Persona 4

Awesome, awesome game. Pretty much everything in Persona 3 has been improved upon. The only complaint is there's still no "re-roll" feature when trying to fuse personas; you have to exit out of the fusion result screen and reselect the last persona you're going to fuse with for a chance to carry over different abilities.

The social links are more indepth, and offer more as you level them up. By level 3 with your party members, they will take a hit for you that can kill the main character(main character dying = game over); by I think it's level 5, they will occasionally do an extra hit when you knock an enemy down. Chie's extra hit just knocks a mob(not the one knocked down!) out of the fight entirely.

The card mini game at the end of fights has changed, there is no more swords, cups, clubs or coins cards. Now, you can choose between persona cards, "blank" cards which look like broken glass, and cards with big red X's on them that void all exp/items/yen earned during the fight. Sometimes though, you get a second part of the mini game, where one of the arcana cards is revealed and spun(this is optional, btw). If the arcana cards lands right side up, then something happens(generally good), if it lands right side down, then something else happens(generally bad).

Great to hear, looking forward to being able to play this.

Persona 4! Last great PS2 RPG?

I'm suprised this isn't on the 1st page, anyone else picked this up last week. I didn't have much time to play it till this Sunday when I sat down and must have put 8 hours into it. It's been very enjoyable, it definitely ranks up there with Persona 3. Somethings have improved, others seem like I had wished they kept the same. The story moves at a better pace than Persona 3's though, and I'm actually liking the new characters, they act more like high school students than the previous games characters.

If anyone has got it, right now I just reached Kanji's Dungeon, and got wiped on his "other" self. I barely visit the TV world, I mainly level Social links and fuse to increase my Persona's levels.

If anyone has considered buying it, it's a great investment, think it was $39.99, comes with a bonus soundtrack, and it has plenty of replay value, can't see someone getting all the Social links maxed in one playthrough unless they read a guide, but where's the fun in that?

Actually, it is, just in the general gaming section, for some weird reason. Can a mod move the other thread to the Sony section?

http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showthread.php?t=55648

It was in General Gaming because I created it earlier in the year and it was too far back in the boards I guess when mods created the specific company/console forums and didn't get moved to Playstation gaming.
I'll PM a mod to move it.

Any news on when it'll be released in EU?

My PS2 isn't chipped, so I can't import it =/

Sometime in Spring 2009.

Got my copy a few days ago and been playing it, not too far but definitely an improvement over P3, need to
Spoiler:
rescue Yukiko from the castle after I finish doing some more social links

having a blast in it as we speak ... atm iam farming the the rain shadows that only show up on rainy days

Spoiler:
i just beat the strip club ... now iam in the some video game world .. lol

I just beat the video game world, have 40+ hours, I'm in Mid-August.

Some things in case people haven't gotten that far.

The improved Personas for your team mates manifest when you Max their Social Links, it's not like Persona 3 where it happens after a certain date. I already have Yukiko's, and should Max Kanji and Chie soon.

There's 2 Social Links atleast from working part-time, one from being a babysitter and one from working at the hospital. I haven't done tutoring yet, so I don't know if there's one from that. The rest of the Social Links are fairly obvious (school, family, the fox, Magaret, etc.)

Filling the Persona Compedium gives you a discount for every 20% of completion I think. I got my first 10% discount when it reached 20%, and now at 38%, I'm assuming I get another 10% off at 40%.

Dayner already mentioned farming rare monsters at rainy days, you can also go to Aiya to try the Rainy Day challenge, it requires 4 of your personal stats to be maxed to win, but for 3000 yen when you fail you get a increase to 3 stats, pretty useful if you don't want to go into the TV that day.

The Arcana chance cards are very random, I stopped using them all together. I've had skills changed randomly with no confirmation, have Personas being replaced, been warped out of a dungeon with little health and full SP, etc. It's too random for my tastes, most of the benefits don't seem to be worth the penalities.

Amazing game, I'm really liking this cast more then Persona 3's group. Hell, even Teddie's not that annoying, which I thought I was gonna hate from the start. My team's currently yukiko, chie, & kanji. Still need the last member, thinking we get them early September.

Slight not-really-spoilers:

Spoiler:
Make sure to max out Justice, Hierophant, and your party's S.Links before December because they're locked after that.
It stops raining after then, too.
Tutoring gives you the Tower S.Link.
Janitorial work gives you Devil S.Link and opens up the Death S.Link.

I love this game.
My main party's been Yosuke, Chie and Yukiko all the way through.
I just beat it the other day, but I'm gonna reload an older save to complete as much of the compendium as I can for New Game+.
The True Ending path is easy to miss, in my opinion, so keep an eye out once everything's "done".

Also, Dojima's a total DILF.
edit// And by Dojima, I meant Ryotaro and not Nanako. >_>

btw i like kanji voice when i do all-out attack "MAAAYYYH" !
always put me in good mood XD

Going to an old dungeon and trying for the upright Judgement or inverted Death arcana was my strategy for getting through a dungeon in a day until I got Hermit S.Link up to a decent level.

Okay, I'm confused. I'm In Magatsu Inaba on the 6th floor and I don't know how to get the next floor open.

Ya, I figured it out this morning after redoing the whole dungeon a few times. Kept forgetting that door existed. Meh, over lvling and lots o cash is never a bad thing.

Thousand Curses almost put me into tears....
