POL News: All Worlds Maintenance

Seriously, be happy with what you have and stop complaining about stuff, and then complain even more when you get what you asked for. Life isn't perfect, neither is a game. If you haven't learned that yet, please go and interract with people in your life so you can once and for all learn that lesson.

Dude seriously you have no clue what your talking about. It's not like I'm complaining about a fucking piece of gear I can't get or some NM I can't beat.

I can't fucking zone into areas... I CAN'T GO INTO DYNAMIS because it kicks me off. I can't even use the search function or see whose in my god damn shell AT ALL. The hell its not there fault. Get your head out of your ass.

Just because it doesn't affect Uzor doesn't mean SE didn't do something wrong. And it's not just me. It's at least 20% of the population. How would you feel if you couldn't even tele-holla cause the game would kick you out of La Thiene. Not once but EVERY SINGLE TIME THE SECOND YOU SET FOOT IN IT. Pretty selfish attitude.

I pay my $15 bucks every month same as you bro I deserve to have a game that functions properly.

To start off, you might just want to open the command prompt and type tracert www.playonline.com and see if you time out on that.

I obviously can since I'm going to the main site for the details. However, none of these methods are likely to work as the problem only crops up when tracing to their internal servers.

I've had those problems before. I know what its like. Hell, the majority of the Swedish population had it a few months back, but no one else had it. I know exactly what its like, 'cause I couldn't even log in to the game for several days, and when I finally managed to log on, I couldn't stay connected for more then 1 hour at a time, and would then take another 20 min to log on.

I called SE, they said everything was working fine. I then called my ISP, they said everything was working fine.

I didn't run around screaming "OMG! SE'S CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS BECAUSE THEY REFUSE TO FIX MY PROBLEM!". Everyone in Sweden had that problem. We've had this occur a total of 3 times for months at a time. Don't give me that "If you had this problem you would change your oppinion" attitude. Its not SE's fault. There's nothing they ca ndo about it. You need to either call your ISP, or wait untill its fixed by itself. There's no use running around saying how much SE sucks. That won't fix your problem faster. All it will lead to is yourself getting upset and annoyed. If you constantly think about it, and blame SE for something that's out of their reach, what will you get?

What exactly is it you try to achieve?

thats the stupidest concept ever "theres a problem and both SE and my ISP says its fine so that means something magically must be malfunctioning" meanwhile ur still paying for a service you cant currently use while waiting "until its fixed by itself" ok...being a student in information technology..i can tell you that nothing that has to do with the internet or networking gets "fixed by iteself" so somewhere along the line there is a problem with something...and i dont care how many times you say that its not SE, NO ONE HAD THIS PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE UPDATE

Uzor, I've phoned my service provider and there's nothing wrong on their end, apparently I have a great connection going on - everything else (ie internet sites/downloads/email) is working fine, the only thing NOT working is FFXI. This is now day 6 that I haven't been able to log on. This blanket "Well it's not our fault it's yours" is bullshit. SE knows there is a problem with the update. People were fine before the download, now their not - obviously there was something in that download that is conflicting with a lot of peoples connections/computers.

Stop trying to defend a company that I pay every month to provide a service that I'm not receiving. They can either A) Admit theres a problem and start fixing it B) reimburse my monthly fee for time lost or C) pretend nothing is wrong and lose a large % of their paying customers.

If you pay to go see a movie and the movie doesn't start would you just sit there and be like "OH well! It's my own fault for picking this theater to go see it in, naah don't worry about it Mr Cineplex, I don't need you to provide the service I paid for! Keep my money! I'll just have to come back some other time and pay for it again!" Because that's pretty much what you're saying in a different situation. Totally ridiculous

Everyone don't have the problem, so its obviously not SE's fault. Otherwise everyone would have the same problem. And I do know what I'm talking about, because if you'd read ym entire post, you'd see I've had that very same problem 3 times. One of them being after a major update. A lot of people in Sweden had the same problem. Everyone with the same ISP.

When I said "fix itself", I didn't mean it'd magically fix itself. I simply ment that the maintaine crew noticed the problem and fixed it. I assumed you'd understand what I ment, but I was obviously wrong.

Yes, I know. Your ISP will quite naturally tell you its nothing wrong at their end. I do believe I even wrote that myself. You need to ask if there's anything you can do etc.

And yes, all 3 of the times I had the same problem, everything was working fine except for FFXI. So yes, I've been in that possition more then once. I do believe I've written this 3-4 times now, aswell. I'm not sure how many more times I have to write that I've been in the situation before you snap it up, though. I'll see that as an experiment.

And comparing this to a movie theatre is rather out there, as its not even close to similar.

it logical to conclude that something in the update is interfearing with the game performance. aside from none of these issues happening prior to the update, i dont see an ISP problem effecting you zoneing into certain areas. if it was not being able to log on at all then thats a different story. and DC'ing when you click off a buff or whatnot, your ISP isnt gonna effect that either.

but maybe some fool did something to SE's servers again. maybe they messed up the update. nothing is certain really. im siding with that its SE's fault or at the very least a problem on their end.

Meteors did it.

A lot of people in Sweden had the same problem. Everyone with the same ISP.

I can understand everyone with the same ISP having an issue, but this is not the case. I dont care who's problem it is as long as it gets fixed. Hopefully this would be solved soon.

Uzor, you're pretty much telling people that are PAYING for a service that they're not receiving to suck it up because it's obviously our fault because everyone doesn't have the same problem. I've phoned my ISP twice now to see if theres anything I can do. There isn't. The fact that EVERYTHING else works fine with my computer/connection obviously means that it's doing it's job. I can even Connect to POL. My problem is I can't connect to FFXI. Now, I pay for 1 service through SE - a service I can't access yet am still paying for. Do you see the problem here?

Good for you that you've had this problem before - as have I, however it hasn't ever lasted a week. I pay for 4 weeks of service every month from SE give or take a few hours for an update every now and then, I have now lost close to a 1/4 of my monthly fee. I'm essentially tossing my money away. What you don't seem to comprehend with this "Well it's your ISP" thing you're trying to drill in is that SEs product is the ONLY thing not working and it worked before the update.

The theater example isn't a far fetched senario considering you're pretty much just saying that "well it's your ISP so it's your fault because others and I aren't having this problem - so keep paying up, I'm sure a solution will present itself."

DC'ing when you click off a buff is even admitted by the guy that created the status icons, a fault on his side.

However, my suggestion is STILL, as I've said before, ot perform a file check. Because this might have been a long existing problem that isn't directly noticable untill now. You might have got your files corrupted while downloading the update because the problem existed before that. Thus, when it reads that corrupt .dat file, the game DC'd you. SE programmed thir game so that if it reads a non-existant file, or a corrupted file, the game kicks you off. So naturally, if the problem existed there before, when you download files from the update, the bottleneck or w/e caused the files to get corrupted. And later, when you read the file, the game kicks you off because its corrupt. That would also explain why people don't have the same problems, only similar.

Yo help eachother out, you could do like the Swedish guys. List what your ISP is, what your tracert to the playonline server is, where you live (state or w/e), and where/what the problems occur

I'm sorry but that's a pretty damn big coincidence if their update had nothing to do with people's current issues. How exactly can you explain the timing if the update had nothing to do with it?

You assume we're all idiots that can't do anything ourselves Uzor. I've run a complete file check on both FFXI and POL, I've contacted customer service via a GM call and a phone call, I've phoned my ISP twice now, but obviously it wasn't the updates fault at all - no no no no, everything with the update is fine - it's totally on my end.

Needs more sarcasm. Lol

I'll say it again, I know what your problem is. If you'd actually read my posts you'd see that I've explained several times I had the very same problem.

And I'm not telling you to suck it up. I'm telling you to do a bit of the work yourself. Everyone don't need to have the same ISP for the problem to occur if its a bottleneck somewhere. It simply requires your packages to be sent through the place where the bottleneck occurs and you'll DC. That's why I suggested you to do a tracert.

All I'm simply telling you is that its most likely as SE says, nothing they can do fro mtheir office.

Good for you that you've had this problem before - as have I, however it hasn't ever lasted a week. I've already said several times that yes, I'm wel laware the problem is with FFXI only. I had the very same problem. Only the tiems it did for me, it lasted months at a time. The most it lasted was 3 months. 3 months.

The theater example isn't a far fetched senario considering you're pretty much just saying that "well it's your ISP so it's your fault because others and I aren't having this problem - so keep paying up, I'm sure a solution will present itself."
It is a far fethced scenarion. Because the movie is viewed on the theatre. The movie itself is in the theatre. Thus, hte problem lies with the theatre since theu have the problem in their building.

If its a backbone problem somewhere in, say, russia, then the problem isn't in their own building. Thus, its much harder to do soemthing about. Especialyl when the problem can be anywhere in the world, as opposed to the room behind you like in a theatre. Which is why you need to figure out WHERE the problem is to help them out.

thats what im saying =/ uzors attempts to justify his responces through the constant repeating of himself by saying "it's not SE's fault" doesnt prove that its not SE's fault...i will repeat myself...none of these people had problems prior to the update

I haven't once said the problem was on your end. I've said it maybe 10 times now. Its most likely outside your ISP, PoL and your own house. If its a bottleneck problem, then that means its outside of your house. Exactly how many times have I said this now? I haven't once accused the problem to be you. You just assume that's what I'm saying because you refuse to read what Iactually say. You'd much rather jump to conclusions, very much similar to wht you're doign with accusing SE for having the problem.

Sorry big U but I think this is SE's problem too.

I'm a troubleshooting dork for a living. The first question I ask when a problem pops up is "What changed?".

In this situation the only part that has changed is FFXI.

I will repeat myself... not everyone have the problem.

Your attempts to justify your responce by saying "none of these people had the problem prior to the update" doesn't prove its SE's fault.

And Sab, there's a reason customer service assume people are idiots. I know, because I've worked with customer service myself. And a majority of the time, people ARE idiots. No offense ment to you, but that's the way it is. I once had someone cuss me out because, on one of the pictures, the model was wearing a piece of clothing we didn't sell ourselves. He demanded we edited it out, because he wanted to buy it and we didn't have it.

did I mention this particular piece of clothing was a wrist watch?

So maybe its me having worked in a similar situation myself, but believe me when I say, there's more morons out there than one might think. The majority of the people that call to complain are morons and idiots. It really makes me lose faith in humanity. I don't even want to imagine what its like working in a larger company, like SE. So I can fully understand customer service treating everyone like they're idiots.
