ok first off I have a budget so I'd like to get stuff as cheaply as I can but I was wondering if you guys could recommend some jRPGs? Please not FF13 because I think I'd hate it(not gonna plop down $60 without trying it first/renting it) due to my extreme dislike of RPG AI.

PS3:

Disgaea 3;
White Knight Chronicles;
White Knight Chronicles II (Import/Coming Soon);
Valkyria Chronicles;
Tales of Vesperia (Import);
Star Ocean: The Last Hope International;
Trinity Universe (Coming soon);
Atelier Rorona (Coming soon);
Ar Tonelico III (Coming soon);
3D Dot Game Heroes;

PSP:

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona;
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable (Coming Soon);
Half Minute Hero;
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness;
Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days;
Star Ocean: First Departure;
Star Ocean: Second Evolution;

If I think of any more I'll be sure to add them.

3D Dot Game Heroes is more action adventure with RPG elements like Zelda I'd say :P but ya, still get it ftw.

Gerry I kinda want to get Tales of Vesperia for the PS3. I checked Playasia.com but couldn't really find an NA version of the game. I can't read Japanese or I would of got that version lol. You know of a decent site? I haven't read anything on an English version being released over here.

+1 to Valkyria Chronicles.

Well, the voice actors of Vesperia sort of confirmed the PS3 version coming to NA... buuuuuuuuuut Namco Bandai haven't done ANYTHING about it. Your best bet at this time is to import the Japanese version I'm afraid.

MONSTER HU-Mana Khemia for the PSP was pretty fun.

Ah I saw a game review on IGN with English text and voice overs though? Guess it just hasn't hit yet. Shame, it looks awesome. If I even remotely understood Japanese I would import it, but I hear Tales games are very story driven and I don't really want to miss that aspect out.

O_o

Link? I really need to see this as I've been (trying) to follow this as best I can and I've heard nothing about an English release for the PS3 version of Vesperia.

According to Wikipedia

Release date(s) Xbox 360
JP August 7, 2008[1]
NA August 26, 2008[2]
EU June 26, 2009 [3]
PlayStation 3
JP September 17, 2009
EU Cancelled

So it's out on Xbox 360 in the EU but not on PS3. Guess I'll grab it from play.com (it appears I was over thinking this whole thing lol)

There hasn't been any word from NB about them cancelling it, so I'll take the Wikipedia entry with a grain of salt. That said though, importing it from Japan is still awesome, considering the amount of content restored in the re-release.

could just be from the Xbox 360 edition? Anyway thanks for some and keep it up. I'm not to keen on importing a text heavy rpg because I wouldn't understand the spells, weapons, armor and items....not to mention the story XD

I do understand that some JP games have an option for english menus but I doubt that vesperia has them so we'll see at E3 perhaps? keep up the listing as I haven't afforded many games since I bought the systems...

Gerry didn't have FF7: CC to the list D: another fun Action RPG game

umm, PopoLoCrois is fun imo :P PSP game.

Valkyria Chronicles (one of the best games I have ever played and hands down one of the best games this generation has to offer. Simply put, it's a gem in a basket full of poop. PSP sequel coming soon)

Resonance of Fate (Very good, **challenging**, and more depth than FF XIII could ever hope for) **How many games can you say that about these days?

Disgaea 1 (the PSP version; the ultimate SRPG)

It's hard to recommend anything outside of these three games. 3D Dot Heroes looks fun, but I haven't played it yet. Everything else ranges from "meh" to complete crap but I have pretty high standards when I'm to recommend a game to someone with a tight budget.

I think we're about to have a ToV PS3 announcement soon:

http://scrawlfx.com/2010/06/troy-baker-confirms-tales-of-vesperia-ps3-localization-in-video

"Tales of Vesperia's Troy Baker, who plays protagonist Yuri in-game, has confirmed that Tales of Vesperia for PlayStation 3 is coming to the west in the past. However, after eight months of release in Japan, Namco Bandai has yet to announce the game for localization.

A video filmed back in April has been brought to my attention today. Apparently, none of the net picked this up, but here it is. The video shows Troy Baker during a Q&A session at Sakura-Con 2010 where he confirms Tales of Vesperia PS3's localization. He even says himself that he doesn't understand why Namco Bandai have yet to announce a street date for the release.

A transcript from the Q&A that I've put together can be read below. Please note that there are probably a few errors, as at some points it was hard to make out what Baker was saying.

I know you guys re-recorded the voices for Tales of Vesperia PS3. When are you guys going to announce the European release or do you know if it's coming out in the US?

Somebody asked me about that, there's actually no - we didn't re-record everything, they literally took what we did and just dropped it in and there was a couple of levels that they added. Uhm, so the new character, uhm, what's her name? Patty. We mentioned in the expo recently actually about the PS3 version.

So now the European release - I don't know why they haven't set a street date. It doesn't make any sense to me.

I'm ready for it to come out, too, because I've got a PS3 and I'm like "I want to ??? games".

If you prefer the video, the question is asked at 5:20."

Edit: Should also note that the film of ToV is out in Japan now, so hopefully they'll bring that over too.

I'd say the best 2 RPGs released so far this gen(haven't played through Fable 2 or FF13 yet, so not comparing those 2), are Valkyria Chronicles and Demon Soul. Both very unique games too.
