PLD weapon choice at 65

I used Espadon +1 at 66, didnt know about the Macuahuitl +1 as ToaU was just coming out when I was that level PLD. I have since picked one up for use at Lv 75 situations. Looks nasty but it works well. :)

Also, get earrings that do something more than add HP and MP

Antivenom: Enhances the effect of "Resist Poison"
Insomnia: Enhances the effect of "Resist Sleep" (Already playing off of PLD's natural 'Resist Sleep' trait, this ring greatly increases your chances of never being slept.)

It's people like you that make me want to eat Taru infants.

One of my first earrings from ToaU areas was the Stoic earring, 20 extra hp and lowers the amount of time you are stunned, when I was in exp partys against those birds in Bibiki bay I used to hate that stun move they used.

Baxk when all those lv 50 earrings came out they were super expensive as I recall up to 200k each and many Pld's were still using those lv 33 Pigeon earrings that added 20 hp.

instead of a bibiki seashell I'd recommend a Fenrir's Stone. +30 hp during day +10 evasion at night. Pretty sweet.

People Like me Huh?! It's you that don't know wtf your doing. Why gimp yourself for "Resist Poison"? Tell your rdm/whm to wake up and cast poisona. I wouldn't trade Buckler/Drone for that crap anyday. Resist Sleep has marginal use, only on Imps in my opinion. Why use it for something like crawlers? Shield skill and Agility for parries helps you in all situations.

I don't know why you continue trying to argue your valid points. These people are obviously much too ignorant to understand that a turtling paladin is a thing of the past.

Also judging from their equipment choices about paladin, I'm sure they enjoy evasion built ninjas too.

i r leet pld. I ware dis stuf.

Defending Ring -10%
Jelly ring -5%

Iron Ram Lance -10%

Shadow Mantle (ocassionally cancels)
Askar Gambieras -2%
Valhalla Breastplate -5%
Valhalla Helm -5%
Darksteel mittens +1 -2%
Darksteel Subligar +1 -3%

Thats saying if you could get all this stuff, that alone is -42% (not counting the cape, which could be replaced with a -6% or -5%, but DL cape cancels all damage occasionally...), and you could easily get more -% if you focus on physical damage reduction solely instead of just damage reduction.

Turtling could become quite usesful again if certain gear was acquired, I assume. But then again, what are the chances of someone getting all of the top damage reduction gear?

It's still extremely situational. The gear you have listed would be for nearly only physical damage. Also, the level of the gear you have listed suggests it would be for 75.

This topic is about experience parties, to use the gear you have listed in a 75 merit party would be extremely detrimental, even with that shiny Defending Ring. Sure you can swap in HP gear to throw a fake Cure spike, but a 1k WS from a DD will surely rip hate from you and you WILL NOT get it back by turtling. A good DD will hold that hate while taking little to ZERO damage until the mob is dead, or another DD has taken hate. This is why a PLD should gear as DD in a party.

Also, a turtling PLD at 75 is more likely to build MDB and Elemental Resist equipment setups. Granted most if not all end game NMs have the potential to deal extremely damaging magic skills. In fights where attacks are not extremely physically damaging, the reduction set you showed may prove to be exceptional for that situation. However, mobs like Tiamat have an arsenal of extremely damaging physical attacks (hello MS crit x2) and damaging magical attacks (hello missed stun Firaga III) as well as when she flies. Ninja sub job excels due to absorbing those double MS crits with shadows and a fire resist setup for spells/air attacks. Jailer of Love will hit with nothing but magic spells due to it's extremely damaging physical attacks when it gains Boost from Fluorescence. To avoid it, the tanks will sit outside of melee range, although Jailer of Love will not look to melee, it will sit and cast spells.

This game is built extremely on situational events, chance favors the prepared mind.

Yeah, its kind of a derail.. But either way, Ive not once seen a paladin wearing full damage reduction gear, only bits and pieces here and there.. Most notably jelly ring and earth staff, but thats all I normally see, ever.

I mean, I dont know how well it works, but obviously having -50% physical damage would be something awesome to have if your going to stick with mr turtle. At least I assume so. (Sorry, the derail was meant as end-game paradins)

You make it sound like high HP, VIT, and -phys % taken is a bad thing.. maybe on colibri but in just about any situation where you need a tank.. to TANK meaning take hits and keep hate gearing up like a DD is retarded. So no, gearing for DD is not necessarily better than a turtle pld, and no, it is not a thing of the past.. it is situational and useful depending on what you're fighting.

My end-game'ish gear:

Macahuitl +1
Koenig Shield
Jelly Ring
Bomb Queen Ring
Koenig Head
Koenig Hands
AF +1 Body
Knight's Earring
Ethereal Earring
Warwolf Belt
Boxer's Mantle
Crimson Cuisses
Crimson Greaves
Fenrir Stone
Parade Gorget/Shield Torque

Yeah, a lot of time those other slots will be used for Shield skill/Haste/HP/MP/etc. For something like Faust, it may be useful as he only attacks physically. However, while taking little damage, there are probably other gear choices to swap in to increase Shield Blocks, decrease recast times, and keep yourself refreshed. I'm sure an end game PLD could enlighten me more so on how they prioritize these equipment slots during different types of battles.

Earth Staff became some what obsolete after the Shield Mastery update, so gearing for Shield Skill+ (until a certain level) will produce better results than pure damage reduction gear. Shield is probably one of the main reasons you don't see them in full reduction gear, aside from Haste, Enmity, HP, what have you.

You experience party on King Behemoth's and Tiamat's or something? Joking aside, they deal more magic damage than anything, anyway.

Please enlighten me where you would EXP from 65-75 where turtling is beneficial.

You experience party on King Behemoth's and Tiamat's or something?

No.. I tank end-game shit like sky G-ds, dragons up in the Aery, the occasional Jailer, you know.. things that actually make my choice to turtle beneficial.

Yeah, I'm not going to respond to that.

The defense motherfucking rests.

...Crimson Greaves? :banghead3:

yeah, af boots > crimson greaves, and thats a free piece of gear that requires very little work. Only other thing I would trade to tank in besides af feet is af +1 feet.
