Pre-Order the Sony Blu-Ray disc player!! (Note: Also plays games!)

Um...Toshiba invented HD, not Microsoft. Sure Microsoft uses HD, but it's the only other High Def format besides Blu-ray. Toshiba also has their name on the Cell processor in PS3.

I know Toshiba is invested in HD-DVD. My point is there "stubbornness" has as much to do with this "horrible" format war as Philips or Sony are yet the only company to get any flack is Sony. I know MS wasn't involved in the creation of HD-DVD I was just stating that they obviously would back the format that would give them the most benefit with assisting there competition the least.

I don't think you realize that if not for MS there'd only be one format right now. There was a split-off over specs of the HD format years before they both launched. Sony wanted to add copyright protection and Microsoft wanted it to be streaming so that the format would actually push Vista. The Studios said they wanted copy protection, aligned with Sony... MS decided to go to the battlefield.

Microsoft never developed the technology. That would be Toshiba, who seems to have a hand in everything like IBM.

Wow, the Sony Fanboys sure are fucking retarded. You guys lose, I'm sorry. Microsoft had absolutely nothing to do with HD-DVD's development. The only thing Microsoft did with HD-DVD, was make the attachment drive for 360.

Just.. wow. I really have no idea how you two came up with the idea that it's Microsoft's format. But you guys sure do look like idiots trying to say it is.

I'm hoping you aren't throwing me into the "you two". I never said MS developed HD-DVD. I think your reading comprehension is either lacking or you can't stop your fingers from typing before your brain finishes processing.

My whole point in posting was to point out that for three companies being involved in the format war (Toshiba, Sony, Philips) only Sony seems to ever get beaten up for participating.

Here I will quote myself:

I know MS wasn't involved in the creation of HD-DVD I was just stating that they obviously would back the format that would give them the most benefit with assisting there competition the least.

That is just common sense, no?

I own, and play, all 3 "next gen" systems.

Firestreak and Marajade are the two. The people blinded so awfully by customer loyalty, they're masochistic for Sony's awful marketing and public relations.

No to be honest you just don't know all the details about what's going on in the format war. Like the 2005 talks between Sony and Toshiba to try and form a unified format - and Microsoft at the table making demands of Blu-ray that would be impossible thanks to copy protection they implemented. Microsoft's subsidizing HD DVD financially and with content to keep it afloat. Microsoft's involvement in keeping a dying format alive to prolong the war. They don't care if HD-DVD wins, they just want Blu-ray to lose, so they can easily push everything to be downloads. I could spend hours finding all the articles I've read from tech magazines over the years, detailing which company did what, but I doubt that'll make a difference cause you'll just find some other way to rag on the PS3... in the PS3 forum no less.

Actually, I'm not ragging on the Playstation 3. I haven't said anything bad about it, aside from the backwards compatibility problems. Everything else is directed to Sony.

No, really. Find articles. Because I can't find anything about what you're talking about. It honestly does seem like you're just making shit up to defend your all mighty Sony.

If Microsoft was so adamantly against Blu-ray, why would there be Microsoft certified signed drivers Blu-Ray ROM drivers?

So yeah, keep up the bullshit spewing. You're really helping your favorite company out!

"Whatever format wins it is highly likely we will offer a solution. The only debate is if you want to watch Blu-ray movies and pay the extra money for that feature. We prefer to offer the consumer choice."

But Microsoft's PR people, were quickly seeking to set the record straight and send this to spong.com:
The article implies that Neil is suggesting that Microsoft is going to support Blu-Ray. To confirm, this quote has been taken out of context and is not what Neil was implying. Microsoft offers, and fully supports, the HD-DVD format and offers consumers the choice of getting their HD movie content either via the optional HD-DVD player or via Xbox Live Video Marketplace (US only).

Note: Microsoft officially supports the HD-DVD format atm so Toshiba probably doesn't like it when they say they would eventually support the Blu-ray format. But it's pretty obvious that if the HD-DVD format dies, Microsoft will support Blu-ray.

if they hated blue ray so much, why would they say they would offer it on the 360 if the format is the victor? the first quote is from an earlier statement that went to setting the record straight when toshiba got mad about them saying that, so they had to change what they said around. but they already let it slip so.

Back to the whole "Blu Ray or HDDVD" thing, I still believe HD-DVD will win, and theres yet another thing that will back this up. The porn industry. This is also the reason VHS was the winning format in the 80's over beta max.

The porn industry isnt going to produce any of their videos on Blu Ray, so theyre going to stick to hd-dvd. Im not saying porn is the sole reason, but it is one of the bigger factors out there.

FYI Vivid Video has released at least one "Adult" video on Bluray. I read about it on C-Net.com

But there are a lot more producers out there. Most could go with blu ray, but they will usually go with the fastest and cheapest to produce, more reliable, and more compatible disc.

I was just correcting your statement of...

They will go with what makes the most money. If Blu-ray continues to outsell HD-DVD I am more than certain that the industry will swallow (i made a joke) the higher startup costs and make it on Blu-Ray.

Uhh... Ruffy. The porn industry has selected Blu-Ray as their next default format... Can you tell me where you're getting your HD-DVD stuff from?

He's probably going off of the old talk about how Blu Ray did not support porn or something, which is obviously false considering that there is porn available on Blu Ray.

But last I heard, and this may be rumor (or just the talk from some random Nintendrone I know in real life), the porn industry does not like HD as much because it's harder to hide imperfections in the (I guess you could say) "actors" and "actresses."
