PS3 is hurting!

Joint venture.
Yeah joint venture in that sony's only real contribution was paying for most of it.

You obviously have no idea what the fuck is actually going on in the industry in terms of the edge of new innovation. The fact that you think the Nintendo Wii is a technological innovator is a testament to this. The only innovation that's been a notable jump in a system is that the Cell happens to be first appearing in the PS3. I don't consider Blu-ray innovative in the PS3, it's been around. They're just the first person to stick it in a console.

Motion sensors isn't innovative, it's not even new to a console, it's just the first time it's been mass produced with that particular level of sophistication. Nintendo didn't invent it, they just used it. That's fine, but Sony was part of actually inventing the Cell, and the PS3 is the first thing to use it. That's actual technical innovation. That's actually pushing technology forward.
Yes, obviously I have no idea what's going on in the gaming industry, especially when the majority of the industry agrees with me. Pull your head out of your ass already, your idea of "the direction of the future of gaming" is the vast, vast, minority of those actually in the gaming industry. You don't like the motion sensing because you can't do it right, fine, but learn to accept that almost no one in the gaming industry actually agrees with you. When there's gaming companies left and right praising the Wii and it's innovation, it's hard to believe that you actually know more about it than they do. Hell, the wii is winning awards left and right for it's innovation, actual awards too; but I'm sure they're all just wrong and you're right.

Innovation is something "new." Motion sensors aren't new. The wiimote isn't new technology. Typically, console hardware isn't innovative. It's cheap, mass produced and standardized. Besides the cell chip, not much technology has debuted on a gaming console.
Innovation is doing something new, whether using current technology in a new way or making new technology. Motion detection has been around for a while, but they were the first to actually incorporate it at it's current level into a console. The technology in the wiimote is new, because Nintendo worked with the developers of the technology over the last 4 years. At the very least, it's the exact same level of participation that sony had in developing the cell processor. So not only are they the first ones to incorporate it on such a scale, but by your own definition, they are innovative because they helped create the technology.

Old news. For the gigantic production costs of GTA4, neither console would have had the install base to support it alone. You have to take into account it's going to actually sell some PS3s to people who are looking for a reason to upgrade from last gen and don't like Microsoft(the entire world minus America). We're talking about an extremely small slice of the pie they're dividing a gigantic budget for. Just making something next-gen cuts out user base, after all, even now the PS2 is owning the Xbox360 and PS3 put together.
Way to completely miss the fucking point, I'm becoming less and less surprised each time you do it. The point was that a major sony executive was admitting that the PS3 didn't have a big market share yet. It's a wild shift in their interviews, usually they just bash the other consoles and act like they're already winning; but it looks like they've finally seen the sales figures and realized they're in last place.

Might want to stop living in the PS3 box and look at what the rest of the industry is doing. It's great that you like your PS3, but you're in the minority for thinking the Wii isn't innovative or a good console.

The press is not the gaming industry. They're the press. The press' job is to praise what's popular amongst its viewers. People like to read views that they'll agree with. This is why conservatives tend to watch Fox News and liberals prefer to watch more liberal news stations(everyone else?). When someone speaks out against the Wii, even in an appropriate setting, they get bad press, e.g. spore developer.

The problem is the double standard and I'm getting sick of it. Nintendo takes something that's been done elsewhere and mass produces it for consoles and they're Gods in your eyes. Sony takes something new for consoles and you try and find small similarities and call it a rip off.

You call Home a rip off of Nintendo's Miis(I don't fucking get this at all, are you saying Miis were the first avatars??? Have you never played FFXI???) And then you say it's a rip off of second life. Alright... so they took something from the PC and made it for mass use on a console...

Yet you consider them ripping off and you consider nintendo innovative?

I consider none of this shit innovative. None of it is new. You don't buy new for 250 bucks and you're damn lucky to find it at 600. However, if you're going to consider innovation, have a little consistency on what qualifies. Inventing the technology yourself? No... guess not, not if all it does is the same thing only way better.

Being the first to make it a console? Sure if Nintendo does it... and if someone made something very similar, fuck them, who cares right? If someone did something a little similar on the PC though... Sony is not innovative at all!

Fact, is if Nintendo came up with Home, you'd be calling it the most innovative thing ever to hit a console. If the PS3 came up with the Wii-mote, you'd say they steal shit from other companies, point out the similar product and laugh at them. At least I'm consistent, neither are innovative.

I've never heard them say they're winning on market share. They're beating their main competitor the 360 by a comparison of launch to launch. They've sold more units than the 360 sold by this far into its life cycle. They also didn't have to replace half of them because they were rushed to market and were defective. The only thing I've heard is that they're confident about their future and that they're pleased with their launch... which is better than their PS1 and PS2 launches.

Also... people are idiots and I don't give a crap what the world thinks, I prefer to come up with my own opinions. 95% of people believe in God, doesn't mean I have to(not saying you're an idiot for believing in God). Being in the minority doesn't mean you're wrong, and you're a damn fool for trying to base an argument around that.

What I really don't get is how you call them ripping off a combination of Second Life and Nintendo Mii. It makes no fucking sense. Explain this logic to me. Second Life uses avatars. Where the fuck does Nintendo coming in saying their Mii's were jacked? Do you think if Nintendo hadn't used Miis that Sony was going to do Home, but instead of avatars you'll be a shapeless blob that oozes around the online world? Until Nintendo Wii's launch, the concept of an Avatar wasn't considered a standard in every single MMO?

Wow, just wow; you're beyond all logic at this point. Honestly, thinking that support for the wii is just a bias from wherever I get it? It's pretty hard to shrug off interviews with the president of the companies as just a bias, but somehow that's exactly what you're doing.

As for the Spore developer, that was more because his company and the parent company(EA) both support the Wii and didn't want to have problems with having people who hate the console working on a project for it. Hell, Will Wright himself said he thought the Wii was the perfect console for spore. Even then, the number of interviews that I can remember actually denouncing the Wii is the spore developer and some Sony execs.

The technology is new, Xavix used crappy IR break detection to simulate motion sensing; the technology in the wiimote was developed by Nintendo and other companies. The only place there's a double standard in terms of adding the new technology is from you; you think Sony is innovative for helping to pay for a new technology, but Nintendo isn't innovative for at least doing the exact same thing.

Yet you consider them ripping off and you consider nintendo innovative?
The Mii's are innovative in that you can use them in your games and they can be used in other people's networks. It's not very innovative, but hey, it's something new. Then again, you didn't have to pay out the ass for it, so you wouldn't call that innovation.

I wasn't the first one to say Home was ripping off Mii's, that was just in response to you keep denying that sony just ripping off other ideas as a non-issue. I don't buy that Sony has been working on Home for years, because the PS Network hasn't been around for years. I even said that Home was ripping Second life off more, I don't really see ripping the Mii's off but it was already in the discussion; figures you'd go for an insignificant blip and act like that was the whole basis behind what I said.

Ok, so it has to be above a certain price to be innovative, more idiocy, but whatever.

Being the first to make it a console? Sure if Nintendo does it... and if someone made something very similar, fuck them, who cares right? If someone did something a little similar on the PC though... Sony is not innovative at all!

More assumptions pulled out of your ass. Once again, the Xavix system is nothing like the wiimote's motion technology. I know it's hard for you to understand the differences in motion sensing technology, but get over it already.

They don't say they have the biggest market share, because that would be blatantly false. That's also not what I said(there you go missing the point again); I said that they have finally realized that they are not doing anywhere near as well as they had projected, rather than acting like they are the only console worth buying.

Also... people are idiots and I don't give a crap what the world thinks, I prefer to come up with my own opinions. 95% of people believe in God, doesn't mean I have to(not saying you're an idiot for believing in God). It's a response to you saying that I don't know what the industry is thinking or where it's heading. It's showing how wrong you are, that your opinion is in the vast minority, so stop acting like you're the only one with any idea of what's going on, especially when your view is lacking support.

You know what the big technological advancement of Cell is?

The only big deal about it is that it's designed to run as a super-multi-core design.

That's it.

That's nothing special. Dual-core has existed for years before Cell...

Wow, just wow; you're beyond all logic at this point. Honestly, thinking that support for the wii is just a bias from wherever I get it? It's pretty hard to shrug off interviews with the president of the companies as just a bias, but somehow that's exactly what you're doing.

Hole shit, I believe the press can be biased!!!! I'm a raving lunatic!!!

Hell, Will Wright himself said he thought the Wii was the perfect console for spore. Spore is one of those programs that show where the Wii is lacking in ways that Nintendo fans would never admit. There's more than a system than its graphical capacity, but its ram and processing power to determine how complicate of a program can be ran on it. Spore's one of those things that wouldn't run on the Wii and has nothing to do with graphics.

This is the technology in a Nintendo Wii.

http://www.x-arcade.com/newsletter/Wii Dupe.shtml

Infrared(nothing new), and accelerometers, been around since this thing.

http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q...o&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&sa=X&oi=froogle&ct=title

A 2001 and one item.

They weren't in there inventing the damn technology, they were just making it cheaper for mass production. This is why I said you don't pay 250 for innovation, specially if they're only paying... what, 180 on production?

The Mii's are innovative in that you can use them in your games and they can be used in other people's networks. It's not very innovative, but hey, it's something new. Then again, you didn't have to pay out the ass for it, so you wouldn't call that innovation.

That's nothing new at all. I've already exposed that the wiimote isn't new... avatars moving across the internet... do I need to shatter your tiny world view that this is new too?

I wasn't the first one to say Home was ripping off Mii's, that was just in response to you keep denying that sony just ripping off other ideas as a non-issue. I don't buy that Sony has been working on Home for years, because the PS Network hasn't been around for years. You believe Nintendo has been working on the Wiimote...the technology they "invented"(lol, nintendo fans) for 4 years, but you think Sony constructed an online world in 4 months in response to... what? If they were ripping off second life, they could have stolen the idea years ago and been working on it and still been unoriginal.

But the fact is... if you're having a 3d online PS3 world, I can't really see anything other than their current design being what they'd use. Considering... it has to be an online world but it can't be a game, it's almost impossible to make anything that's a 3d online world not a game and won't be called a second life ripoff.

Try and come up with something that doesn't seem shitty, I dare you. Come up with an idea for a 3d online world that's not a game, isn't ridiculous(like some abstract thing you come up with no one would use to not be like 2nd life), and is still cool but not "ripping off" something that's been done already.

Ok, so it has to be above a certain price to be innovative, more idiocy, but whatever.

New technologies are expensive. Things get mass produced years after they're spit around the high end market.

More assumptions pulled out of your ass. Once again, the Xavix system is nothing like the wiimote's motion technology. I know it's hard for you to understand the differences in motion sensing technology, but get over it already.

Yeah, the Xavix and Wii are nothing alike...

http://www.gadgetspage.com/toys-games/xavix-vs-nintendo-wii.html

Somehow, however, the Xavix manages to do everything the Wii can do with more accuracy. You'll have to explain to me how the ability to play baseball, golf, bowling, boxing and tennis shows inferior technology to the wii and can be all done from infrared while the wii needs to use accelerameters. You can explain to me where you read the nintendo invented the technology not just built the remote with what they liked in it.

They don't say they have the biggest market share, because that would be blatantly false. That's also not what I said(there you go missing the point again); I said that they have finally realized that they are not doing anywhere near as well as they had projected, rather than acting like they are the only console worth buying.

Harrison never said the PS3 is doing badly, he said it didn't have market share to support on his own the expenses of a GTA4. Huge production value titles rarely come out at the infancy of a system and Xbox360 has been out a year. You also have Microsoft in the business and they don't mind bleeding money over to studios, for all we know they paid Rockstar games a chunk of cash. Microsoft is so damn rich they don't care. Xbox 1 lost 4 billion dollars for them and they just pump more into xbox 360.The only way to defeat xbox is to bankrupt microsoft and that isn't happening while they own 94% of the PC market share. Still more established franchises I want on playstation and it's still a better constructed console and even at 200 more for the physical hardware I'm getting it's a better deal.

It's a response to you saying that I don't know what the industry is thinking or where it's heading. It's showing how wrong you are, that your opinion is in the vast minority, so stop acting like you're the only one with any idea of what's going on, especially when your view is lacking support.

Popular opinion? First off, I disagree with the gaming industry on a shitload of things. The gaming industry calls Home innovation. They call Xbox live innovation. They call the wiimote innovation. They call the blu-ray innovation.

None of this shit is innovation. The gaming industry places too much self importance on... dun dun dun, the gaming industry? It's innovation to them even if it's been somewhere else. To me innovation is something new... like... I don't know, multi-core cell processors? Maybe the first online world? How about the atari, that was innovation. Wolfenstein 3-D was innovative. Was dreamcast using CDs innovation??? No. It was just a smart business decision. They didn't invent CDs or using them or even using them for games, just consoles.

Cell isn't innovation.

Cell isn't innovation.
But Sony made it! Therefore it's the only innovation that matters and it automatically makes the PS3 the best console ever! Who cares that someone else did something similar before, the cell processor is totally innovative!

You're right, it advances nothing.

If more power is meaningless... what was the point of Nintendo upgrading NES to SNES, then to N64, then to Gamecube? Shouldn't we have just focused on how much fun gameplay we can churn out of NES until the Wii came along which should have sold for 10 dollars being a NES with the wiimote?
So when the Nintendo makes an advancement, it's just a joke, but when Sony does the exact same thing in a different place, it's the only innovation in consoles? You're chock full of double standards, your logic as to why Sony is innovative shows why Nintendo is innovative; the same logic that says Nintendo is not innovative also applies to Sony to show the same.

More power is good, but there's a limit to it's effectiveness. I've already said it a few times, but none of the sony fanboys seem to understand or even care. In a couple years, the PS3 can 360 games are going to plunge headfirst into the uncanny valley and they're going to have to abandon the strategy of shoving as much power as they can into a console. Power is plateauing in terms of it's importance, the only place to go in terms of immersion is controls. Motion sensitive controls are more immersive for gaming than button spamming; if you think otherwise you are delusional(but then, you can't seem to do the motions right so you might be). The wiimote isn't perfectly accurate to your motions, but it's a step in the direction of the future. Hell, sony even tacked on that six-axis so they'd be able to compete in some small way(and they needed something since they couldn't use rumble).

I can't wait for shit like this becomes more standardized. But then, it's been done for years and it's not just stacking power into a system, so obviously to you it wouldn't be innovative at all.

I was trying to be sarcastic.

We're nowhere near the end of effectiveness in terms of power. You're going to look back at the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii in 20 years and say, "man, those games look like SHIT!" Technology moves forward, always forward. We're going to have games coming in one day with ultra high def and real photorealism rendered in real time, with models reacting so close to real that you can't tell you're not watching a movie. We're going to not be able to tell as our characters walk down a city street that it's a game we're looking at. As great as Motorstorm and Gears of War look right now, they are great looking games but not realistic. Looking better and better will always be an issue until a person cannot tell they're looking at something fake.

Motion sensor controls on the other hand, has no future. There's nowhere to go, except make the controller more accurate and less glitchy. No matter how we interact, the wiimote is just a different kind of controller. It's a controller that can sense a wide degree of movement, and it's sophisticated but it's limited because there's only so far you can take that.

I can't wait for shit like this becomes more standardized. But then, it's been done for years and it's not just stacking power into a system, so obviously to you it wouldn't be innovative at all.

That's the future right there. The wiimote is a path to go down but it's a dead end, this has potential. Imagine a future where the game will take the commands from your brain and give the feedback direct to your brain. No TVs, rather imagining you're in the game. Of course, imagine that hand in hand with photorealism from powerful processors and you've got what it'd really be like. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are taking us down the technical path we want to go, the Wiimote unfortunately isn't taking us down the road to neural connections. It's no closer to a neural connection than a joystick is.

man this thread is still going and its mainly fire on the biggest fan boy rampage ive ever seen.

just let it die and let people live with their own opinions.

its all opinions, everyone has them. I used to love sony, now i laugh at them as they phail and are the joke of gaming latley.
I was doubtful of the 360 since the first had nothing to offer but halo.
I was proven wrong 10X over with how fantastic the 360 has become.
I do not own a wii yet, but have spent countless hours at my moms house playing my bros. Innovation and fun at its best.
let it die, dont see what point your trying to push here or why its so important to you that people have to see it your way.
your opinions wont move mountains or other peoples point of view.
and as Baj said, you fill it with double standards and expect anyone to look at it as anything beyond fanboy rampage.

and baj, That shit looks awesome. i want some neural games with that thing.
and for technology like that with innovation like that....to cost less than ps3. lmfao. awesome.

Where are theses "facts" coming from?

Where are theses "facts" coming from?

most of the gaming community, Thats what is being said so thats how it stands. and its all been said with people accepting that it will change it just takes time.
as for the other xbox already being worked on, peter moore announced that himself.

Noone can really say which is better. Its all personal opinion. Its like this:
SonyFanBoy: PS3 Is better!
Fine looks like PS3 is best.

XboxBitch: FUck you bitch, XBOX is best!
/sigh Xbox wins.

like i said its opinion, but to those who dont have a fanboy side agree that 360 is the most worth owning at current time, ps3 is not worth it yet and will be later, wii is worth owning for the innovation alone.
i dont have a fanboy side to any system. I was a big sony fan, they failed me on the HDD with lies and then came out with the ps3 which i laughed at and still do, i personally dont see a reason to own one for a long time and even then its only one game, i wont buy a system for one game.
the wii is fun but sadly i cant find one, I can however find a ps3 at any store i go to.

as for xbox i have owned one for 8 months now and havent had a dull moment thanks to a few fun games so far and some awesome mulit platforms ive played, and live arcade just keeps me happy with the original TMNT arcade game and double dragon coming, not to mention worms HD that came out recently.

i dont back any of the three more than the other, i buy whats worth it on the market and is the most fun for me at the time. Which pretty much all non fanboys do. and the list i posted was the general consensus in the gaming community, along with most opinions ive found in this thread.

I agree, 360 is the best buy on the market. But that is just what i think. I also think the Wii is a gimmick un-original system which will be overshadowed in a year.

man this thread is still going and its mainly fire on the biggest fan boy rampage ive ever seen.

uh huh

just let it die and let people live with their own opinions.

Yet you're about to tell people your opinions and claim them as fact.

PS3 is not worth it at this point- Fact
Wii is innovation- Fact

I've never claimed PS3 justifies it price tag with the current game lineup. I've said I decided to get it now because it will be worth it eventually and I can afford it now. This allows me to get multiplatform and movies on the right format for later.

Everyone has gotta copy someone at some point, and add on to try and make it better- fact

Pretty much.

360 is the only real worth it system at THIS POINT- fact

I've said that several times.

Ps3 will get better (hopefully) eventually, but by then the new xbox will be nearly completed if not already done- Fact
Graphics do not matter in games as much as gameplay (in this case bullet witch which got major bad reviews because of graphics and minor gameplay issues, Most people love the game)- Fact

Which is why I don't really like Xbox. They have a very short console life... it's kind of detrimental to the point of owning a console.. you want them to have 6+ years of use before they're done. If I was going to have to keep upgrading, why not just own a computer instead?

its all opinions, everyone has them. I used to love sony, now i laugh at them as they phail and are the joke of gaming latley.
