pet peeve

Allow me to clarify what I meant by that last statement. I actually was referring to places such as zone lines(and yes, there are exceptions even to that one) and other such places that I, as someone who's walked the entirety of the world as a 42 Whm and the winner of several nekkid mule races, know to be safe for recasts.

Since I'm so frequently the person sneaking others as Bst/Whm on coffer hunts, ZM Runs, etc., the lack of consideration on the part of mages gets under my skin, especially when we're talking about situations where we all know where we're going, and a mage standing 5 virtual feet from me sneaks and invises themself then runs off without giving a moment's thought to anyone else.

In the past 6 months, I think I could count on one hand the number of times someone's extended this courtsey to me without having been asked first.

Courteous yes, to be expected no.

See though, Blaze? That's entirely my point. No one has to ask me for this courtesy when the roles are reversed. It irks me when others need to be reminded to be courteous.

I really didn't mean to make a federal case outta this. Though, on the other hand, I didn't think I'd get anyone refuting the point that if one must be made to extend a courtesy(i.e., asked), then that person isn't being courteous or thoughtful of others.

I remember one time some people I know in game wanted to set up an Ohat run ,it took @ 2 weeks for everyone to get their eyes set up alliance etc.
Finally the day of the run came and i went to help, off to the Den of Rancor.
I don't have a map of the area and most didn't only a couple people did. Now everyone was told bring oils and powders ... and for the alliance to STICK CLOSELY TOGETHER in case there was aggro and so nobody gets lost of course a few didn't bring oils or powders >< sooooo.... between mages casting sneak, invisible on them or the people that forgot items and sometimes the mages catching aggro because the were not being dicks about casting sneak and invisible it took like 40 Min's to get to spot for nm. Quite a few deaths happened wasted time fighting mobs that got aggro etc. I had brought 3 stacks of each with me shared some with people that ran out and people that forgot items i left the den with only 2 oils and 2 powders. If everyone was prepared we would have not had so many problems getting to the nm I feel that it is not the mages job to sneak and invisible me. I am grateful for the times they do but it is my responsibility to be prepared. As for cost most times when i am looking for group I farm cuttings , silk ,beeswax this is how i make my Gil for basic needs.Instead of waiting in town for invite I use that time <most of the time> to farm a bit over time it adds up to enough Gil to keep a basic kit of meds and food on you there is no excuse unless you are a newbie not to have these basic items in your inventory at all times just my 2 cents .. also powders and oils seem to last longer then the spells most times so it safer to use too

Oh, that's definitely a pet peeve of mine too. One tactic I've found effective is to designate a leader - one person for everyone to target and move when they move. It's everyone else's responsibility to follow that leader and notify them with a simple "s", "i", or [/recast] chat immediately on the first "wearing" message. That way, regardless of how much it might seem to slow down progress, we're all moving as one group.

Ideally, everyone knows where they're going in such circumstances, but as that's so seldom the case, I've found this to be a pretty reliable way to navigate a big group through an aggrotastic area.

Reauland not busting your chops here my apologies in advance. The point i was trying to make is that people need to be prepared no /recast just a "wait" use oil and or powder. If it is a sight aggro mob why should the mage risk aggro losing his invisible just to cast on a person who forgot and or is to cheap to use meds. Please note i can forgive the person who on occasion ran out of powders and oils and in the rush to get to camp forgot to buy them I have been guilty of this on rare occasions. but some people are just to dependent on mages for a very simple but important part of this game

No, no, don't misunderstand. That [/recast] I'm talking about was simply to let the "leader" know that someone in the party/alliance needed to recast something and would thus be frantically looking for a decent spot to stop and use the oil/powder they better have with em :P

It stops the group from gradually getting strung out over half the zone from people stopping at various times to sneak themselves while everyone else keeps running.

AHHH understood lol

I will give an initial sneak and invis at the beginnning of the zone almost all the time, but just because a few people do it doesn't mean you should expect that same courteousy from everyone all the time.

Point well taken.

(Though to anyone who's reading this:

If you're not the type of considerate mage that practically everyone posting in this thread is, if you're not the type of person who ever extends such courtesy without having to be begged to do so, I guarantee you there's a melee out there somewhere that thinks you're just a bit of a thoughtless ass.)

You party as BST/WHM? o.o"
I digress...I've personally never saw getting sneaks/invis at the zone as all that rare...though guess if you're in that 50s range when the noobs condense again it may be sortof common to see mages, well, not care for their party.

Nah not so much partying as Bst/Whm as it is soloing coffers and sneaking AF-seekers around to them. Same kinda deal with LS-related stuff like ZM Headstones and the O-hat run I see coming in our near future.

But yah, a lot of this really is coming from people in the 50's range now.

lol, having NOT read all the posts, I'll put in my 2 gil worth:

My kit is as follows:

12x Poison Potion
12x Echo Drops
12x Silent Oils
12x Prism Powders
4x Yagudo Drinks
Mp/Hmp/whatever food of choice - sufficient to get me through 3 hours, plus reuse in case I die once.

All the best,
Fire

That's a really good kit Fire. I carry all of the same items except for the Poison Pots(I'm usually the one sleeping shit lol).

The one complaint I hear is, "but it takes up so much space". That statement is probably the one that pisses me off the most.

Not enough space is pure and total BS. For my job I carry 9 weapons, 2 ammo(1 P. Tathlum, 1 stack of pebbles), 2 head pieces, 2 neck pieces, 5 earrings, 4 body pieces, 1 hands, 3 rings, 1 back, 2 belts, 1 legs, and 1 boots. That's 33 pieces of gear alone(just over half my inventory) plus you add in 8-12 items for my kit(extra yag bombs). I still have about 15 slots open. Now I don't understand how people can even go out to party if they don't even have enough room for 2 spots of meds, the drops aren't that good. Ninja would probably be the only job I would somewhat understand if they had storage problems, but not really.

IMO,

I have enough trouble with inventory, leveling 2 jobs actively and a few others on the side lol.
