I started on the xbox beta server. You think that having only a few items on AH in home cities is bad, try going to Jeuno and there not being anything on AH or anyone around. I remember going there for my first time and walking through Lower Jeuno. I seen 1 person, and that's only because he went to the wrong choco stables for his license.
Seriously though, it's not that bad being alone at the start. Why do we want a bunch of spoon fed ninny's at level 75? Learn how to take care of things yourself, that's what the lower levels are for.
The lower level gear on AH. What the hell for? There is a vendor/quest for gear for every job up to 20. That's where I bought/received all my gear for all the jobs I leveled on the beta server and beyond. I had no other option. There were only a couple, if any, crafters to craft gear, weapons, or any other sort of things. Food? I was eating kazham pineapples for the int boost because there were no pies I could afford, only the ones from the guild.
On that server we were just like the original launch except that there were websites we could go to, IF, we knew about them. Resting to full HP/MP after every pull. Exp Chain? WTF is that?
I wouldn't change it for the world though. I learned to farm and craft which made me pretty much self supportive now. 3 crafting mules, + my main.
I do agree that it's nice to have people around to ask questions, but there is no better teacher than your own mistakes.
Peace,
Shmed
