Pirates 3! (Spoilers, says I)

I am with Realia, I did not find this movie that great.

I was rather enjoying the movie (besides little bumps that were rather bland) until the ending fight scene. I found the transferance from Davy Jones to Will rather craptastic, and was pretty aggrivated by the lack of closure between Calypso and Davy. I left the theater feeling rather jyped I suppose. I dont like storylines that are great and then lack the approriate climax/closure. I liked the movie because I -love- the characters. Beyond that, I think many people will love the third one only becuase it is (poor) closure to a great trilogy.

I saw it for free because I won tickets to the first day showing. Needless to say, I'm happy I didn't pay 12 dollars a ticket to see it. And this is all coming from a person who absolutely adored the first two, so it was that much more of a bummer.

I didn't think it was OMG best movie of the summer either. I thought Chow Yun-Fat was wasted, and that his part could have been played by anyone.

When the movie ended most people in the theatre were kinda just looking around not knowing what to make of it.

I like movies with good plots, and I know its a movie about pirates, but there is a point where double crossing, and double dealing gets to be too much.

And I also didn't like how they brought Calypso and Davy Jones romance to a climax near the end, and left it hanging out there.

Exactly, Exactly, Exactly, aaannnddd EXACTLY. Especially about Calypso and Davy. There was so much double crossing at some points your left wondering what exactly is going on. I almost found some points completely out of character for all the people involved, without solid basis.

I don't feel they left out closure for Calypso and Davy, Davy is dead in the end. Hard to have an intimate closure scene when he's no longer alive. She was too pissed at everyone to have any scene before he was killed.

And I feel that was a cop out. You dont go for tons of years as a god trapped as a human and an undead sea captain, both betrayed and wanting to be back together, only to go "meh, fuck it" at the end. Especially with the secret of her imprisonment the fault of her true love coming to her knowledge right before she was released.

I found it the most violent and humorous of the trilogy. As far as best movie of the summer? Is there really anything to compete with it?

I also didn;t like how they got all the pirate lords together, and after Swann gave the speech they're all cheering, and raising their colors getting ready for a glorious last stand for freedom against the armada on the other side.

Then only 2 ships fight?

The armada retreats, and the all the pirates who apparantly were just watching everything start to celebrate. Whould we all not have liked to see the pirates against the armada in a last stand, THEN the flying dutchman is defeated turning the tide, and the pirates forcing the retreat.

The worst thing that can happen in a movie is it get to the end well, and then have it fall apart like this did for me.

EDIT: Well I guess the lead ship of the armada being defeated, and then retreating, but same point lol.

It was good and all, but like Kari said, where the hell was the whole Calypso thing? The way they introduced her and set her up, it was gonna be some big story thing. Then she was released and she kinda...left?

I can't say I was completely happy, but it was an entertaining movie overall. Waiting to see how Harry Potter turns out, so this might not be my fav movie of the summer :P

the Calipso thing was a let-down, she was only there to create the Maelstrom and background info on Dave.

Kracken. . .

Goodnight, sweet prince.

Oh and yeah, I left the second movie expecting more Kraken action in this one...another disappointment -.-

What a freaking bummer. First spider-man 3, which i was pretty peeved about to begin with and after hearing people i trust for such information have decided to wait it out till dvd or VoD... Now this. Every single person i've asked about it has had just about the same gripes about this movie from my regulars at the store, to my friends, you guys, the papers .. all of it ... 'meh.'

Knowing for damn sure the new fantastic four is going to blow goat balls... This summer's gonna blow.

I loved the movie, it was really funny and very entertaining. I noticed all of the problems in the movie(why was a pirate lord the first mate to another pirate lord?), but I'd be willing to bet cash the continuity problems with the first movie were just because they didn't originally intend it to be a trilogy. The plot holes were likely cut out because of time, the movie is almost 3 hours long and adding in that stuff would have pushed it to unreasonable limits. I'd be surprised if in the DVD there was not additional scenes with all of those problems addressed, and they were just cut for time.

This was a better movie than Spiderman 3 I feel. Spiderman 3 was entertaining, but it was really only disappointing if you knew about the characters and the comics; pirates was much easier for a layman to spot the problems, but at the same time they weren't nearly as big of problems I feel. They fucked up with venom, but if you didn't know about him it was fine; in Pirates it's mostly just an annoyance. The double-crossing thing was overdone, in the first movie Jack wasn't nearly as only-out-for-himself-fuck-everyone-else in the first one as he was here, but that could just be not wanting to go back to Davy Jones' locker again.

The EIC fleet likely just ran because they realized that the Flying Dutchman was no longer on their side. So now they're facing the entire pirate fleet AND the Flying Dutchman, along with their commander just being wiped out, it's not hard to believe they'd rout since their morale just went to shit. It's also likely they just wrapped it up really quickly because of time.

Oh, and Calypso was the most pathetic god ever. You can make a whirlpool, and turn yourself into crabs, why were the pirates such pussies to be scared of her?

Dont get me wrong I would still say go see it. If nothing else, like I said, it is part of a trilogy that for the most part was excellent. For the time in the movie theater it was entertaining enough to not have me bored. I can understand things being cut to reduce movie length, but it seems they could of left out some of the parts they did have in, and put in scenes that explained more rather than kept us entertained for the instant they were being viewed. (Like Jack's "good and evil angels" on his shoulders. That seemed a bit... out of place. Sure he was a little batty from davey jones's locker, but damn.)

This movie was worth seeing in the theatre!! It still wasnt the first one but it is alot better than the 2nd.

Have you actually seen either of them? Don't worry about other people and go decide for yourself whether or not you like them -.-

No, i haven't but for different reasons. I'm not so much convinced on pirates so much as spider-man 3. I do however take the buzz around a movie in before i go check it out seeing as how i know a bunch of people with similair tastes and have an incredibly huge pool of opinions to sample. I also can't work out a night at the movies for another 2 weeks or so ><

My reasoning behind spider-man 3 admittedly is a fanboy issue that's been building since the start of the movies and reaches a climax the likes of which i'm not dropping $12 to go see when i can just as easily wait for the masacre to hit a disc or my cable box. :P

That's another topic altogether tho, didn't mean to derail on to spider-man but this summer seriously is looking a bit bleak in the way of 'must see' flicks for me. :/

My question is, why did they start these storylines if they weren't going to finish them.

They made the 2nd and the 3rd movies at the SAME TIME, so in my opinion they should have flowed and closed smoothly. Why start the storylines if you weren't going to finish them? Why have the great speech about fighting for freedom, and have the pirates raise their colors and cheer, and then not fight anything. The trilogy is about PIRATES, that was a prime time to give them their spotlight.

They could have had them fight the armada while the Black Pearl was fighting the flying Dutchman, and it would have been going badly beacuse the pirates were outumbered, and then have the Black Pearl victory turn the tide.

But most of all they didn't even have to start some of these storylines, that's what I don't get.

personally im not a big pirates fan and i have to say i thought it sucked... it had some pretty stupid stuff in it like the whole "your crazy" "well id have to be mad in order for this to work" was competley dumb and by will becoming the captain... just made me hate it more, it just proved that jack sparrow is a cowardless ass hole, if he was really gonna be the one to stab the heart he coulda saved wills life ANY ways because he controls the passage of souls then.... i reallly reallly hated the movie :\ wasnt a big fan of the frist 2 either way but some of the fight scenes were nice, and Miss swan is a whore!!!!!! -_- sorry pirate fans, i seriously dont think ive seen a good movie since 300 than includes Spiderman 3, 28 Weeks later, and Vacancy, Potc3 (havent seen any other movies that look interesting) now Transformers, and fantasic four silver surfer look amazing 8)
