PS3 is hurting!

So the 1.6 firmware upgrade is out.

Only ~44% of PAL games play without 'noticeable issues.' Some of those titles include:

Okami
San Andreas
Kingdom hearts
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Devil May Cry 2
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Vice City Stories
God Hand
Resident Evil 4
Fifa 06/07
Jak 2: El Renegado
Jak 3
Bully
Beyond Good and Evil
Soul Calibur III

Not to mention some of the ones that don't work at all:

Metal Gear Solid 2
Gran Turismo 4
Jak 1
All Ratchet & Clank games
Guitar Hero I & II
Silent Hill 3

AND Sony's saying they aren't going to focus on improving the compatibility. Maybe this is how they're going to move current product. "Buy a launch PS3 and your PS2 games will work, guaranteed!*"

*guarantee is not a guarantee

I thought Guitar Hero worked, just not the controller since the inputs aren't the same.

Well, without a method to input then the game isn't actually playable.

And what can I say? They fucked up. They'd have been better off focusing to make the most popular 100 titles run than 1200 random ones. At least my PS3 has a chip still. Kind of a nice bonus for early adopters who aren't gonna get the inevitable price drop.

I believe Pelican is releasing an adapter that will allow you to plug the Guitar into a USB slot on the PS3.

I am kind of sad that Harmonix isn't going to be doing Guitar Hero 3. Stupid MTV buying them up. Now Activision and their Tony Hawk team are going to be making it. I have this weird feeling that there will be an unlockable Spiderman costume somewhere in Guitar Hero 3 lol

I'd heard that too. Might actualy try the game out then.

And the 1.6 firmware isnt out, just checked for update and found none. Where'd they get the update data?

It's the PAL firmware for the EU launch in 2 days.

75% play right now but only 44% or so play without issues. But I did see Barbie Horse Adventure is flawless so that's one in the plus column

By the way, I recommend anyone with a High Def system with a little interest in a HDTV but not keen on spending a lot of money...

It's a 720p/1080i. Until 1080Ps are a bit lower in price it's a pretty decent set and it's a small investment. I'm planning on using it until I get an apartment and then stick it in my bedroom and get a bigass 1080P.

Found one at a retailer for $370 but I'd say 400 + shipping is worth it.

Seriously, it does? Oh, I'm totally buying a PS3 now!

BTW, I forgot to add Fire, if you do plan on picking up a 360, you might want to wait a bit because they are re-releasing the 360 to support HDMI output and with a 120GB hard drive. It is only going to be $70 more than the 360 out now, and will actually come with the HDMI cable lol I am not sure if this is a route you want to take though, since it will be HD and not Blu-Ray. Just an option you might like for a prettier picture.

Pretty good buy there. I got mine for a little more, but very happy with what I am running on.

Yeah, I figured I'd half ass it until I get a big one but you got a less sketchy looking TV.

Well, I don't think it's coming with an HD DVD built in. I am thinking about that, for HDMI though. HDMI is just a better looking picture and 120gig is nice if you like fiddling around with the hardware as much as you like playing the games. Not sure if HD DVD attachment is worth it... will have to see if they're planning on sticking around. At the moment there's maybe 3 HD DVD only movies I'd buy and Batman Begins is the only one I want badly... but if HD DVD gets a year's worth of exclusives before going under probably a few I'd like.

They really should just end the format war now before more people get betamaxed. I doubt a lot of the people who buy a Blu-ray or HD DVD are even aware there's competing formats and if they are, they'll listen to whatever salespeople tell em is safe to buy.

Please, throw that shit away. If it's not on a PS3 it's not even next gen.

for high-def TVs, anything smaller than 32 just isnt worth it. 32 is what i'm getting once my shitty financial situation settles down.

Bah, again, I need to learn to read. YEah, it's just HDMI output, but not bundled with the HD Player. Forgot the player was the initial rumour. The HD-DVD add-on that they have now though is not worth it, I can tell you that much. It will allow you to play the HD movies, but it doesn't upscale quality at all since the 360 can't output it as such. What do you expect though, for a HD player less than half the price of a normal HD player.

I disagree completely but I have better than average eyesight.

People say actually that playing regular DVDs on the 360 is horrible. Like I said, to justify the HD DVD add-on the format would have to last a lot longer than I anticipate it will. I will laugh when a blu-ray attachment comes out. I doubt it will though, we all know how much Microsoft loves "choice."

I have a DVD player for DVDs lol I never play DVDs on my consoles because I firmly believe every system has a maximum usage time, and I am not wasting mine on movies. I have yet to watch a single movie on my 360, so I couldn't tell you.

Microsoft loves choice, but only when they are the only one ^^; lol
