I see what you are saying. Part of the problem is that written communication just can't really relay what one's intentions are, lots of room for miscommunication. Part of the problem is that I tend to not praise those who help this site enough in public, that' something I have been working on somewhat, but clearly not enough.Cubswoo said:Because you weren't asking me. It felt like you were saying "Do all the work, catch me at the right time and if I'm available I might listen and occasionally comment." It felt like you want me to do all the work for you, and in that case I'd very much like to feel that said work will be rewarded, or at the very least appreciated.
Let me try this again, anyone's suggestions, including your's, will be taken seriously, and considered as soon as they come up, not just with a glance, but with discussion following up on whether something is feasible to implement and if so how that implementation should go forward. I am here on a daily basis unless some work related travel comes up which will be just a few days here and there. I will do whatever I possibly can to make things work and give those who are serious about making QCDN a better place all the support they need. I am here to share the workload.
My writing "PM me, or post it publically, or lead the roundtable" was meant as a "yes, I would love to hear what you have to say, you have my undivided attention", the roundtable part was meant to say that I trust you to be able to lead such a thing, and do it objectivly even if your personal views differ from those brought forward. People get easily offended when others take their ideas and run with them, I tried to avoid that. I didn't mean to imply that you ought to do all the work and call me when you are done.
I agree and I will do that as soon as I figure out how to deal with the mass amounts of email complaints I will be getting from people who will come up with all kinds of explanations as to why they did what they did. Of course I can point them to the rules, but some sort of notice that the rules will indeed be enforced will likely be helpful. I will install the mass PM mod later on tonight and send out a PM to every user that things are about to change.Cubswoo said:1) Enforce the rules strictly or don't enforce them at all
Yup, that's something that came out of the "what's wrong with the standards" thread too. Since then I have been posting to the particular threads in which the issue occured as to what was wrong and what happened. Will create a forum for that, no problem.Cubswoo said:2) Make available an area where people can see why so-and-so was punished
I did look into that, but didn't come up with a workable way to limit the time period. The default vBulletin has the option to allow mods to ban (yes / no), and of couse bans can be temporary, but there is no default way to restrict mods from banning people indefinitely. I think for this to work a system would need to be worked out that governs under which circumstances mods can temporarily ban someone, and for how long, and what sort of record-keeping needs to be done to make it all "legit".Cubswoo said:3) Give mods limited power to probate for short periods of time to ease burden
Rules are a major issue, and one that I have no good way to address. There are those who complain that the current rules are too vague. They are vague to allow for corrective action in case someone does something that is not specifically in the rules. There is no way to foresee every possible scenario, and people who are problem users tend to take the stance that "it wasn't in the rules that I couldn't do that, so it's ok for me to do it".Cubswoo said:4) Be transparent when it comes to rules and rule modifications and allow flexibility for the unknown
The rules are linked from the front page, I am not sure how much more obvious I can make them. I am sure there will be frequent modifications in the near future. I can imagine to send out a mass PM when the rules change, but I definitely do not want to send out an email to every user.
I can make a new post to the rules thread, that way it will be highlighted as "not read", rather than me just editing the original rules posts, which doesn't result in a highlight.
The debate forum was in the original plan after the old FB got removed and was axed because the notion was that debates should go into the forums they belong to, meaning synthing +1 at 98+6 vs 100+6 or whatever should go into the crafting forum. However, I am not opposed to a debate forum, neither I am opposed to passionate posts in the existing forums.Cubswoo said:Debate forum. Place for all of that stuff to go with fairly heavy moderation on the stuff you don't like while still allowing people to be passionate without being insulting.
As explained above, I do want to notify people of the fact that they will actually get in trouble. I know I shouldn't have to, but still. There needs to be a point in time at which this actual enforcment starts, otherwise, how far back should I go, and who's to say that looking at this thread is alright, while looking at the very same stuff that was posted elsewere on QCDN yesterday is not.Cubswoo said:Forgot to mention this - the fact that no punishment was meted out to anyone as of yet was shocking and yet not shocking at the same time.
Yup, it was. There was nothing but on user telling those who are not happy to go away, and a bunch of other users calling the one who did the telling out. It went on for three pages. You didn't miss a thing as it was all self contained pertaining to the "go away" part. PM me if you want a copy of it, but keep it out of this thread._Neosquall_ said:Was it really necessary for you to delete all the posts that we wrote in the past 15minutes?
I don't think I tried to hide that fact, I am proud of it.Sneakypants said:As you said, Sculli, you greatly changed. YOU changed.
This is something so transparent that you didn't actually need to admit it.
Speak for yourself, and perhaps for those who hang with you, but don't automatically include everyone just because there are a number of users who are not happy with the way things are.Sneakypants said:Will people be receptive to your methods in the future? No.
The change here at QCDN was sudden and drastic, no doubt about that. It could have been handled better, but it is done, and dwelling on how it happened will not accomplish anything. While it is nice to state the obvious over and over, it does tend to sound like a broken record after a while.
If you have any interest in improving QCDN, then you are welcome to share your thoughts on how things should be done (excluding bringing the old FB back), and just as I told CubsWoo, I will put as much effort into making it happen as I possibly can if those suggestions are reasonable and workable.
