memorized this kind of password. if you tiny personal safe box, or anything that you hide away from parents or friend just put it there.

Like what i'm refering above :P, don't use something like "Bookworm" as password lol

ya.. never write down on your computer, write down in paper and place it somewhere only you know and need it when you needed it. i still think saving your password is safer

Most people got hacked because you let your ingame friend trusted your account and you let them have password and ID and used program that link with ffxi in them

This reminds me of the arguement I had with a GM, the conversation went somethign like this:

Me: What if the user didn't share any password and had his system hacked?
GM: I find that unlikely, and if that's the case it's the user's fault for getting hacked.
Me: Well no, lots of computers with good security are hacked for various reasons every day...
Me: I mean people could upload a Key logger on your rig and you wouldn't know it til it's too late.
GM: We suggest you change your password frequently to prevent that.
Me: You're kidding me... You're telling me to change my password if I suspect I have a keylogger?
GM: Yes. To ensure you have good security you should switch your password frequently.

Go Go SE!

I got the screenshots somewhere, it was completely baffled by his shear stupidity and asked to speak to the Senior GM at this point. He said there was non on staff. I resubmitted a GM call and got Luminus, a senor GM on the next call...

I agree in some cases, but in others its the clients responsibility to stay safe. SE or any large company can only do so much. Now... if SE got hacked and all private files were made public because of the hacker, then place blame on them.

I agree with what vandy said about keyloggers, but saving them to the system is no better, if someone wants your account theyre gonna get it. the thing is to just keep yourself safe as possible.
