PS3 is hurting!

1. Notice the word "RETAIL". I used it for a reason, thanks.

2. I've played it a lot, it's quite LOL. I also seem to recall something about the PS3 version being terribly disappointing because it's almost identical to the 360 version...

It costs what it costs. 25 bucks. The fact that'd you'd pay 80 bucks for one isn't my fault.

And yeah, the PS3 version is the same as the 360 version. What do I care? Who is going to buy the PS3 version if they own the 360 version already?

I assume Saints Row will be nearly identical to the 360 version as well, and I assume Elder Scrolls will be identical. I didn't but PS3 for the hope that I'll get 360 games only better! I bought it because the 360 games I want will be multi platform and there's no exclusives I'm going to miss.

Sorry bud. Forgot who I had just read a post by. lol

And Tag, OoT is one of my favorites, so I am a little biased. A lot of people believe OoT to be the real layout of Hyrule. But you are right, that is my bias lol

I didn't say I'd pay $80 for an HDMI cable, but the average consumer (we ARE talking about the average consumer and not the fringe, hardcore enthusiast, right? because you know, that's the most important market for this stuff, average consumers...) won't know about the huge price disparity, or, in many cases, won't trust online stores with their credit card numbers.

And yeah, FN3 is the same as the 360 version, and based on my experience with the 360 version... it really is quite LOL worthy.

Most of the Wii games out now don't justify their $50 price tags, because their production values are low and the actual games are very short. Their best selling game is a Gamecube port. Trauma Center is a DS port. Their CoD is a port from the PS2 version.

Matter of opinion. I love warioware...I think I Paid $50 for the gamecube version and it's still the #1 game we play together. I've gotten more than my monies worth out of it. Ditto for trauma centre. My god $50 is the same price as GBA games, it's a huge deal!

Now you're just knocking it based on relative popularity. 2 million PS3s sold so far, half as many as Wii.

There were 10 million gamecubes sold and 130 million ps2s sold. I don't recall people declaring that the gamecube flopped. I don't recall xbox 360 selling 2 million in this point in its life cycle. I expected PS3 to have low sales until there were more games out, I don't know why everyone is so shocked and awed that without any really exceptional exclusives out that it's not leading the market yet. I think the people who are being idiots are the people who are making a big deal out of it, trying to act like 2 million, without even the European launch out yet, is a surprisingly low number. Did you expect people were going to buying up every unit out there until Metal Gear and FF13 came out?

It's a lot easier to justify only picking up two games on release when your system is only $300 vs $700 - a $400 price difference. Playstation 3 has no games out for it right now that can justify paying someone paying $700. Hell even had FF12 been a PS3 exclusive you couldn't convince me to drop that kind of dough down. No matter which way you look at - video games are still toys and paying $700 for a toy is ridiculous...especially when that toy won't even function at that price considering you don't even get one of their $80 games with it. As far as the Blu Ray thing - that's not even confirmed as being the next best DVD format yet. You might just have the next Laser Disc player on your hands. Also combine that with the fact that your average consumer doesn't even have the system to support that kind of quality.

Firestreak said:
How many people on this very board who are trashing PS3 said they were gonna get one eventually when more games came out? Some of us can just afford to buy one now.

Uhh that's a big frickin problem. When average joe or christmas mom can afford to buy your video game system - you're not going to move product. If you're not moving product you're not selling games, if you're not selling games you're losing developers, if you lose developers you have no games - if you have no games you're not going to sell systems. See the problem? I might of picked up one eventually for like I dunno...$400, not $700.

Sales figures again. I don't rate systems, games, movies or books based on their popularity. People are stupid, look how many people watched Titanic? It had a bigger box office gross than Terminator 2.

Sales figures can make or break a company. Sony better get it's shit in gear. Just because you <3 your PS3 doesn't mean sony is going to continue to support a product that doesn't make it money. In the end it's still a company and the bottom line is how much money they can make off of it. After the latest PSP ad fiasco, battery re-call and PS3 not performing as well as they wanted the company is hurting financially. When CNN Money writes an article on how bad Sony is doing it's time to re-evaluate your strategy. I'm pretty sure the movie studio who made Titanic doesn't care it was a bad movie - they're sleeping in a bed of money right now.

Firestreak said:
By the way, it's $200 cheaper than the 360 not $300. You can get a cheaper version of the PS3 just like you can get a cheaper version of the Xbox.

I"m canadian actually. PS3 is $699.99 and 360 is $399.99...that's a $300 price difference...oh and that's the Good bundle ont he 360 - not the gimp one.

Oh yeah, if you want internet service that's another 60, for the first year.... so I guess it's 140 dollars cheaper.

Forgot, if you want the wireless internet adapter that's another 100... so I guess it's 40 dollar cheaper...

Want that HD DVD attachment so it can play High def movies? Don't even think about it! We won't even add that in! How about a hard drive? Doesn't come with that.

I don't buy console games to play them online, I don't buy console games to watch movies, what extra prices?

Firestreak said:
I didn't say it wasn't a good business move, I said it didn't add any value to the gameplay and the Wii version was no reason to get a Wii. They could have set it so you had to play with a gamecube controller, and people would have bought the Wii version because they assume for the more advanced system the game isn't identical.

Nintendo never duped us into getting the wii version of zelda. They came right out and said it was the same as the Gamecube version minus the controls...nobody assumed anything.

That's shipped, not sold. Sony has shipped 2 million consoles, but around half of that is what's actually sold, the rest is sitting on store shelves.

About half is about wrong. 1 million PS3s shipped into the US. As of January 28, 931,300 sold. Is that about half?

700k in Japan, don't know how many shipped.

I thought the 240k that Tag keeps posting was a global sales figure, which would put it at around 1.2 million sold total. Even if they sold out in Japan(Which I doubt) that's still not 2 million units.

Using Fight Night as a game to make a system is pretty much a moot point. It's easy to make any game look good with only 2 character models on screen.

Why wouldn't you just buy a US version of PS3?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16868110009

And I can confidently say Blu Ray isn't going laser disc. Too much corporate support and they've already figured out how to make a disc that will play on both formats.

Prices always go down and as Blu-Ray becomes cheaper to make, the system becomes cheaper to make. When cell processors gain more momentum, the system becomes cheaper to make.

This is a circular argument. If I say it's a good system, you say it's doing bad. You say if it's doing bad, then it's a bad system. Lie to me and tell me that you thought the gamecube was a bad system and that no good exclusives came out for it because it had poor sales. Lie to me and say that if the Wii was selling less systems than the PS3 that you'd be complaining the Wii is tanking cause that makes it a worse system somehow.

MediaCreate's numbers put PS3 at about 650k in Japan, but its sales are slowing down. Wii is at 1.5 million and its sales are still supply constrained.

I can't find current total sales numbers right now for the US, but I did find numbers that show PS3 sales are declining sharply after the holiday season.

Wii sales fell from 604,000 units in December, the smallest drop of the three consoles, Terry wrote. The Xbox 360 had the biggest decline, dropping from 1.13 million units while PlayStation 3 sales declined from 491,000.

Nah, US sales. And don't forget the 8k Canadian sales!

Those are monthly figures. Here are total figures.

US 931,300+[4]
(as of January 28, 2007)
JP 656,968+[5]
as of February 18, 2007)

So it's not far-fetched to believe they're nearing the 2 million mark around now. Where you get a 1~1.2 million total I don't know, but lay off the crack.

It is far-fetched to believe they're nearing 2 million when they're, according to those numbers, at 1.5 million, and selling ~50k in Japan and ~250k in the US in January. Feburary is historically an even slower month, sales-wise, than January. For the end of February, they should be at around 1.7~1.8 million, still a solid month away from 2.

By then Wii will be at ~2.2 million in Japan alone.

The March lineup is the first reason to really justify the price tag so I suggest we all just wait a month and see what happens. They'll get released in Europe which is a huge deal as well as the release of a lot of GOOD games. I'd be surprised if they aren't up to 3 million by the end of march, and seriously, I don't see 3 million units sold from November to March as a flop by any means, unless you had completely unrealistic expectations.

I mean.. shit, the Wii's kicking ass, but every Wii costumer isn't signing a promise to never buy another system. I bought a Wii and I have a PS3 too and really for the amount of hours I waste playing video games, it's not a huge deal to shell out a few hundred bucks every few years.

How many of you play video games more than 10 hours a week?

Let's also not forget what all of you are saying, the Wii is selling to non-gamers. If nintendo busts open the market and sells to people who'd never have bought an Xbox and PS3 anyway, that doesn't really hurt Microsoft and Sony.

Alright let's examine the root of this argument. Bajarett said 1 million, I said it's closer to 2 million. It's going to be somewhere between 1.7 and 1.9 million, consider the fact that VF5 came out and hit #1 in Japan. You don't have to argue the fact that it's not exactly 2 million yet, rather agree with the fact it's a hell of a lot more than 1 mill.

That's gotta be a Canadian figure. In the U.S., GBA games and DS games are $30-$35. Your e-peen has been edited for length.

consider the fact that VF5 came out and hit #1 in Japan.

Considering it did so for one week (expected) then fell to #40 or so (also expected)... so what? It didn't move any PS3s at all - its weekly sales were still falling.

That's because no one said the figures given were only the US sales Firastreek. I'd doubt it'll even break 1.7 million, since the figures listed were taken in the middle of february.

It's all a culmination

03/05 College Hoops 2K7
03/06 Def Jam: Icon
MotorStorm
NBA Street Homecourt
03/13 F.E.A.R.
03/20 Armored Core 4
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The Godfather: Don's Edition
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas
Virtua Tennis 3
03/27 Enchanted Arms
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Dou...

Every game out is going to be just enough to justify for some customers. The biggest thing is something great and a little choice for all the different genres. As in, more shooters, like F.E.A.R and Rainbow 6. that's coming out, more Mechs, more Racing, more Sports, more RPGs, more fighting games.

Before VF5 there weren't any big fighters, just a port of the PSP Tekken on the network. VF is the biggest fighting franchise in Asia, now PS3 has a game for hardcore fighters. PS3 between Formula 1 and Motostorm will have the hardcore racers, with ridge racer and need for speed for variety.

As of now, there are no RPGs at all for PS3. In a month, there will be 2.

Getting their first tennis and wrestling game, their first sand-box type game.

This is going to be a pretty big deal.

Let's do a little math. Over 1.6 mill in January. 250k sold in February in the US alone. Hmm...?

I estimated 2 million. It's probably around 1.9 million now. Some most of sold in Japan, you know. Some must of sold in Canada. Some must have sold between now and a couple weeks ago.

Either way we've established it's a great deal more than the 1 mill you thought.

650 + 950 = 1600k

and the 250k number is for January, like I've stressed more than once previously in this thread, not that you actually read anything before going on your diatribes.
