what?

oh and btw "motion technology" as you put it has been out since world war I. ask ur mom to buy you a wii and you might actually enjoy it

You're right! If you put the Gamecube version of Zelda next to the Wii version of Zelda they AREN'T identical!

Technically, they're not identical. The Wii version has support for widescreen televsions and the Gamecube doesn't. The Wii Zelda is also a mirror image, so the layout of Hyrule is reversed from what we know from Ocarina of Time. Admittedly, those are minor differences.

Slam it as a launch title all you want, but it sold plenty of Wii systems. Nintendo released it a month or two before the Gamecube version for that very reason and it paid off in spades.

I bought the Gamecube version because I didn't have a Wii at the time, but even now I'd rather have the 'cube version because I can't imagine how shaking the controller to swing the sword could be more effective than just pressing a button, even with lock-on.

It is a normal marketing strat to lose money, look at all the free cell phones out there, do you really think there 0$ cost on those?

I'd be concerned that on a new technology, Nintendo is still pulling a profit, with the lowest cost machine out there. It just shows they jammed old technology and gave you nunchucks, painted all white and sent the fan boys home drooling.

There is no inovation there, motion sensor isn't new, to consoles yes, but it's been around for at least 5 years.

Sony and Microsoft are taking a chance on their machine, that takes balls. Losing money because you believe your system will deliver the best graphics and gaming line up that the public will love.

The whole "nintendo loves their fans so they don't make us pay more" stuff is getting retarded.
There's no innovation in that there was no brand new technology, true; but the innovation is in the application of that technology to let you do new things, and that's why the Wii is a shitload more innovative than 360/PS3. This was brought up months ago, so I'm not going to rehash it.

As I said, the cost of even a very small improvement in a console's performance can lead to a huge development cost; just because Microsoft and Sony have more money to gamble with doesn't automatically make them ballsier nor does it automatically make their console better. They just have huge bank accounts to fall back on for the next few years until they can start showing a profit on their consoles. Nintendo has a different marketing strategy and it's blatantly obvious that it's a very successful one.

My point wasn't that it wasn't an affective financial strategy, to make a PS3 port so that people would be able to gloat that there's a good Wii game for their launch. My point is that those people who gloat are idiots, because 2 versions are absolutely useless without even a graphical update for the better one or a serious control upgrade to take advantage of the Wii, rather than hastily jamming the gamecube controls into random Wiimote controls.

Congrats, can stick Wii Zelda into the Wii and play it. Can also stick FF12 into PS3 and play it. The only difference is my FF12 will also work in PS2s and it's a better game.

Yeah, a useless PS3 version would have sold some PS3s and sold more copies of the game, because the world is full of idiots like the people on this message board, and more systems would have meant more PS3 owners which would have meant more confidence in the system and format. Yeah, I get it.

Congratulations, you're idiots, Nintendo picked up on the fact that you're idiots and sold you based on that. Why not praise them some more for that?

Yeah, I'm an idiot for not throwing away $600 on a console with features I'll never use and the console itself won't even be worth it for at least a year; yeah that's real fucking dumb, basing my purchases on the amount of enjoyment I'd get out of them.

Go jack off to your PS3 as it fails more.

Edit: you didn't like Zelda because the quests at the beginning of the game stumped you, that doesn't make the people who enjoyed the game idiots. It was a launch title, yeah, better graphics would have been nice; but that doesn't change that it was a great game that people enjoyed.

Being a ps3 owner, I would advice to wait to get the ps3. However to say the system completly fails like many people are saying is wrong. I completly agree, as of right now it is not worth $600.
One main purpose I bought it, was for Blue-Ray and video games combined in one console. I only buy Blu-Ray discs now as they are so much better then DVDs.
It seems people mostly diss the ps3 because of their release games. My roomate has a 360 and Gears, and I personally dont like the game at all. I find the game to be really boring and not nearly intense as Resistance (However it was fun a bit to chainsaw people). Im also a big sports games fan, and have really enjoyed madden and fight night andproject 8 etc on my ps3.
To be honest I think the Wii is foolish. I feel pretty stupid standing around and swinging my arms all over the place to play video games.
Most people who bash the ps3 are people who dont own one and just bash it base on looking at the games instead of actually experiencing them.
Of course I could be much more happier with the ps3, and yeah was expecting a bit more, however im more excited about its potential and its future. Its future looks bright as the system is so powerful.
Basically I dont think the ps3 "failed" but I do think it could have done better. But I think that about all systems when they are released. So again, I think ps3 is worth buying, just not yet. Give it a few months and itll start just gettin better and better.

I never said it was worth 600 bucks yet. However we all know it will be worth it eventually. Considering I had 600 bucks to spend on it and the desire to have it now, I don't see myself as an "idiot" for going ahead and picking it up. After all, I was able to sell my PS2, controllers and memory cards today(they'll be worth less in a year), start buying movies on blu-ray now, start buying cross platforms on next-gen now. If you have 600 bucks you can spend now and believe you'll get a PS3 eventually, you might as well get it now.

I didn't say people who enjoy Zelda are idiots. I said people who gloat about Zelda for the Wii and bitch about the PS3's deficit in games are idiots. It's as if making a version that doesn't play on game cube is a technical marvel to you people. Wow, I can play FF7 on my PS3, I guess we have the best launch title ever!!!

The PS3 is very worth $600, only for the fact that other BLURay Players cost up to $1,000. It has no good games yet, but I know FFXIII will come out next year (as other good games will too).

I'm not sided with any system because I buy all that come out. What I will say will come from my experience in almost 30 years of playing videogames:

After Zelda, Mario/Wario, Metroid and maybe DK what the hell will we play/find interesting in our Wiis? I only played Resident Evil 0 thru 4, Zelda and Mario/Wario on my GameCube. I'm getting the feeling that history will repeat itself with the Wii. I hope not.

Btw, I'm loving my 360 (even thou It's starting to fail me...).

I love how people love to argue numbers.

Oh, and don't buy a PS3 now. They are making a new version.

LOL, I like the original song "How to stay alive"... this one was awesome though xD

I'd prefer buying it now to get a version able to play PS2 and PS1 games, then to buy a new one only able to play PS3 games. I dunno about you, though...

Well the newer version emulates by software, which will theoretically allow it to upscale ps2 games and DVD movies. Downside is it's got a lot less backwards compatible games working for it yet, although still more than 360's got working for Xbox. Current version has 99% of the games working.

We'll see what March firmware brings though.

Well I dunno...is the price gonna be lower? If it is, I wouldn't mind the less backwards compatibility. I'd just hold on to my ps2 and probably save some money..

I ment that, I don't know what I were thinking when I wrote that ~.~

The current PS3 have 98% backwards compatibility. Sony said in thsi interview though:

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced a hardware revision for its Playstation 3 devices when they launch in Europe on March 23. The European version will have its PS2 chip removed, and software emulation will take over for most of the PS2 functionality. This means that very few PS2 discs will work with the new PS3.

"The backwards compatibility is not going to be as good as the U.S. and Japan models," said a spokesperson from Sony. Currently the North American and Japanese models have the PS2 chip installed, which allows them to play 98 percent of old games.

"PS3 is first and foremost a system that excels in playing games specifically designed to exploit the power and potential of the PS3 system," said David Reeves, President of SCEE. "Games designed for PS3 offer incredible graphics quality, stunning gameplay and massively improved audio and video fidelity that is simply not achievable with PS and PS2 games. Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology."

"Sony is managing expectations by saying now that the new console will play fewer of the old games, and that's a good thing," said analyst Alex Kwiatowski at British market research group Vertical Market Technologies. "I'm as disappointed as the next game player about the reduced backward compatibility, but even the most nostalgic, misty-eyed gamers will have their steely hearts impressed by the new features that PS3 games provide."

Speculation is abound on whether or not this new version of PS3 will find its way to North America next. 1UP contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America for some answers. "We have no announcement regarding any hardware specification changes for PS3 in North America at this time," they were told by a company representative.

Sony will be offering regular downloadable firmware updates from the Playstation Network and via PS3 game discs as of March 23, launch day. However, European gamers will need to hang onto their PS2 systems if they want to continue playing their favorite PS2 games.

Gamers will be able to view a list of titles online that are compatible with the PS3, but the site will not go live until launch. No compatible titles have been announced so far, so it is uncertain what the actual number is. Check back with RPGamer for more information on this story as it becomes available.
Basically, yes. They will make it emulate by software instead, which will make it support less games, and make them run slower and more laggy. Doesn't sound like a very good deal. I can only imagine they need to save money, which is why they chose to go down this route.

But then again, american airlines saved $40,000 in December back in the 1980's by removing one olive from every sallad in first class, so Sony will probably save a lot of money. Question is if its worth it.

But is it gonna reduce PS3 cost or not? Someone said it would but I'm not so sure...
