Just finished watching the movie for the first time in a long time and I have to say... I loved it!

The idea for the movie was great, the music was amazing, and the characters were dope.

Anyone else seen it and what did you think?
 
i remember some vicious scenes with that kat with the demon arm, taking off limbs with his bow, its a classic no? the english dub has some A-list voice work too
 
I always watch sub first, then dub when I get around to it. I just do it that way. As for the show, I still would recommend for others to watch, gore and all.
 
It's a great movie. I've been a fan of Miyazaki's work ever since I was a kid, watching the bastardized Warriors of the Wind version of Nausicaa.

Inspiring Avatar: The Last Airbender doesn't hurt, either.

heh! :biggrin: didn't even know what anime was then, was just another cartoon at the time. My grandfather showed that movie to me when i was like 7 or 8 maybe.

When I was freshman in college, and pokemon 1st dropped (do the math children) Evee was my immediately favorite pokemon because of the above said bastardized Warriors of the Wind.

The Cloverfield monster reminded me of one of them 7 Fire demons things too...
 
perhaps my favorite anime movie ever :P personally I think anime movies tend to be better than Anime Shows. At least.. I like more movies than shows. But ya, GREAT music, great story, great characters, great acting, over all great.
 
Yeah the movie is pretty great, for some reason the music always reminds me of FF7.

And damn the dub version has great actors. Got like Minnie Driver, Clair Daines, Billy Bob.
 
It may have top actor talent, but not top voice actor talent. In particular, Gillian Anderson does spectacularly bad as the Wolf God(dess). I forget the actual name. Throughout the entire movie she sounds as if she has a head cold, and really lacks everything that makes the Wolf God. There's no scornful, mocking tone whenever she speaks to humans.
The only reason these people are there instead of real voice actors, is to break into the mainstream by dropping names. Their performances are horrendous.

However, the original version is one of my favourite anime movies of all time, despite it being one of Miyazaki's average works.
 
I agree with Malagra with that. It's not horrible I think, but it just isn't as it should be. But it certainly doesn't ruin the movie or the pwnage that is Princess Mononoke
 
True that, the Japanese version is pretty damn good compared to the dubbed version, though I haven't seen that in a few years.
 
another movie that, imho, ranks up there with Princess Mononoke is Spirited Away... if you havent seen it yet, i highly recommend you do

I've seen it and I thought it was awsome too.
 
Nausicaa and the Valley of Winds was also great.. Hayao Miyazaki films are great in general.

SA is good. Not as much action as PM imo but still good none the less.
 
And don't forget Howl's Moving Castle. I didn't see that one until recently, but I instantly fell in love with it.
 
Damn you guys are gonna make me have a loooooooooong to watch list -.-
