PS3 is hurting!

I really think you may be thinking of some Xbox patch, because I've been following PS3 news since before launch.

By the way, this console discussion gives me a great idea. If they rebuild the world trade center afterall, they should make it out of gamecubes(there's millions sitting on store shelves unopened, so it will be cheap). An entire tower built out of solid gamecubes would withstand any terrorist attack.

By the way... don't call me a hypocrite if I wind up buying an xbox 360, lol... I just sold my Wii so I'm probably gonna.

Nah, it wasn't 360. I think I am just mixing 2 events together. My fault Fire. I know there definitely was a patch that did a whole bunch of PS3s in because I remember being in GameStop and seeing a pile of like, 6 PS3s in defectives and the manager telling me that there wer patch issues, and then going home and reading about. Maybe it's a combo of like, original model PS2 failure rate I am thinking of and I just suck with 2 and 3 lol I'll keep looking.

But that's not a bad idea with WTC, My Gamecube is one tough cookie. And do buy a 360. I'm probably picking up a PS3 over summer lol Like I said how many pages ago, it's a powerful system with no games. They have a decent lineup coming so I can't complain. Every time, I own every system, so it's inevitable.

Thats what Ive been doing for the past 20 years. If you have the advantage to get every system avialable, you should. =D

I'll buy any system when it comes out with an exclusive I want. I'll buy back a wii when smash bros comes out, for example. I was gonna buy a 360 when blue dragon came out. The real issue is the way PS3, 360, Xbox live and Psn dual ownership will make for a lot of complicated decisions.

Like I see no reason to get Xbox live gold if I can get free online multiplayer off PSN... it gives me matchmaking and that's all I give a shit about. That means, to me, a lot of games have some shifted value... like Resistance > Gears of War if you don't have xbox live gold.

So get xbox live gold? Well out of the xbox lineup, the only game I want to play online is gears of war and sports games... until halo 3 comes out. Unreal Tournament will be for ps3, so can play it online there.

So I'd essentially be paying 110 bucks for gears of war... as all the sports game I want are mutliplatform or PS3 only...

Another issue is my best friend in FF11 lives in Japan, is getting a PS3 not an Xbox360, and am looking to hang out with her on PSN Home. If I get live gold and all online games for Xbox 360, then I can't play...

Considering they're giving live silver online matchmaking to the PC, as just annouced, it makes it quite obvious that it is profitable enough to give xbox live gold out without charge... which makes the 50 bucks sting me pride-wise. I don't hate MS just for the sake of hating MS, but it's a principle thing not to pay for multiplayer.

Which devalues xbox 360... since it only leaves offline to me basically. I hear Gears of War is a 6 hour game and not worth it without online play. So we've got Dead Rising... Oblivian is on PS3 now. Saints Row is coming to PS3 soon. Crackdown looks bad. Blue Dragon"s been delayed til August. Mass Effect doesn't have a definite date..

Kind of want a 360 but after thinking all that through... the only exclusive I'd want is Dead Rising... and something tells me the second I buy it... they announce a PS3 port.

Of course with HD DVD add-on can get Batman Begins...but HD DVD's gonna flop... but it'll pump out exclusives for a few more months at which point xbox 360 will have more exlusives I want... by which point my xbox 360 will probably get 3-lights-of-deathed...

Hard choices to make, but in the end this generation is going to be so great... with so many worthwhile excluses it will be hard for any serious gamer to not buy all the systems.

yeh but windows live is just an extension of xbox live, if u have an xbox live account u have a windows live account.
And windows live only gives free PC multiplayer. that and better multiplayer like true skill linking.
You need gold to play cross platform so playing on xbox still costs and is still worth it in every way.

Silver benefits
Unified with Xbox Live account
Single-player achievements
Private text and voice chat
Friends list
PC-only multiplayer, including browsing a list of active PC games

Gold benefits (includes all Silver benefits)
Multiplayer matchmaking with friends
TrueSkill matchmaking
Multiplayer achievements
Cross-platform gameplay

and just about every game ive played that had some multiplayer content was worth playing, even the arcade games are fun in multiplayer. its not the price of the service, its the quality that values the price.

The thing is multiplayer online is maybe 10% of a game to me. I have plenty of friends who live in the same dorm with me who are always up for coming over and playing Resistance or Virtua Fighter and I rarely buy games that are going to be dependant on online multi-player alone.

The one exception is going to be Warhawk... I will buy the fuck out of Warhawk... cause I can be playing online and when friends come over they can just hope on and join... the screen will become a splitscreen the second they hit the start button while I'm in the middle of a online game.

So really, matchmaking is honestly the only thing that matters, to me, someone who's not really a hardcore online player. I'm not going for the leaderboard. I don't care about achievements, I'm not going to get any of them except offline if that happens by accident. I barely even play Resistance or Motorstorm online. I play the hell out of it on deathmatch just off my TV. I play the hell out of Motorstorm single player just switching off, and when the splitscreen patch comes in I'll play the hell out of that too.

I also don't particulary like using a headset and I hear on xbox you get kicked when you don't use it. I almost never wear a headset on PS3 and there's really no reason to communicate in any of the games out now. Throw a MMORPG at me that's Xbox live exclusive so everyone has a headset, there's a reason to use it. Playstation home, there will be a reason to use it. But when I play Motorstorm I don't bother.

What am I going to talk about?

What am I going to talk about in any online shooter? Discuss strategy? Here's a strategy... shoot the enemy! You won't get higher levels of strategy unless you're in a clan. I won't join a clan because seriously... joining a clan for a first person shooter.... pretty... well, I won't say anything at risk some people reading are in one.

From my experience in R6Vegas, the team with the most people with headsets usually win. It gets frustrating telling a guy to gaurd a hallway when he can't hear you. Or telling someone to switch teams because your friend is joining.

this is true for all such games, which is why its frowned upon to not have a headset. my problem is that im always in private chat and forget when im in games so my team mates cant hear me.

Only games i've ever played where headset makes a difference is counterstrike and Rainbow6. Everything else is just a shootfest with no real teamwork needed (see: Halo, Resistance)

Haha hold on, Motorstorm needs to be PATCHED to allow offline multiplayer?

Yeah, out of the box there is no offline multiplayer option.

My Starsiege Tribes server was tied to a Vent server, the regulars would always be on it and usually we'd team against the random server browsers.

That game REQUIRED extra chat options. =x

Ogodthatgamewassogood

Anyway yeah if you don't think FPS needs voice chat you've probably never played a really good team-oriented FPS.

You're not really good are you? Headset helps in more than just discussing strategy if the team even has one. Scenario: I see a guy heading for X point on map and I have a teamate near there, I warn him, we get a kill or if not, at least my guy had a chance and didn't get shot in the back. I see someone hiding with a snipe, someone close smokes the guy or we take precautions to not get sniped. Talking makes the team better even if there is no predetermined plan of action before entering a match. Most of the times people without a headset don't have them plugged in because they don't want to hear about how much they blow. I play to win though, mmm ladders, not to "just shoot people" so meh... I'd like to hear your theory on clans, btw. Most people who think clans for FPS games are stupid, are bitter to the fact they aren't good enough to score a slot on a roster for tourneys.

Headset is very important in online gaming, communication is difference in win/fail situation. I was in several high skilled halo2 clans, and am in currently a very skilled GRAW2 clan. Ohh noooez we even practice. And during practice... We communicate.. Oh noez. I even made alot of money off halo2! Allmost as much as my damn job/yr earnings lmao. But anyways for casual online gamers which you seem to be fire, i understand you not caring or wanting to use headset. But do know most of the people playing online are very very competetive, and want to win. They learn through communicating with higher skilled players and participating in team oriented strategies. In some games its locating enemy snipers, locating spawn campers, overall team defensive strategies, team offensive strategies and what were weaker points in other teams defence, and some its just telling teamates who has what current weapon and when its respawning. All of that knowledge is guaranteed win if the other team is not communicating or just doesnt do it well enough.
like you said many friends come to your room to play multiplayer with you. For me i go online to play against the best players the word can offer. Given some games i just fawk around online with :p

Honestly, I suspect most people who take shooters seriously play on PC. I don't love the genre, I'm not trying to get to the "next level" and I barely care if I win or lose. I'm just trying to log in, have fun for 30 mins then log off whenever I feel like it. RPGs are the only thing I'll take seriously. When they make a weird MMORPG-Shoot em up hybrid where you gain levels by wasting NPCs or some weird shit like that... maybe I'd take it seriously, but honestly I don't think the average person who buys Gears of War or Resistance wants to dedicate themselves to being a top ranking player.

You do realize there is a market for being good a FPS games, right?

He's one of MANY. Hell, I have a friend who makes a lot of cash off Countrerstrike 1.6 and my old neighbor was a Halo 2 pro.

Seriously, I'm not planning on starting grad school next year because my ambition is to play video games for a living. That's fine for some people but... god damn. And anyone THAT serious about gaming has no excuse not to own every system, including playstation 3, anyway.

That looks cool, I definitely would buy that. Assuming I could play it via monthly charge without having xbox live premium like FFXI?

Most likely, since silver membership allows you to play MMOs.

That games looks pretty cool. Hopefully they'll make some cool splitfish attachments for the 360 cause I'd want to play on this bad boy.

^^This what the PS2 version looks like.

I'm guessing 360 will get cool stuff like that /w all their shooters so popular.
