POL NEWS : Battle System Improvements (02/22/2008)

So I like how they are fixing the music 5 years later, when a lot of people just turn the music off in this game ;|

No, they just basically said 'Use it at your own risk'.

also to add that when SE released their own windower that it'd take awhile to implement all the features that the 3rd party one has because they don't know how to atm(lol).

Yes, this and battle music is better than sound crapping out in Mt Zayolm's Flan camp. Sometimes you stop hearing the sound of you spells and it's annoying. At least you will have the battle music.

No you wont. You need someone engaged onto the mob to get the music, and I dont think you're gonna engage on blm.

People still play FFXI with sounds enabled?

I muted all sounds. Although occasionally I can play with sound effects, but never music. Unless I'm in a new area, or an area where I like the music, or a CS. Those are the few exceptions when I have music enabled.

I really like the music CoP+. Zilart's music is iffy, and the original game's music is pretty shitty with a couple exceptions (Heaven's Tower <3)

They never said this.

They said they wanted to add one or two more of the reuse timers, but couldn't find a way to integrate it with the UI, if I recall correctly. If anything, it's probably a PS2-related issue, always is.

They're probably never going to implement "all" of the features of windower, since a decent number of them are cheats, and not what was intended.

Oh, and stop calling it a "windower". It always bothers me when someone says "SE windower"... it's just a windowed mode.

Holy hell finally being able to have music as a caster??? SWEEETTT!!! Being able to keep the same macros no matter if i use my Xbox360, PS2 or PC??? THANK YOU SE!!!! Why did it take them 4 years to figure our the /tell chime idea and 5 years to figure out that mages need battle music loving too??? YAY

This should make kiting a bit more ... exciting. Or for those BLMs/RDMs who DoT/sleep nuke things to death.

Garvin's correct. SE never said they don't know how to add them. They simply said they couldn't find a good way TO implement it with the current UI.

However, SE also stated that they are considering reworking the UI, and possibly allowing the users to modify their own UI. So probably allowing users to select themselves what shows on the screen, etc.

That's not what they said. They stated that you will get the music even if not engaged.

I, as a back line job mage, rather enjoy not hearing music all the time while partying XD I hope they give us the option to turn off battle music.

Um... Tyrath is correct:

For the next version update, however, our programmers have been working hard to make improvements to the battle music system become reality. These adjustments should allow battle music to play if you are within the vicinity of a party member currently engaged with an enemy, even if you yourself have not executed the "attack" command. This way, even those who play with long range attack characters such as mages, will not have to miss out on an essential atmospheric element in the game. While it may not be possible to account for all scenarios, due to the nearly limitless ways in which battles can be initiated; we believe this will improve things significantly.

Again, you don't have to be engaged, but someone in your party does for it to work.

*points to my above post* lol

Don't you love how misleading SE's updates tend to be? Get you hopes up and they are dashed in an instant?

Good job SquareEnix.

id think youd be used to it by now :)

personally, ive never played with any sound lol, I just listened to music while I played. i think id lost my mind if I didnt do that.

Well I changed my .dats to better music, so at least it will be more bearable, until the music I have now just gets annoying.

Doesn't sound like they're implementing any improvements to me... More like annoyances. I personally don't even have FFXI game music on it, it gets so stale. I don't want battle music when I'm casting on mobs. That's one of the perks for being a mage.
