...to who you're inviting (or sending tells of: {Party} {Do you need it?}, especially to people who aren't seeking.

I know seeing 12NIN/6WHM looks a lot like 12NIN/6WAR, but there really is a big difference. :P

I usually take my Ninja out to Konschtat Highlands to do some soloing, and since I have absolutely no intention of getting into a party, I do what seems like the smart thing to me, and sub WHM so I have better survival. I like killing off Easy Prey since it doubles as farming (I'm poor), and I don't like the idea of running through stacks of ninja tools for a party (I'm cheap and poor), so the little bit of leveling I do for NIN is only for playing on my own, not in parties. :P I'd much rather spend my gil on my main and its subs (RDM: BLM and WHM) instead of a random job like NIN. Somehow though, I still manage to get invites each time for partying in Valkurm Dunes...

I got about 5 invites today. A few of them I ignored, I'm sure the people would realize their mistakes. One of them I directed to "/search all Ichibankitsune". And the other... well, I played on it. I really don't like people sending multiple "{Party} {Do you need it?}" tells when I'm not seeking, and am busy. It's annoying when you're too busy to respond right away (like in a fight) and you get a few messages from the same person saying the same thing. Before I was able to reach Valkurm Dunes, the person who invited me realized I was nin/whm instead of nin/war and said that I wasn't what he wanted. Considering I needed to go to Selbina to restock on Darts anyways, I figured I'd see how far I could go with it, playing all sad and pathetic like "But you said I could join your party..."

I was able to get the guy to completely contradict his reasonings for not wanting me in the party, until he actually came up with a good excuse. Not only did he say that he didn't need a tank, because the party had two White Mages and a Power Leveler, but he also said that the party was completely planned out already by him, and it never had a tank originally (I was going to be the replacement for a Bard :P). His argument of "you don't have /WAR" died when he admitted that he outright said that he didn't need a tank, and it wasn't until near the end of the conversation (10 or so minutes later) that a valid excuse came out (that he wasn't able to contradict). That being the fact that a nin/whm at level 12 isn't much of a damage dealer, and would be useless in a party because of that.

Maybe I was wrong to take advantage of a situation like that, and "lead him on" to believe that I was a nin/war instead of nin/whm (although that only lasted about two minutes, tops), I just figured I'd have some fun with someone that wasn't paying attention to my subjob, and I think it's his own fault for being mislead, since my seek flag wasn't up.

I know it's pretty much expected to see any NIN or PLD subbing WAR, so people probably don't pay much attention to that. Or like a SMN or BRD subbing WHM. When it's really common, you usually just look at the main job and don't pay attention to the subjob, because you expect it to be what it 'always' is. Just saying that people should be a bit more careful and pay a bit more attention to details, at least when trying to invite someone who isn't even looking for a party.

If someone was running around with a 'poor subjob choice' for a certain level with their seek flag up (and no search comment to specify what subjob they'd be using in a party, or something similar) then I could understand.

Either way, it was still a fun experience. Multitasking while soloing (like having a conversation) always makes things go by faster and is more fun. :P

I'd settle for people reading my (Party) (No Thanks) (I'm playing solo right now.) search comment before they send me the (Party) (Do you need it?) /tell. It's hard to know how many don't pay attention and how many see it and take a shot anyway.

I got a party leveling my nin... NIN9/WAR1... Do people seriously need ninjas that badly in the dunes?

I got an invite on my MNK once while I was soloing out in Konshtat with WHM sub. Turns out they were rediculously desperate for a healer. What a lucky bastard to have caught me while I had both Astral rings and pies in my inventory from something earlier.

If you don't want party invites, either put up a search comment saying you don't want to, or type this: /anon.

couldn't you just /anon?

I was just about to say that. If you're soloing, it takes all of a second to type /anon. If you have no intention of partying, it's not important for people to see what job you are.

Also, there many people actually pay attention to search messages. Sometimes typing a simple {I'm playing solo right now} or {Experience Points}{Party}{No, thanks.} in your search msg will do the trick.

Take it from a whm who walks around with /anon on most of the time... If you really don't want to be bothered, or are in the midst of doing something, /anon and/or a search msg can be your best friend.

Or just realize it is the dunes. Seriously, understanding that it is the dunes should tell you why people don't 'notice.'

If you hate it so much, do as so many others have already said. /anon!

If you go /anon, people may assume you are a job with Raise. lol

I lik to keep people informed though. If someone decides they want to camp Rams, I don't want them to /sea the zone and assume I am also camping them. Leaving your levels visible also reduces the amount of people farming your XP mobs. I have had more than a few guys killing sheep suddenly call it a night when they realized I was only level 12 and was actually killing th sheep for XP rather than the Skins/teeth/whatever.

I don't really see why someone should have to hide their level to avoid the invite. The fact that they don't have their flag up while being that close to an XP zone should tell you they aren't interested or are AFK. Requesting that people go anon is silly considering it takes the same amount of time to actually read a search comment.

Since we are condicendingly tossing out commands people can use to make up for others mistakes...

/sea all invite 10-13 [Do you need it?]

when they start asking random people like this it is under sheer desperation. They need to fill a party and there not enough people to fill that party then you just going have to find someone. Is it that hard to say {no thanks}? If it is just go /anon. Please look at it from the other prespective, the prespective of a party leader trying to pull a wild card from a deck of cards. wild card = person not seeking that say yes. deck= all the people that have a certain type of job in that range bracket.

lol this remind me of that gm dave story of the girl that called gm for harassment because people keep asking her for party.

I prefer to use a search comment to deflect invites instead of going /anon, but there are exceptions. If I'm booking it through the dunes or fishing in Qufim, I'm going /anon because I don't want to be bombarded with raise and PL requests.

Otherwise I like to keep my job visible, because sometimes people have questions or need help. I was in Beaucedine Glacier and got a /tell from a WHM who didn't have a map and was having a hard time finding Fei'yin. We partied up and I helped him find his chest for the Teleport-Vazhl quest.

Inviteing non flg people is not 100% right but some times needed what is more anoying in dunes is people FLD in sandy or baskot and they wil not come to dunes ><

Yes, this is true. However, I also feel when there are options at your disposal to remedy the situation, there is no point in letting it get you this angry. If you hate anon, use the search comment. If the search comment doesn't work, just tell the party 'no'. It really is that simple.

And then if you really want to get your point across to the correct audience, just /tell the person that invited to LOOK at your seacom.

So much truth to that. I do not like using anon as much as the JPs and the JP fanboys do, but definitely when I'm booking it through the dunes it is either /anon or Russian Roulette Raise Requests! The quadR lol

[Word]

I don't think the OP is actually angry though. It sounded to me like he was more amused by the absurdity of it all. The thread was really just a few examples why it would be in your best intrest to looking closer at who you invite, considering how the last guy actualy didn't mean it when he sent the invite.

The lesson here is, "Don't invite a NIN/WHM unless you really want a NIN/WHM."

"Desperation" is the right word. I was killing time before yesterday's Fenrir fight and doing a quest in Jeuno. I was on Monk at the time without my flag up, and a party leader sent me a /tell asking if I wanted to xp.

I told him I could only stay about 90 minutes, but that I'd join if that was okay with everyone else. Then he said "I'm still looking for people, but I can only stay a little while. I probably shouldn't bother making a party. NVM." He disbanded the ones he'd found a few minutes later. I think a lot of people dodged a bullet on that one.

This is something that you will deal with from 10-70. Most will tell you they get more invites when not seeking than while seeking. This occures more so when you are in a more desired job or in a level range that is difficult to find members. Ninja is a desired job. Acccept it as flattery and move on. In the dunes I would have most likely passed over you because parties don't tend to last long enough to be able to ask you if you would be willing to warp and change your sub and join the party. I once invited a BLM while thinking that I was inviting a BLU and yes I was embarressed but sometimes we speed read.

NIN/W... I could see it. Adding a seacom (with a non-green dot) saying you were playing solo and party no thanks is the best choice you have outside of simply going /anon. You'll still have a few who will slip in and ask and try to convince you to party-- but, try to look at it from their perspective. Twiddle their thumbs and wait for a tank to flip their flag on, or take the risk of you simply saying no?

Not sure if /THF is an option to you.. but that or bard might be a better solo sub for you level. Toss in some Selbina's Milk and you might be able to take on some Decent Challenges. (Off topic.)

spell it out.

Hence the upsurge in begging for gil/equipment I've been noticing, but that's another topic altogether.

If you don't want to be bothered by people just /anon.
