This little tarutaru has an attitude problem, and he shares this problem with many other lower-level players.

To be general; the problem is that these lowbie players feel as if higher level players owe them something. They also seem to think that their time is somehow more valuable than ours. (Their being lowbies, and Our being higher level players.)

Evidence:

Tooshie sends me a tell asking; "how do you craft?"

I reply with something along the lines of; "There are volumes of text on the internet about the subject, as well as mini tutorials from the NPCs in the guild houses. I suggest you start there."

Tooshie: oh, bit help u r.
Keits: Comon, it would take me hours to type out all the information that your oh-so-general question demands. These answers are already writen, all you have to do is go read them.
Tooshie: i bet u dont have any friends
Tooshie: u r a loser and have no life
Tooshie: u r fat

Tooshie went on for along time about what a loser I am, which makes him stand out as a real asshole. But many other players are very guilty of this. Im not opposed to helping people. If they ask reasonable things of me, I usually offer my help or my knowlage.

Yesterday, I was mining in gusgen, when I recieve a tell from a player who's name I've forgotten.

Player: Im trying to do the NIN quest, do you offer your services?
Keits: Im in gusgen right now mining, sorry.
Player: Well I really need the help if you could come.
Keits: It would have to be worth my while in some way to compensate for the money I'm trying to spend my time making mining.
Player: Well I was going to offer 30-50k, but nevermind now.
Keits: Is that a legit offer, or a taunt? Like "Here is what you could have had but now you cant HA HA"?
Player: A little of both.
Keits: *insert rant about the value of a person's time here*

Or even worse; this has happed:

Player: Help me with XXX quest please.
Keits: I'm sorry I'm busy right now.
Player: fuck u selfish faggot you have no life

Anyway, this is a disturbing trend. Every time I say no to someone, I recoil in preparation to be called names. This isnt right, and this attitude wont earn you any respect, get you any help, or make you any friends. If you are guilty of the above, now or ever, I suggest you cut the bullshit or quit the game. You'll build a tilk-like repuation in no time.

PS. Couldnt resist a tilk-stab.

:P

The attitude of the growing majority of people on this game has literally brought me to the point where I am just ready to quit. Any given day I receive numerous tells from random people.
* help me do XXX quest
* power level me
* i need a teleport mea

Last night I received a tell... "power level me" there was no please, no thank you, just a demand. I replied, no thanks and was then told "f**k you Bitch!"

What in the hell is wrong with people. My god, I would never dream of speaking to somebody that way. Rudeness has me really down in the dumps =(

I hear you Keits. I think you would love WHM :).

Player X: Raise in Dunes please.
Me: I am in Windurst doing a mission, sorry.
Player X: Come on please.

Now I made that up but thats the type of scenairos we WHMs get with lower levels. Sometimes I cave in and go and do teleport Dem to find they just home pointed themselves. That REALLY PISSes ME OFF. Inconsiderate jerks ruin it for us all.

I hate getting requests to power level from strangers. It's one of the most tedious actions you can do. I think people don't realize it until you do it.

As for annoying newbs, yes, I was helping a person get their skull in the Gusgen mines....and I'm like 25 levels higher than these people. What do they do? They start getting themselves killed fighting skeletons. Why would they try? Because the guy needed 800 exp to level. (He's level 15. I should include this). I'm already wasting an hour of my time hunting these ghouls and the guy has to the nerve to ask "Well, I'm still 800 tnl." Well, good for you. You can try to level on your own then. The kind of expectation that I should have to automatically help you level is absurd. I dont' mind helping for items, but I will not power level people I do not know. I barely power level people I do know. (Being in a good party makes you level a lot faster than a power leveller.)

But yes, I have been receiving requests. The only requests I really entertain to help people is to help them get their Giddeus key when I am already farming. That's about it.

I have also gotten /tells from strangers... and actually a request from someone in my linkshell once.. O.O but THAT person was new and didnt know better. I'm a Drk or a War (when I need to be), we have nothing to offer to Powerleveling at all. :/

Sad but true

I have to agree with everything said for the most part but before we all go noob bashing not all of em are bad..... example i met a newer plaer lvl 14 rdm named Morgaine. She was very nice and easy to talk to asked questions and didn't persis on instant help on the q and asked if she was getting annoyin at all. After she got her sub job she was lvl a whm and paid a player to power lvl her to lvl 10 (as most of us know 1-10 whm really suck) only to be labandoned by her power lvler. Me being a nice guy proceded to power lvl her out of bordem and got her to lvl 10. We walked back to bastok were she got me the map for wadi (from windy never wnet there untill then) and insisted on giving me 2k. and what does all this typing mean not a damn thing to some of you but i mean to say not all newer players are bad. But trust me when im on my whm>< ppl seam to think raise spell was free and we get the money we put into it back, anyway im done for now. thank you for your time

Dragoth (Elvaan)
lvl 40 drg, 34 whm, 30 mnk, 30 sam, 18 war 15 smn ......and others

P. S. Kahlaan is slang for death.........lol J/k you can slap me in the game kahlaan

Keits! I happened to be in Bastok on my mule this afternoon when I saw that happening... you and Naffenu talking to Tooshie, or Tooshie just shouting that you two were abusing it. lol I wanted to send you a /tell to ask you what the hell was going on, and just dismissed it as one of your friends. Then again, apparently you have no friends, because you bring up things people should probably know if they spent 20 min reading the instruction booklet...

I, too, know the pains of having to say "no"... The following ":("'s and the "manfuckyouyoustupidassmidgettarupieceofshit" that I can get put me off a little. To ease the pain of when I do say no, I usually refer them to someone who can/will help them out instead of myself, or tell them a good place to look. I know it sounds a lot like taking my problem and making it someone else's... wait, that's EXACTLY what it is! :D

Nah, don't worry about it. Just as there are jerks all over the place in real life, there happen to be a higher % of jerks that play internet games, because apparently some people think you can act any way you want and get away with it. I just think it's funny that a lot of the newer players (not ALL, but quite a handfull) think that the higher levels are there to do quests for them, and to hold their hands. I always offer advice, suggestions, but my time is so sparse on the game that I can hardly ever physically be there to DO things for people. I've hardly had anybody having a problem with my approach, although when I do, I do what Keits does...

*insert rant about value of a person's time here* (Sorry Keits but I feel the same way)

There are plenty of nice newbies out there :) I'm lucky I snatched a lot of them up in my LS when the PS2 came out... haha and I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for you! Dont' go to the dark side! Don't let CowboysFromHell ruin your life!! XD

The people who takes the easy path ends up being sucking in their job. This is same with quests, items, gil and misson accomplishments. Those people who made effort in these areas are usually ending up being good players. What surprising is these people who takes easier path ends up being in HNMLS. True with JP and NA.

Off topic, the person who really helped me in a couple of quests 2~3 months ago, has now joined an HNMLS. He/SHe is JP, who has abandoned his/her long time friends (2years) and joined this HNMLS for his/her black belt. Now he/she is seen in Dragon Aery every night threatening his/her old friend to not come near this place. He/she even threatened his/her Ex-best friend to stop going to onzozo for the Lord of Onzozo. Ironic and sad. The most helpfull person has turned into one of the most @sshole person in the server. Taking an easy path comes with a price. And this person came with a price of server's most hated HNMLS member. I believe soon GMs will move to them.

Sorry for the derailing. Carry on.

Oh man, he was a high quality player. He kept telling me I needed to do crunches. It was soo funny! AND CLEVER! to boot. Well at any rate, i'm going to bed because it's 3 am, but for the record, I hate lazy newbs.

I was in no way implying that 100% (or all) of the newer players are bad. I know that some nice/good ones exist, and I happened to meet one tonight.

But im just so tired of people feeling that because I have more (money, experience, levels) than them, that I somehow owe them my time to help them 'catch up'.

Runekane: You are right. That how-to-craft BS is in the instruction booklet. I should have used that when I tore that Tooshie person a new asshole. Now I feel like I only did half my job ><

I've skilled-down as an insult comic ; ;

I must admit. This is rather a sad state of affairs.

I remember back when this was a simpler time. Back when FFXI first came out for PC in America... I was litterally... sitting in awe... in AWE ... At how everyone was being so POLITE to one another! This was a god-send to me.

Valkurm Dunes was actually a GOOD place to Level.

Then it came out for PS2... And all the bad newbies (which there are quite alot of) from the PS2 version started screwing up the game's economy... And like I said before, SQUARE-ENIX saw this and created Mentoring... That's like them turning to us PC players and saying:

"Hey... Here... YOU deal with it."

An accquaintance of mine. A Hume named Garvin (We've both been playing since PC release) has "quit" playing FFXI... sort of (I usually always say something that makes him start playing again, after he claims he quits "for good"). But as of late, he's become hostile towards me as it seems.

He goes on his rants about how "Americans ruined FFXI" and how "If Devi was talking to a Japanese person, and asked him how to say 'I'll suck your dick for Gil' in Japanese that Devi would do it." (Simply based on the fact that like mostly everyone here, I prefer to play with Japanese players as opposed to these "kids".) ... So he keeps bashing me, associating me with... what he calls.... the "fucktards who play the PS2 version" ... even though I've been playing the PC version. And continues the rant as to how much Americans ruined it... I point out how Hypocritical he's being... because he's from Pennsylvania!

To which point, I started calling him Michael Moore. Mr "I hate America, even though I live here."

If you've met me in game, which I'm sure a great number of you have. You'd know I'm not like that at all. (Most of you probably know from either PT'ing with me, or getting Teleport-Dem~Vahzl'ed by me) ...I really do think that this was sad. Yet, it was bound to happen at some point. Sadly, I've had the same experiences as Keits... Kahlaan... and the rest of you, especially from being a high-level White Mage. And it's come to the point where I've set myself as /anon and took off my Mentor status.

I shouldn'tve had to do that. Just to avoid these "kiddies".

Oddly, it's not the very new and low lv ppl that I often get bothered by. And by "bothered" I refer to the definition of: un-initated, rude, random, requests for help. Always I get these /tells as i'm fishing in Jueno, un-anon, with seek up, lfg.
Most of these follow the line of a "hey" or a "sup".
I respond, in translator "Hello"
"will you come get genkai, will you come kill, can you plse come do this quest, etc"
Of them all, only one really troubles me, the Genkai 1 ones.
Now I understand that this crop of people has us to turn to for help, and we can (sometimes unfortunately) actually read what they say.
However, as i recall, by the time I had leveld enough to Need the Genkai items for the 1st cap, I had already established Some friendships through my LS, and I knew others that I had at least grouped with multiple times as we moved up the ranks.
So, when it came time to get thise items for myself, "GASP", I actually had to form allys with people in my level and Earn them.
I don't recall bothering every non-anon JPN in rulude gardens asking for just one or 2 to come hold my hand and walk me through it.
Maybe some of those in my range at the time did. Maybe they were able to get that type of help, or perhaps not due to the language barriar.
I really think, forming those allies helped me not only learn to play better, but helped make this game more fun in the most important way, by strengthing the relationships with people I tend to group with.
Where are the LS, where are the battle comrades for this Crop??!
I'd like to know.
Since its not 50 ppl a day asking, i'm going to take a guess that its either:
A. people that dont play much, and can't afford the time to invest in such relationships.
B. The lazy or already "tilk" like people of this group. (I lean to this one, but then again, i'm a bit of a cynic)
either way though, all the multitude's of requests for all sorts of help, usually from someone on the otherside of the "world" no less, has got me hiding under anon almost all the time now. I'd LFG anon if I thought I could get away with it. ><
and i'm not even a mage. just a glass cannon. /sigh

Kahlaan, I have asked in random shouts, and also direct tells to players asking for help at certain times. I feel bad now seeing your post that I have done perhaps somethings wrong. I have always been courteous when I have gotten a response that they could not help (which is 90% of the time). I usually will just say "ok, thank you for responding". I usually adress them by starting with "excuse me..." first, so I sound somewhat polite. Should I not bother? Am I being a "newb" asking people this? I would sincerely like to know, because I don't want to push anyone's buttons.

I have on several occasions sent direct tells to Glide, asking if I could ask him some questions, and he has always replied graciously back to me. He even went so far as to volunteer to help me find a coffer chest, and I am very grateful for his generosity. But I would never want to offend himself or yourself by asking questions, or asking for help. I don't mind getting told "no, sorry I am busy" I completely understand this as a legitimate reason, which I respond to "np" or "thank you". I am NOT flaming you, I just want to know from your point of view, if I am wrong for doing this?

I am not one that will spam questions, or requests for help, and I know what everyone here is talking about in the way of attitudes these "requestors" have. Now I am rambling................lol

Malakai.............OUT

No no no Malakai please don't misunderstand me. I have no problems with people asking for help or even sending tells. But it seems that 90% of the tells I do get aren't even asking for help they are demanding it. They don't say "excuse me, or please or hello just a simple tell that says "power level me" or "I need a tele mea" Now if I were to receive a tell that said "excuse me, could i please get a tele mea" then yes! I would be more than happy to give that person a tele. But when I get a tell that says only "power level me" and I respond "no thanks" then I don't think I deserve to be told "f**k you bitch!" Anyway what it boils down to for me is common courtesy, if you have it then I am always more than happy to help if I can! No courtesy? Then no thanks!

It isn't just you intermediate to high level people who are getting bothered. I was lvl 16 war running from Dunes back to Bastok to sale some things, upgrade some armor/weapons, and buy some more mithkabobs when a lvl 14 guy runs up to me and /tell me "Do you have any extra gil or armor that you don't need?" I just replied with a laugh and continued to Bastok. About a week later with my lvl 19 monk I was about to log out in Selbina and someone /tell "Powerlevel me" Now personally I don't know how effectivly he thought a mellee character could powerlevel someone only 6 lvl's higher than him but I just replied "Sorry I'm logging for the night."

Keits, holy crap man.
What the hell is up with this newb?
I'm guessing 11-13 years old, and acts like he's 9 and just learned potty mouth from Daddy.

I got nothing...
:?

Synical - Amen to you brother! Bravo /clap You took the words right out of my mouth. Back in the day, yes I got frustrated because AFQuests/Missions were pretty difficult without HL help. Granted, I would never pass up an offer if a HL wanted to assist but then again I wouldn't demand it or even consider sending tells to those who weren't offering. I psyched myself up.. and spent the countless hours organizing parties and alliances for people with the same goal I had. If possible, I would try and leverage LS help first! instead of demanding help from a total stranger. What irks me is WHERE do these current crop of players get this mentality? I'd be Lfg'n and my description clearly states Experience points ~ Can I have it? and I would get the "PL ME", "CAN I HAVE GIL", "WE NEED YOU TO KILL MOBS FOR COFFER KEY", "SHOW ME WHERE XXX IS" etc. What ever happened to introductions like.. hello, my name is xxxxx. how are you today and are you currently busy? I swear.. I dont think I have ever seen a /tell like that unless it was from an LS mate or in game friend. What even pisses me off is the sudden invite to party while I am lfg'n.. no tell what so ever. I'd send these culprits a /tell asking why they invited me.. and of course, I'd get the answers stated above  I admit, sometimes...I'd give in if it was something relatively ez.. like Killing the NM giant for Rank4 or killing any AF1 NM etc. I'd get into a pt for this and if it never fails, it never fails.. there would be a player in the pt that thinks s/he knows everything when in actuality they never completed the said task. What's annoying is that they would argue with me on what their guide says!! Oh well.. such is life in vanadiel, I am trying to adjust to these current conditions and am noticing that I am veering towards actions I never thought I'd do...... (I'm sorry)(I don't understand)(English) :(

Yeah; just to add...

I also have no issue with being asked for help or answer. But I like to retain the right of refusal if im busy doing something. I feel like im losing the right of refusal because of the reactions I get.

I should read: "Well thank you for your time"
But instead I read: "Y teh fuck r u high lvls so selfish?"
