Posts concerning drug use

When I was younger, I got into whatever I wanted. My parents had no say, ultimately, in what I would do. I did some stupid shit, to be certain, but so did most kids. My parents gave me pretty good tools to make my own decisions, because they realized that it will be me making my own decisions. They are there to help and guide. A parent's role is not a hawk. They should not act like one. Your kids will find out about drugs in many, many, many ways as they mature. It will be up to them, with parental guidance, to make up their own minds.

It's very possible for people to mention something about drug use on an Internet forum, and yet still lead productive and meaningful lives. Every drug user is not a complete junkie. I'd agree that if people come on talking about hard drugs and additive substances, as if to promote them, there's an issue. If they come on to share an experience they enjoyed, such as beating mario while high, I don't see a problem. It's perhaps juvenile, but it isn't a problem.

We are talking about drug use which, again, for the majority of the users of this board is illegal whether you like that fact or not.

It's also illegal (in the more civilized states) to drink under the age of 21. That happens and kids talk it up just the same. Yet, that illegal activity never seems to be scrutinized in the same way as, say, smoking a bowl.

Here's my take on the information aspect brought up by Mielle.

Kids will find out about drugs. You can't stop it, don't even think you can. Your job is to Educate your children about them, and truthfully. Don't just try and say "drugs are the devils trick!" or somthing equally weighted, because when they do find out about them (and remember, if they want to they will) then they'll find out you were either lying, or didn't even know anything about them and were just afraid of them without basis.

Safe education with real facts will always be a better choice than fearmongering.

I hear you. But I also don't see posts with people talking about advocating binge drinking and photographs of funnel parties at frat houses either. Unless I missed them.

That 'Groovy new drug' thread is actually in the vein of what I approve of, even though it had an air of 'aren't I cool?' to it.

Bragging because you've done a drug is ridiculous, and has no place on our forum. The reason, though, isn't becasue it's a bad influence. If that were the case, we'd have to ban mention of alcohol, tobacco, gambling, and any other [debatably] decadent activity. I simply disapprove on the same grounds that I disapprove of BBT. It's fucking retarded.

Drugs have a terrible stigma, that I don't think they all deserve. Believe it or not, there are intelligent things to say about drugs, and the experiences they can entitle. Drugs can really hurt you, even destroy your life if taken out of hand. Given that fact, I understand the concern with young minds being exposed. But you know what? Excessive eating can destroy your life, too. As can an MMORPG, and a plethora of other things we don't immedietly condemn.

I'll state bluntly, I'm not necessarily defending drug use, I'm defending the right to talk about it.

The fact is, that a young person is going be exposed to drugs. At some point in their life, they will, and they will be tempted to use them. The popular belligerant, blanket solution of pretending drugs don't exist is not going to aid these kids in making responsible decisions.

We shouldn't tolerate posts that blatently advocate drug use because it's the 'thing to do.' We should promote a nonbiased, informative environment to aid people in making the best decisions for themselves.

Edit: I didn't read anything after the third page, haha. Kill me if it's been said.

I've seen some here at QCDN over the years. Kids will either become loser burnouts or make something of themselves. It's their choice, ultimately, and they will find any information they want on the Internet.

Agreed. I only question the sense of finding something like that here. I do hear all of you guys I just feel as I mentioned before that people should discuss whatever they choose just do so with some responsibilty. Just my personal feeling, however little weight it carries.

I'm not a parent and I say that's bullshit. You're asking something that's impossible to justify posting things regarding substances that are illegal in many places across the world (including the places most people who frequent these forums are from). You're kidding yourself to think that way, but that's your opinion and your business.

I will admit that I have abnormally high standards for parenting, but they are the standards I expect for myself to live up to. I don't expect others to do the same, hell, I'd be suprised if they did. I disagree with how most parents raise their children, but I don't try to force them to do it my way.

And don't give me the censorship garbage. Everyone seems to think free speech comes with no responsibility. I disagree. As I said, talk about whatever the hell you want. But label it. That isn't censorship, that's responsibility. I said label it clearly so people can opt not to go there. That isn't asking too much.

If something needs to be relabeled, I don't really care on way or the other, it's the conversation within that I am talking about. Thread titles matter not to me.

And we are not talking about religion, which is legal. We are talking about drug use which, again, for the majority of the users of this board is illegal whether you like that fact or not.

While possesion of/using the drug is illegal, talking about past experiences is not. Except in school. Teachers can tell you about the bad side of drugs, but they can't mention religion at all.

I think I myself add a level of responsibility to discussions on any drugs. I have first hand experience with a lot of things, good and bad, because I like recreational drugs. I also think if someone is curious and not scared, there are certain drugs they should try and others they shouldn't. I know drugs are not for everyone, but there is no need in allowing the misinformation to continue to spread. I have info, and in relation to free speech, I think I am being responsible by sharing it.

Anybody here related to a drug addict? Or friends with a drug addict?
Is being quiet. Hush hush. Not talking about the problem the way you went about solving it?

How about sex? You never talked to your kids (if you have them) about sex?
Is being quiet. Hush hush. Not telling them to use a condom etc.... the way you went about solving that problem?

You'll never stop young people from talking about things you don't want them to talk about. Hiding from a problem or pretending it dosen't exist doesn't help them, it just means they have to go else where for the information. And else where is usualy some dumb idiot advocating the bad behavior your trying to avoid.

You can only educate them before they learn to do it the wrong way. And after you educate them properly you shouldn't have to worry. And if you still worry, then you arn't doing enough, do more@!

If you really care, speak up! Make the voice against drugs louder than the voice for it.

Use of language is something very common and socially used, even in schools. To try and argue such, that language carries common footing on the argument that soliciting drug use as "Cool" or "Awesome" is just as conventionally bad, is probably the most loose-mouthed thing I've ever read. If you like arguing that much, fine, but take it elsewhere. This was a productive discussion with people that agreed, and disagreed on the topic, and if you don't have more to add, then don't.

Are you serious? No don't worry, i'm not arguing, you are obviously insane tho.....
Foul language like that shows a negative attitude, or negative iQ. I will not take it elsewhere i feel my opinion is extremely valid. It is not my fault that you do not agree, and can not handle your anger. I do however agree with Zyn, maybe a warning at the main page, that these threads contain foul language, and drug references. Being a parent myself, I think it would be obvious that this game is a pot head magnet. Think about it, hours of entertainment that requires minimal movement! lol... I really don't think there is a way to control when and where a child will read about pot, acid, rolls, shrooms, ect.... but yes, maybe a warning is in order for main page so at least we give those crazies a chance to block the site! lol

While I do respect your opinion concerning the nature of profane language, and to a certain extent agree, there is a fine line in the regard. I am not a huge, regular user of profanity, because yes, it is to an extent, vulgar when not used appropriately. I have to disagree with you, however, in the regard that "foul language shows a foul attitude". Think about it very carefully.

In the paragraph before, in which you so hastily stated that my use of the word "fucking" in a sentence showed low-class abrasiveness and an abhorent lack of respect for any younger reader, you were wrong, and I still feel you are. Use of any profane word cannot be immediately confined or classified as showing anger, it can, and in my case, is used in contemporary terms to express a strong argument to the fact. Be more well rounded, I'm not going to sit here in my chair and type a long diatribe on how wrong I think you are, but I will strongly express that in many intelligent people's perspective, a proper use of language, not to say the the language is proper itself - is perfectly befitting to a well-rounded argument. I don't use profanity in vulgar ways, and I think you need a little reality check if seeing the word "Fuck" or "Damn" or gee, even "Hell", gives you the squirmies. True, true uses of profane words, can be seen from a person that has only known people to use it in such ways to make it common-place. Fuck this and fuck that, suddenly after a time, it's all they begin to hear. Ask any military man. The lack of intelligence followed by this language is astounding.

As far as the topic pertaining to my insanity, why, I certainly hope there's a touch of insanity in me. Being a writer, it's hard not to have it, and personally, I thank you for taking special time and care to notice.

On another note, though, while horribly misguided about use of profane diction, you are however, correct about one thing. A warning should be in order for any excessive use of language, be it verbal abuse, drug use, or anything else, the entire point of the thread!

However, again, you're misguided about another thing. There are means, and avenues, to prevent kids from experimenting, learning, seeing, and even being around the environment that contains drug use! It's called parenting! While some may not agree, that's how I stand on that, and I know many others do as well! I find it offensive even that you dignify such behavior as common place, a norm, or even a habit.

Now, to reinstate what I said earlier, I don't hold anyone that personally chooses to use drugs in contempt. Using drugs does not mean you are a horrible person, or that you're going nowhere in life. It only means such if such a person becomes addicted to the point where they cannot carry out a normal, functioning life . You tell me sir, tell me right now, where profanity fits in that? Has my use of language permanently disabled you? No, right? Do you even know why? Because you have more intelligence than the average lemming, sir. You know when, and when not to talk like that. You don't see it as a fad, as something to do around anybody and everybody. Similarly, the same principle goes with drugs, however , think about how common and readily available profanity is. It comes from your mouth for peetes sake. It doesn't alter your brain chemistry for any extended period of time, it doesn't do anything but show that the person using it, especially in horrendous excess or in righteous misuse, is either low-class, or doesn't know anybetter, and sometimes both. The avenue for drugs is entirely different, and there's no way in hell (Site me on that one, give me some effervescense here) even people that have spoken here that tenderly indulge in drug use, be it light or heavy, can disagree with that! They'll tell you as well, exactly how it is!

I've been reading this thread for a while now, but just been trying to keep out of it. Well... I found a point where I can put in my say:

The rate I sent to Kelyon in MND? Explain please. I never mentioned weed or any sort of smoking in that thread, he was the one that brought it up so I replied to him with a rate up saying that I enjoy doing it a lot.

In the beginning I was against what Mistra said, but then again I could be just high and don't understand what you even mean. Just to get to the point. There will always be people for censorship and also for freedom of speech.

Best thing you can do since censorship basically doesn't win... is talk to your kids, educate them with what you know about drugs, sex and drinking. Talk to them about everything you know. If you don't know anything about them for whatever reason.. don't just tell them its bad. Go pick up a book, learn about it too. Then repeat the first step: educate them.

Also, weed has never made me lazy. I am working, I just recently got my own place, every other day I cook, I go swimming basically everyday, I spend time with my girl, been taking care of kittens ever since they were born and been finding time to play FFXI. I don't think I'm lazy.

You work, cook, swim, spend time with your girl, take care of kittens, AND have time for ffxi?! Jesus christ!!

This, I felt, was extremely pertinent, and widely said thus far from those concerned in the topic. Yes, completely censoring drugs out of the daily lives of young people or impressionable teenagers does nothing to educate them out of it. But lets be serious here, how could anything be completely censored in the first place? You're right, it's that lack of knowledge that deems itself appealing and thus you've actually stumbled onto the point you arbitrarily stated you weren't sure you understood.

Think about it nice and hard. Think about those you go to school with, those around you, those that indulge in the non-medicinal habit you all-too well inform everyone of. You understand the risks involved. But what about others? How about those curious about it, that may or may not have a stance on whether they should or shouldn't use it? Have you properly advocated a yes or no in this case? Say you get the casual player here, surfing through the "Good Times" area for a good read, and they fall upon your "I beat mario high!!!!" thread. They open it up, they see the paraphanalea in the picture you posted. They see you so overly excited about beating the video game. But more importantly, they see you having fun . Now, the average person with a right mind about what they do and don't want to do would look at that post you made, and either write you off as an idiot, firsthand, based off of the behavior exhibited, or find it funny. Funny enough that it starts reinforcing whether or not they want to do this, without the given research behind it first. It's probably illegal, they know, but hell, you're having fun with it, and aren't in trouble for posession, so they should be just fine, right? Right? Chances are, that thought process isn't even there. You're improperly advocated that using drugs is fun, and completely harmless. Healthwise, sure, Marijuana is extremely mild, but what about the law? How good of a start would it be for someone to have that kind of misdemeanor on their record, be it minor or not? "Hey guys, I've been in jail once for drug abuse." Not exactly a statement that your well-rounded, intelligent community really wants to hear, is it? That statement even causes pertinent, important initial judgement of a person, because, like it or not, people judge out there. And most of the time, those that do it, are people that can or can't make your working life or career happen or not happen. There's more than just health issues or morality, there's a certain legal aspect that people need to consider as well.

Now, Chuash, I have nothing personal against you, and I don't want you to deem this as an attack. It's merely a response. You're right, absolute censorship cannot take place, because not only is it impossible, it's also detrimental to mental growth in areas of decision making and becoming a proper adult in a child or teenager. However, I look at your previous action, and although this is just a forum for people that play a video game, or don't, depending on the person, it's still just as pertinent. My initial post was concerned for the younger public, and it still is, in the respect that quite a few young adults are too impressionable for their own good, be it from lack of parental guidance or just from lack of intelligence, and I really think it's detrimental to allow support or showing, or approval of drug use. That's just me though, and a few others on here. There's been good, logical disagreements, and agreements in this regard, and it's been an interesting topic, especially for me, since it's allowed me to view both opinions.

Agreed. I only question the sense of finding something like that here. I do hear all of you guys I just feel as I mentioned before that people should discuss whatever they choose just do so with some responsibilty. Just my personal feeling, however little weight it carries.

Idealistically I pretty much agree. I'd also agree that people should show responsibility in every area of their lives, but it's just never going to happen. Posts of drugs here at QCDN, in the form of a constructive discussion can be of value. Posts of, "I just got lit, and I am kewl" are worthless, I'd agree. Are they a real problem though? I'd say no. Believe me, I find it pretty annoying. I find lots of things pretty annoying. This is really no big deal though. Someone making a jackass post about mentioning they just got drunk or high is lame but it isn't causing any problems. If a kid reads something like that and then goes and gets high, there's no way he can blame the post for his decision to get high. It was his decision.

That reminds me of the assholes that go out and kill someone and then blame music/movies/games, etc... Then that unimportant dipshit that always spouts off about Grand Theft Auto being the cause for a shooting chimes in. His points are not relevant. He is not relevant. QCDN plays no role in dictating other people's decisions. They carry no responsibility here. If some fuck up is going to make bad decisions, QCDN has absolutely nothing to do with it. Much the same as Grand Theft Auto has absolutely nothing to do with real murder cases.

I think the bottom line is that people need to live their own lives and stop trying to dictate how others should be living theirs. Even if other people make bad decisions, even if it is as serious as something like murder, well, that's their decision to make. We know what happens to murderers, and we know that QCDN has nothing to do with it. Nor did they hold any responsibility in creating a murderer...Or drug user. Care for, and educate those close to you. Perhaps even make a thread highlighting some reasons why drugs are bad, m'kay? Ultimately, everyone makes their own bed and has to lie in it. If anyone feels like "helping", this is a forum for discussion. Offer up an idea that may shape people's actions. It's better than passing the buck and putting ownership on QCDN, which has no ownership of people's RL decisions. Accountability is on the individual. By "allowing" discussion of drugs on QCDN, this forum is simply "allowing" free speech. No matter how juvenile I find some posts here, I'd rather people be free to make them, than constricted because some admin puts their personal beliefs first.

See: Sculli.

He cared too much. So much that he was the biggest Nazi this forum has known. I sincerely hope QCDN never starts locking down people's thoughts and ability to post as they please like Sculli did. Mods still have the ability to lock threads, ban users, and mention to the community why they have done so. Those are all the tools they need. There are consequences to individual's actions, but you need to allow an individual to make their own choices.

Everyone should read this twice. I completely agree with Mr. Pants here.

Think about it this way, for every one person saying they lit up and did something stupid, there are 5 others who learn from this and laugh at them and make a deal with themselves that they won't do that drug. Problem Solved!

Agreed and well said.

I find it highly amusing that it's okay to post topics about illegal activities such as drug use, topics relating to downloading, filesharing, etc are immediately locked and deleted/edited.

well

Ok, cool, then my opinion is in, we should post at top of main page that there is explicit material in this forum, and not "Delete/Edit" posts that pertain to drug use. That is all i have on this subject.
