Heh assuming those 18 IP addresses aren't composed of his vote from his home comp, school comp, and maybe some of his friend's comps. Not to mention he can just IP spoof.

Unlike a regular web page poll, the votes with a phpBB are registered per account. You shouldn't be able to vote twice with the same account. If you can something is wrong with the poll.php

2. Meeze and i have gone round for round on a couple boards, so i can say with realitve comfort he/she(again i'm not positive) is not a dumbass. To answer your question, no i've never broken the law by giving something away that wasen't mine. You fail.
3. You've said twice now you contacted local law enforcement, once you mentioned it without know what to call them:

I found Article 3.2 & 4 quite compelling from a prosecutory standpoint. Lemme break it down for you in small words so you understand it:
Article 3.2: Don't expect us to go to court for or against you.
Article 4: you break the agreement in a situation having to do with other users, fuck you we don't care it's on you.

which negates prosecution on either end from the thief or the User in Violation of Contract. The most you could hope for is a ban, and since none of this can be proven indefinately you're boned. Which SE and local law enforcement/lawyer would have told you if you'd bothered to contact them.

Do us all a favor and accept that you got jacked while doing something silly and either have the account banned or shut up. Regardless of your opinion my feelings on what's right don't distort the laws or the agreements you signed on to with SE.

SE cares to make their cash off of the account, and to try to enforce TOS/ROC, the problem with your whole argument is character data in an MMO is intellectual property of the company that hosts the servers, in other words.. your character is not yours, it is SEs.

You can't take him to court, because you were trying to sell something that was not yours(the intellectual property of SquareEnix).

Again, you're trying to sell something that isn't yours by law. The thing you agree to says it is not yours. So when SquareEnix is brought into it, they will show the document. When you click Accept each time you enter the game you agree to it. So when that happens your case is nullified.
Now.. as far as SE goes, they *can* ban the account, because they give themselves the right to do that for any reason, even without notifying the player. However you also agree that you will never attempt to transfer the account, since it is more or less just a lease on server space that you pay 12.95 a month for. This is in no way meant to be rude, or a "flame" it's just the way things are based on what you've agreed to every time you play the game.

If you were going to go through with selling something that wasn't yours in the first place, you should not have given out the account information so he could "look". He can either trust what you say, or if as you say he was a rl friend, he could come over and look. When you gave out the data to access your account is where you really screwed up for this in all honesty, this sort of "scam" has been around since people got the idea to sell MMO accounts. You were too trusting, and now you will pay the price.

Your local law enforcement won't be able to do much, the best you might get is the account banned by SE.. but you will have to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is your account. If you reveal to them that you gave out the login information they will just ban it forthwith and you'll never see the character again.
