what are the Pros and Cons of these two jobs?
and what would be good sub jobs for either?

thanks in advance :)

Dragoon pros:

  • An attack bonus trait, two accuracy bonus traits.
  • Jump, High jump, and Super jump (jump for straight damage, high jump lowers enmity, super jump wipes it completely).
  • Angon, -20% defense, nuf said.
  • Can solo decently with a mage sub.
  • Can equip homam.
  • Piercing damage is always nice.
  • Your wyvern can DANCE.

Dragoon cons:

  • Kinda gets shafted gear wise if you don't have homam.
  • Penta Thrust can be very meh, and thats basically you best weapon skill.
  • Your two hour is "ok".

Ninja pros:

  • Subtle blow and Dual wield traits.
  • Your two hour is a free warp every two hours.
  • Can tank most anything, and be a great damage dealer as well.
  • AF feet (+25% movement speed at night) are nice when you have no other source of movement speed.
  • Builds tp quickly.
  • Very good at soloing.

Ninja cons:

  • Has no A+ skill.
  • Can be an expensive job, from the amount of tools you use.
  • Takes a shit ton of different gear swaps, if done right.

Thats all I can think about at the moment...both jobs are great. Dragoon is a straight DD, where as Ninja can be a tank and DD.

i would have put the nin 2 hour under cons cause a warp that takes 2 hours to recharge is hardly a pro in my book. other then that i agree with ice wolf's post.

/em waits for all the silly loldrg comments :P

Ninja is really usefull in many events from tanking to plain DD. In experience, NIN can sub WAR to tank and do great damage while still having access to the best damage mitigation in the game. The gear choices for NIN are mostly relatively common and easy to gain for today's standards, no pesky kings or super rare HNM, most pieces either come from sky, AH, limbus, or dynamis (very common events) with the exception of maybe Usukane feet. We can solo relatively well and with DNC sub, very well or so I am told. The only flaws to NIN is a lack of native job abilities and some accuracy job trait/ability, but we still manage. Oh, it can be expensive, but not as bad as some make it out to be.

Dragoon is a different story. The job itself isn't as useful for many end game events and lacks any real defining use. Jumps are nice to remove hate while in the process deal a good amount of damage, but its just not enough to be appealing. Soloing is nice, but it gets boring fast and is never as fast as good party experience which like NIN is just nice to have the option. Gear choices are actually getting better for DRG though. Access to Homam, one of the best sets in the game loaded with plenty of MP, HP, accuracy and haste, it's levels above anything you'll find on AH. Add to that, DRG gets access to neptunal abjurations and Ares's set from Salvage, it can make for a very good gear set, but some of those are a bit tiresome to obtain.

So in summary: NIN has more demand in both exp and end game, most gear is easily obtainable and can solo; however, it can be a bit expensive. DRG lacks any defining job role, can solo and has access to some of the best gear in game just not as easy to obtain as a NIN.

Not sure if you're read on this but this is a very good site for beginning and veteran players

www.ffxiclopedia.org is a good site to learn a lot of stuff

Something about ninja and dragoon is that you must unlock them via a special quest by having one of the main six jobs (warrior, white mage, black mage, red mage, thief, monk) to level 30 in order to activate the quest.

This also lends itself to what subs are good to use, I'd recommend leveling warrior to 30 at least or finish it up at 37 since this sub is the bread and butter sub that ninja's and dragoon's use,

For drg subs such as white mage, blue mage(not neccesary but I hear very good), samurai (some dd ability with survival) and ninja (for higher levels really).

For ninja

warrior- 9/10 you'll use this sub for a variety of things whether tanking or dding

dancer- seen a few of these, healing ability is ninja's only weakness and this job uses the TP(read: points gathered from attacking) and converts them to healing, enfeebles, etc.

dark knight- a situational case and something at higher levels, not something to worry about starting out

white mage- also a decent soloing sub used before dancer came out it uses MP or magical points to heal debuff(not very well at higher levels except dia),etc. Only problem is that you have to rest to regain mp back while soloing.

There are a pleothra of jobs available far before when most of us started, feel free to try them all, also today I'll be working on 2 essays and finishing a book to revise another...I'll try to meet up with you saturday.

go with ninja, there isnt many cons to that job scine you'll be wanted for just about everything (incuding most storyline missions)

and 9 time out of 10, if you lvl nin to 75, your going to end up lvling samurai scine it uses practically the same armor, and it has all the practical uses as drg if not more so.

Wow, thanks a bunch everyone :)
very quick replies for a noobs question XD
I really appreciate it.
I should be getting my copy of FF11 today in the mail, in fact in another hour or two.
I heard that most of you are on the quetzy server so hopefully I'll see some of you soon :)

Thanks again :)

This is a forum for the server Quetzy. We only represent a small portion of our actual server.

DRG/WHM / DRG/BLU is one of the best solo jobs at endgame.

DRG > NIN!! (hehe responding to Zaltana )

If you have gil to spend, go nin, otherwise DRG, pretty fun watching you doing 100-250 damage each hit and other dd doing 25-100 (lv. wise).

People tell you nin can solo basicly everything, but they didn't tell you how many tools you'll be wasting for 50-200exp lol

DRG on /mage all you need to worry about your MP, and you can use ether potion or yag. drink to regens those mp.

Down side about drg is that people still go "loldrg" on you :/

with ninja, you may need a steady flow of cash in order to play it properly. You dont necessarily need to be rich, just have to keep the money rolling in to you because youll need to buy tools fairly often (not too often, though) along with getting new sets of armor pretty often as well. Its also a good idea to carry both katana and Great Katana with you when leveling. Use the katana just to keep the skill leveled, and the GK to do your damage. Contrary to popular belief, its more efficient up until around 50's and Jin.

Not to be a bubble burster, ninja isnt a great job to start playing as unless you have a good source of income before hand

i agree w/ some of the NIN parts, but why on earth would you even say that DRG lacks defining use in end game. Angon alone owns, let alone the damage that some DRGs i've seen output. Both Eles alone have shown that you can do alot to output major numbers let alone Angon a HNM so the rest can output insane numbers as well. This alone makes DRG a nice addition to end game, if they are good.

NIN gear other than the basics is not easy nor soloable. Osode, Hauby +1, NIN AF2 Chainmail, Rajas, Swift/Speed belt, Haidate, Senji, Perdu to name a few. Those all take more than one person to get... Unless you are buying them in which that eliminates Hauby and Osode. DRG gear is similar in that it takes gil to buy some of it, while the rest you need to hunt down: I.E. N gear, Homam gear, Rajas, etc etc.

If you are good at either job, they benefit end game significantly either way. NIN being the more expensive of the two in respect to how many ninja tools you have to use to be a competent tank.

Forgot a dragoon con:

-A lot of people are going to be biased against your job!

so it'd probably be better for me to level dragoon up and work on a steady inflow of cash then try leveling up Nin?
of course there are other jobs I could level, I'm just partial to Dragoon looks and abilities so far, and of course the ninja.
Dark Knight seems like a fun job to play as well, but I'm a noob XD

Forgot a dragoon con:

something to add about this which also brings a pro

People who level the job or become career dragoons tend to gear themselves extremely well and outdo the average bandwagon.

Ask Audino or Willian(rng)

their jobs aren't the bandwagon but they have no problem dishing it out.

So, are all of you guys on the same Linkshell or how does that work now?
(been gone from the game toooo long)

Lavi didn't say the gear was soloable, only that it wasn't very difficult to get. Sky and dynamis are incredibly common events now, you'd have to wait a bit for your turn to come up for the gear, but if you're expecting otherwise you shouldn't be in endgame in the first place. Swift belt you can do with a small group, Raja's are very common now adays and only take a small fraction of the effort they used to to get. Perdu you can get while you're meriting, Senj is a common drop from really easy KS30's. The gear is all easy to get, you can't solo any of it, but that doesn't change the fact that it's very commonplace.

Also, lolosode for nin.

DRG's don't have much of a purpose in big endgame fights. Yeah, there's one or two that are pimped out enough that they can put up respectable numbers, but that's not enough to say the whole class is useful. Plus, while they can put out some numbers, they'd have to melee on the mob to build TP for a lot of those fights; and that's the thing you don't want. Samurai is significantly more valuable just for meditate and they can put up the same kind of numbers without having to be the top 1% of their class. So, if you want to limit yourself to just being an agnon whore, feel free; but you're not going to get much other use for most of the really big fights.

There's nothing wrong with the job, it's just not one of the most useful ones for endgame. If you like the job, level it; if you don't like the job, don't. If you like both, level ninja so you'll have something to do in endgame and level drg on the side in your free time.
