PS3 is hurting!

Let's do a little math. Over 1.6 mill in January. 250k sold in February in the US alone. Hmm...?
Sales continuing to drop, some figures taken in the middle of the month. Hmm...?

650 + 950 = 1600k

and the 250k number is for January, like I've stressed more than once previously in this thread, not that you actually read anything before going on your diatribes.

So, 1.6 + whatever sales in Feb basically?

Seems to me like they won't shrink so much from January sales considering VF actually gave them a boost.

i actually really like the song in the OP, it raises some good points... however, there's one thing i really don't get. a lot of the "popular" gaming peoplehave glorified shooters as the make or break of a system. Halo 3 vs other shooters seems to be the future conflict. sony has never had it's strength in shooters. not ever. to be honest, if the price tag wasn't so large nobody would have anything really to bitch about the ps3.

VF didn't give PS3 a boost in Japan.

Well, that's not exactly true, sales went from 20k to 30k that week (but quickly went back down to ~22k the week after) so it's a bit of a bump.

Eh. 10k.

I guess it's like a 20% boost for the month, but that isn't saying much.

The 1.6 million figure includes Japan hardware sales up to and including 18 Feb 2007. Even assuming 30k more PS3s sold in Japan from then to the end of the month (which might be a generous estimate) you're still looking at 370,000 PS3s sold in February in the US to make that 2 million mark and in general system sales from Jan->Feb are about the same/10% fluctuation either way at most. Sony would need a 50% sales boost over January to meet the 2 million sold worldwide mark and I really don't see that happening considering the state of PS3s sitting on shelves.

To compare, the Wii in the same time frame has moved 3.1 million units (including the same JP numbers and no US Feb numbers yet) and does not include the AU/EU/etc markets that I can't find concrete numbers on. First-day sales were at least 150k in those markets, though, but I did not include them in the 3.1 mil total. I wouldn't be surpised if once the Feb. US numbers come out, the Wii has a 2:1 sellthrough ratio over the PS3.

It's all a culmination

03/05 College Hoops 2K7
03/06 Def Jam: Icon
MotorStorm
NBA Street Homecourt
03/13 F.E.A.R.
03/20 Armored Core 4
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The Godfather: Don's Edition
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas
Virtua Tennis 3
03/27 Enchanted Arms
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Dou...

Where have I seen all those titles before? Oh wait...

Nobody who already owns a 360 is buying a PS3 until FF13 comes out. Ports are fine until then, they give people intending to buy the system eventually more things they could do with it now. Considering 360 is the only next gen system that's already worth its price tag and considering of like 150 million people who owned last gen systems, only 10 mill own 360s, the 140 million are probably waiting for something.

The 10 million 360s number is a crock of shit, considering the system hasn't cracked 5 million sold through to consumers in America yet and I'm not even sure they've hit a million sold in Japan. Microsoft likes to push the 10 million number as consoles sold to retailers but not all of those have filtered into the customer's hands.

And what the majority of people are waiting for is simple. Price drop. Even if FF13 comes out soon I don't see how the game would be worth the $700 I'd likely have to spend for the system and all the accessories. And if the average consumer doesn't want to spend that much on a huge game like FF13 they're not going to spend it next month to play all the ports that are coming out.

Bring me the 60GB version for sub-$400 with either a pack-in game or some kind of PStore points and we'll talk.

360 is at like 7~8 million sold in the US, actually.

The story is simple, M$ did to Sony with the 360 what Sony did to M$ and Nintendo with the PS2. One year is a long time. lol

Man.. this is so funny... why don't y'all just wait and see how everything plays out. This console war is like a game of poker that you see on TV. Who thinks they have the better hand. Who will get intimidated... who will go all in... who is bluffin, who will fold?

All the systems will have games to look forward to this year. I don't own a system, but I'd probably get a Wii because it has my type of games. Wii will have Metroid Prime 3 and Smash Bros. Brawl which has a giant fanbase and I think will be like a 'second launch' for the wii.

PS3 will have MGS4 which i hear has a great fanbase of players. Will they be making a Gran Turismo for PS3 anytime soon? I know a lotta ppl like those driving simulators.

X360 will have Halo 3 leading the way (probably) with their other 'must-have' games of the year.

Now it's all about who has the better hand which is determined by the buyers. Sony suffered a lil already but will they 'double up' on x360 or wii?

=================

My jaw sorta dropped on whoever posted that chart of the power consumption of the next gen systems. Man.. Wii saves you a lotta money in the long run of things based on that chart.

And fire... remember back in the day of Sega and SNES when games like sonic 2 and marioworld and mario kart and F-zero were.. ummm.... 50 bux? The games seem short because we are better gamers now. We as gamers have seen a lot or can predict what to do next in a lotta games because we have learned from experience in past games. Back when i first played SMB1 on NES I took pride in myself that I could pass world 1-1 in the game. It took me like 30 minutes to do it because back then.. I wasn't a 'gamer' and sucked totally bad at that kinda thing. Nowadays.. you can take some games and pretty much have no real problems going thru them.

I remember when i'd go to blockbuster videos back in the day and just rent a game.. beat it.. return it, and pick up another one, instead of buying the game for 50 bux because I wanted to play that game.

To me.. I don't think games are getting shorter or lessening in quality. The problem I think is going on is lack of originality. It's like the guy who has surfed the whole internet and has nothing left to surf for...

How long will it take sony to get 'back on track?' who knows. How long will this generation of systems last? No idea. When will the developers be able to actually 'use' this technology to create superior games? Don't ask me. Will it happen before a next generation of consoles come out? Lets hope so. Otherwise it will be like xbox and x360 all over again.

Some of the superior games are out already. The difference is astounding.

Take GRAW (Ghost Recon) as an example, it looks very detailed and next-gen ingame comes in the form of helmet/gun cameras. You have a screen Picture in Picture like. In there you can choose to see what any player from your team is watching in real time.

PS, think it's pretty cool what's been leaked if it's true about the new Playstation "home" feature that's coming out. It'll just post one of the articles talking about it...

" Game Developers Conference has never amassed hype as big as the hype it's getting for 2007. With E3 changed, it seems like publishers and developers alike are spreading their focuses across a bunch of different trade-shows and expos. Phil Harrison recently said that come GDC, PS3 owners would find themselves very happy. Why he wouldn't say...but we think we may have just found one of the reasons.

An inside source close to Sony made a post on the IGN boards a few weeks ago talking about a new feature that Sony would be implementing. At the moment the feature is dubbed "Home", and Sony has even secured a patent and logo for the name. The poster commented that this new Home feature would create a virtual home located in a virtual town, populated by the people on your buddy. Your buddies can go inside your house when your PS3 is online, and you can go inside their house.

Your home will act as a storage of trophies, achievements, and other rewards that can be viewed by anyone on your buddy list. But, the most crucial aspect to the asset is that it'll let people listen to audio on your HDD and watch videos from your HDD (you make the audio/video public or private). You'll be able to play a host of mini-games like cards with your friends, and also have the virtual TV in your home display a video in your PS3. Lastly, the poster suggests that you can walk outside of your house and visit the Virtual Theater (you'll get movie clips/videos here) and visit the Virtual Arcade.

A NeoGAF forum member by the name of Gofreak discovered the logo, the patent, and a lengthy description that Sony filed for. At this moment, it's looking like "Home" is the real deal -- we just have to wait a few days until Sony gives us the full details on what sounds to be one amazing feature."

Don't know if it's true for sure or not but.... if so, I'd say PSN would pretty much own Xbox Live and Nintendo VC.

So the savior of the PS3 is stealing ideas from Nintendo, Microsoft and MySpace?

Doesn't seem to be a ripoff to me but some people will complain about anything. Sorry, you can't have it both ways, complaining about a function being absent than complaining when it's added.

You're right, Miis unlocking achievements and taking part in social networking/Second Life isn't ripping anything off. Why is this the lynchpin of a $600 game console?
