Pros and Cons of Dragoon and Ninja

I quit WoW cause I got hacked, and because I didn't think to highly of it =x
IMO just looks to cartoony, and I've met to many immature little kids trying to "PWN n00bz"
and be "1337" /sigh

If I may say, alongside all of the actual advice most people can give you along with the links to FFXIclopedia for DRG and NIN... the best thing to consider when doing any job is your personal style of play (i.e. mindset, strategies, budgeting, etc etc).
All in all, though..
NIN is a good tank against most enemies that hit hard and slow. If you gear yourself correctly, you can also do decent damage while you are at it. NIN was created to be a damage dealing job, with survivability using Utsusemi and Evasion. However, it can be used (now) for tanking, damage dealing, or a combination of both with some good balancing. Overall, I'd say NIN is good if you have the money and the patience to learn the mechanics and timing of things.
DRG is essentially a damage dealer, plain and simple. Yes, as a result, you will end up having slow invites due to so many DD jobs (both physical and magical). However, you can decently solo with the job using /WHM or /BLU, having a good strategy, and knowing your limits. DRG's Jump series abilities are wonderous for dealing damage and shedding hate. I personally tend to use Jump as soon as it is active during a fight, while saving High Jump and Super Jump for after using a weapon skill (typically due to hate-nabbing numbers). I switch back and forth between the two, though try to use High Jump first if it's up (and obviously, if that isn't good to shed enough hate even though it typically is, I'll wait a bit to see what happens and might Super Jump). Anyway! With some patience and some time to get decent gear, you can easily have a well-balanced set of equipment for DRG. It's not too expensive if you do things right, too. And you can still deal good damage on a budget with DRG! Good strategic use of WSs and abilities is a plus, too (see above with High/Super Jump and high-damage WSs; along with using WSs like Leg Sweep to stun long-delay monster abilities or for interrupting enemy spells). Overall, if you like some versatility in play style and have some patience, you might enjoy DRG as a straight-forward damage dealer / semi-solo job.
This is just my personal insight of the matter - just remember, that it is YOUR style of play that determines whether or not the job is meant for you. Plus it's really what determines the pros and cons of the job - any problem can be dealt with by thinking up a nice little solution for it that fits you best. ^-^

Well I'm more of the melee damage dealing type.
Back when I played WoW I had a rogue, and so I'm just partial to being Melee.
but it'll probably take me awhile to even get those jobs up to a good level to test them out myself XD

Quick question, I know on WoW they had threat meters to see hate.
Are there addons for FF11 that'll show you hate or how does that work?

no such a thing, you must be active of what you do to the enemy in question

such as provoke causes a massive shift of hate that will usually turn the mobs attention to you, and small stuff such as regen, debuffs,etc. that will cause little hate.

i could go into more detail if need be but generally speaking

Things that

A. Cause another person to recover from some or shift attention from a sort of near death experience

B. Big damage pile up at one time

C. Anything that impedes the monster movement.

Cons of DRG (or pros depending how you look at it). Alot of time to yourself with a flagup:

ah thank you K. Ishitar.
So would I be correct in saying that a steady flow of damage would not cause you to pull hate, Given the tank is doing his job?

Correct.

ah alright. Seems pretty easy to maintain then :)
btw, if you any of you decide to AIM or MSN me my name is Colin.
So if you want to, you can just refer to me as Colin from now on :)

I donno my experience with drg has been pretty good, certainly not weaker than any other job if you actually give it a solid try, that said it's lacking sort of a mid ranged set of endgame gear, it's basically crappy gear or really good gear and often hard to get the really good gear. but if you are weak you can sub war and get away with it with well timed jumps to help make up for damage.

I find penta thrust to be pretty strong, nothing like 2k damage penta thrusts on colibri without even a 2hour (granted I need suicidal /war for it lol)

Well, I'll certainly be giving all jobs a try atleast :)
see which one I have a real feel for.
Just wish tomorrow would hurry up and come so I can start playing ><

drk > all jobs

and dont argue with me unless you want another jump in oil price :P

well the only hint i think off when you just start the game ... dont drop the beastman seals :P

If you make a Last Resort macro referencing Papa Roach I will have to kill you. Multiple times. This isn't a threat, it's a promise.

EDIT: Okay, but seriously, I've got nothing against the job. I'm just against people doing stuff like the above on the job perpetuating the stereotype. I like Dark Knights the know what 'stun' is and how use it. At least on the pro side, you get to swing one really big sword/scythe to slice stuff up with. And you get to kill yourself every 5 minutes when you have tp to weaponskill (Unless your name is Audino, and you're just awesome like that to no die).

Ninja blows before Jin. Its expensive if you want to do it right, regardless of what everyone says. If you're a middle of the road player and don't have the funds to correctly gear yourself, put Ninja on hold.

Long time PLD: Ninja will make you feel completely insufficient until you're fighting Colibri. I would never recommend Ninja as a first job. Get a DD to 60+ and develop a new feel for the game, then consider Ninja. Its better to see it from the easier point of view before you dive in and try it for yourself.

I usually associate DRKs with lower intelligence players who only think of big numbers and have stupid macros. jk =)

DRKs are very good, especially with Absorb-TP, which helps make up for DRKs lower accuracy. Stun and various absorb spells add a lot of utility to the job as well. The job really begins to shine when you obtain your 4-hit weaponskill Guillotine. (i could be wrong though).

yay all way

Dark Knight Pro

* 3 attack bonus trait,
* Souleater covert 10% of your HP into Dmg *12% with souleater equip*
* able to cast spells
* Can equip homam , Ares and other heavy armor
* able Stun with 2 Abilities *spell stun and weapon bash*
* able to use most Sword , Axe , Gaxe , Gsword and scythe
* able to get TP with Absorb-TP

Dark Knight cons:

* Most of its Abilities lower its Def and Draw Hate *threat*
* Scythe is slow
* Your two hour is bad its only heal yourself ... if you didnt miss
* some equip is very costly or hard to get
* Hard to Solo with but its can be done
* sometime you get called emo-drk :P
* most of it Damage type is slash , no way to do Piercing damage

in short DRK is a heavy and slow Hitter , most of drk equip add ACC and ATK , some unskillful tanks well have hard time holding hate off you , in some case . you may get one shot after big WS damage

Absorb-TP, sup?

hmm doesn't really sound like my deal =x
maybe I'll just stick with DRG first when I unlock it and go from there :)

I see classes like bards and dancers, how do you go about playing those?
seems like it'd be kinda...lame.. to sing or dance an enemy to death =x
