Poor New players I feel for them.

I dunno, I level jobs to lvl 20 solo now a days at around 1 lvl an hour with exp ring. Its too damn easy now, which is good from a standpoint of getting people hooked. Back in the day lvling to 12 would be about my stopping point on soloing.

Not to mention, fields of valor. What a great addition for the newbies. I dont feel bad for them at all, they have it made now a days.

I think you miss what I was getting at here.

Newbie in the past: had community and bustling city to adventure into. Community was key to my impressions first made of the game.

Newbie now: You are alone. Sure you can solo your way. Sure its easyer on a gameplay aspect. But did you pay 12.99 a month for a experience in an mmo to be done by yourself and lack of people to meet as you start out. NO... The first impression would be "where are the people?"

I pity them because of that fact that there is no community you can see and or interact with when you first install and try this game now. At the same time because of that lack of people in "sandoria, windurst, bastok" your AH is limited and so is your chances to meet people and talk with them ..and learn.

I keep seeing I think they are lucky because they can solo this or that...is that really a good thing when you join an mmo to be part of the massive online community and not find it? that is why i say Poor newbies.

The impact of lack of people is across many aspects for a newbie. People to learn from. People to hang with. AH stocked and LS's to join. The feeling of community. The entire social structure is not there on your arrival to this game today. You won't find it till you reach JTown. I wonder how many new players closed the game down because of lack of community in early stages vs gameplay? Im sure there must be many that did.

Anyway im not trying to debate this just saying how sad it is now for them guys nowadays, when you consider how active and social towns where compared to now. That is all.

My wife is a new player and I have started to level a new job and have had the problem of having to go to Jeuno to buy really low level gear. This is something we the player base can address. Those of us who can move to Jeuno fairly ease also have the ability to return to our home nations just the same. If the gear you are wishing to sell is below level 20 and not a 20k plus item. Please put it up on a home nation Auction House. Most of us have mules in the home nations, so it does not really require much of our time to do it.

For those who say everything you need until level 20 is at the NPCs. Protectra is a drop only item and I have already ran into a small number new white mages in the dunes who didn’t have it because it was not on the AH. Thankfully I had several from farming in Giddeus, so I gave them away.

Thats what I've done with gear that I didn't nead anymore, I would put it in the auction house in Windurst. I also lowered the price cause it was hard finding gear for me cause alot of people seemed to raise the price. I am very lucky and grateful to the wonderful people in my linkshell who have been taking care of me and I will never take that for granted. The least I can do is make it easier for future players.

That was me about a week ago. I'm by no means a new player, but my character is brand new while I'm in the process of trying to get my old one back. If it weren't for the donations of friends I don't know how I would have gotten by. It's weird going from feeling like 1mil is barely getting by to only having 2k to my name.

Go to any mmorpg the same happens to new players it takes them time to adapt to the world they are in and the towns are busy at different times I find, weekends or event times, not everyone is standing around town waiting to roll out the welcome wagon lol.

See I dont get this, you dont need any higher level gear than 20 max in the towns really so going to Jeuno is a natural progression in the game, I always have no problem finding gear for leveling below 18 in the AH in towns (or npc stores) its cheaper at Jeuno yes but thats cause everyone is unloading their old gear for 20+ stuff there.

I keep seeing I think they are lucky because they can solo this or that...is that really a good thing when you join an mmo to be part of the massive online community and not find it? that is why i say Poor newbies.
Or someone see's you solo some tough mob and thinks 'wow! I got to get this person in my linkshell, they're awesome!" You know that going outside and doing stuff gets you a chance to meet others moreso than hanging out in town waiting for help.

By going outside into the big world you will get your chance to interact with people, this game is based on participation you get what you put into it, help is there too if people need it just try asking.

Anyway im not trying to debate this just saying how sad it is now for them guys nowadays, when you consider how active and social towns where compared to now. That is all.
Thats why you have the noob noddle or ? above your brand new head in the game, for 6 levels or I forget how many game hours you have this 'help me' sign above your precious head. Many a person I know has given one of those wandering ?'s a helping hand or contact with a social linkshell that can guide them.

Or they could just try shouting in town, theres a good way to get attention. :)

I think quite a few people are missing the point here. It's not how easy the game has become starting out with all the new resources for travel and experience, it's how empty and boring it is compared to when most of us started 5 years ago.

And buying gear from NPCs isn't all that practical because it's either too expensive for newbies (crystals don't sell for as much as they used to) or it's not available because of their nation having a low rank in the conquest system.

Or SE puts together all AHs.
No more Sandy/Rabao, Bastok/Norg, Windy/Khazam crap.
Simply Jeuno AH accessible everywhere.

Not only will this make it easier for new players that want to get some gear that is useful above level 7, but it also makes it a hell of a lot easier to PL crafts on mules without spending a fortune getting them either an airship pass or having to log the main every time I need something from a vendor somewhere else as the AH in the specific location where I am leveling the craft ran out of goods I need...

I do agree though that SE has done a lot for newer players.
Moogles in Selbina and Mhaura is one of them for example.

I like this idea, but what would SE do with all the items in the various different AHs? Should they be returned free of charge? I mean, some things are more profitable to sell in starting cities, i know i overpayed for somethings there instead of checking jeuno

it also might help if Se would give more then 50 gil to start with. some of the npc gear is pricey for someone who is just starting out. 4-5k might not seem like alot for a whole set of gear but when you dont have much more then that it is.

Field of valors reward good amounts ofgils. I Did it once, a training regime at level 18, got 2k gil reward for 30 minutes of work.

well I realise there may be fewer people making it harder to do some things as a low lvl, lvling is just sooooooo much easier now I don't think you can compare things.

here's a list of all the things making lvling easier now that I could think of.
exp rings
FoV(good money and bonus exp for low lvls)
signet boost (used to be you had to decide between hp/mp and tp)
sigil/sanction exp boost
campaign/besieged
lvl sync (THIS IS HUGE)
the change so easy prey now give much much more exp (like X3)

and you complain about having fewer other low lvls to talk with and what not, well true and definately a disadvantage, perhaps they all became high lvl well you were busy typing your last response, lvling really is that fast and easy now, just this afternoon(few hours) I lvled blu 48->53, 1 lvl solo and the other 4 in a lvl sync PT (and most of us did not have lvl cap gear but it was still really fast).

ffxi has never been friendly to those starting out, heck I died 3 times before I figured out I was suposed to use this stone scroll in my inventory, lol. I would definately take the much easier lvling today to having more people to trade with and talk to especially since you can PT with anyone in the game who's willing to PT thanks to lvl sync.

You have a point here, and maybe the towns are a lot deader because this game isnt really very high-profile anymore, I dont know if anyone has any stats on the number of new players signing up each week to this game but I bet its dropped.

Last time i recall the towns were busy was the Xbox launch and crystals were selling for 8k a 12pk and mithakabobs 27k a doz on the AH. Yes the towns were busy and full of people trying to get PL'd and helped so they could get the hell outta towns and off to the big city of Jeuno.

I imagine most new players to this game are coming cause they know somebody already playing, thus they have their support structure already in place, there is also so much information out there on this game since 2003 the new player can be a lot more informed before even taking a step out of town.

Exactly the point. Unless you were here on PC launch I dont think you can relate to my point. It seems many have missed it.

All I have to say is try starting the game not knowing anyone on xbox with NO browsing options/no pc.

Thanks to everyone to lends a helping hand to newbies as we were all one. I remember having to ask where I could fight.

Cool.. I am reluctant to just randomly help ? player because of my fear of being scammed.

I figure I just start stocking Sandoria AH now. So I have been crafting bone gear for them. Its quickly flying off the AH to...

One thing the new players could use is the mentor function. We have hundreds of players who are mentors. They are supposed to be there to help players with questions. I used to be one until Xbox got ffxi. When that happened I was spammed with Random Xboxernoob "Excuse me, can you PL me?" Keryan "That is not what a mentor is for. If you have a question I can answer if I know the answer." Random Xboernoob "You can help me by PLing me" Needless to say I figured if this was all they wanted a mentor for they could go be blown up by a goblin bomb and stay at nooby level.

I have helped many random starting players just by seeing their /shout all over. Try to take a day to just talk to all the NPC's and do quests. I got a lot of stuff free when I started 5ish years ago.

Speaking as an experienced player starting from ground up all over again, I do see how hard it is for new players to start off in this game. You start the game with no linkshell, left without nothing. No friends..you're all alone.

Everything was dandy until I had to travel to Qufim Isle for exp. The reason I say this is, you're stuck leveling your subjob on another region than your main job. Yes, you can get a chocobo..but that quest takes a while and have to do a lot of hoofing. Chocobo tracks in La Theine Plateau from Jeuno can be a hike.

Just my 2 cents.

DannyDevito is right, especially when it comes to healing jobs, nobody is playing the dunes the reg way, theres no room for non DD jobs atm (guess this is what i get for choosing whm and rdm first as possible bst subs or full rdm/whm), i have help from some of my friends but i cant always depend on getting plvl or enough people lvl synch so low, i got rdm 10-19 in a couple of hours thanks to my shell and some friends, but whm i had to solo all the way till 17 so far, and whm solo is nightmare

getting to jeuno is kinda easy now with the 3 tickets u get for choco ride for the new adventurer quest, just pick one in a crag since it will drop you fast, and get as close to jeuno, i have plenty of experience avoiding aggro so even if the choco drops you early you can sitll do it

Uh, we all did it, why can't they?

Why do things have to be dumbed down for new players to make it easier?

Chocobo on the Loose is not a requirement to gain a license. The first time you speak to Brutus, you'll get that. You have to speak to him a few more times before he'll give you the right quest, A Chocobo's Wounds.

Shit. It' been so long since I did my license for my first character. Then I retract my statement from before lol.
