PSU Character Info

Yeah, the Moatoob areas looked kinda bleh to me too, Strid. Atleast the outdoor desert one did. Dunno if theres any cavern areas yet, but the cavern lobby looked fine.

I'm not trying to be mean here, but grinding without any luck is pretty worthless. You're playing with a very hot fire.

Yeah, it was really a ballsy move but I thought I'd get some luck (Not the stat, I mean generally), and I'd at least get one of them to 5. Considering they were all reading "Very High" on success rate, and Humans haven't had luck higher than 1 in about a week I decided I'd go for it. Guess I'll just wait another hour and hope we get a Lv3 Luck day. :/

Edit: Actually, from the looks of the chart on PSUpedia, humans have never gotten Lv 3 luck. What a bitch, lol.

Going from 5-6+ is really where you need the luck. Everything before then can be done, for certain (with the right grinder), without luck. I've tried going past 5 without luck before too >.< It never works, for me.

AXxxxxxxxxxxxx0rRRRRRZ, gimme gimme.

I have it, though I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed by it. I played PSO on dreamcast, and this game just doesn't seem to have that same spark. I'm hoping it's due to the lack of content, so we'll see. If the December 8th update does not make the game anymore enjoyable than it is now, then I'll probably leave it entirely.

Current character: Raptor

Apparently they're going to be adding more stuff on a weekly basis starting next week, so I think I'll stick around till all the updates are through.

ooooh!

Well this most certainly has me killing my WoW sub. I got like 10 billion questions!

1. The system Req's for PC ask for a gamepad with analog support, is that absolutley needed or just suggested?

2. Is this game all PvE?

3. Uber lootz? yes no? (just wondering what the itemization is like)

4. Whats the learning curve like? I am guessing its all covered in the single player.

1. Analog support makes it much easier. *edit*
Minimum: 1.6GHz P4, 256MB RAM, 9.0GB HDD, 64MB video card, DirectX 9.0c
Recommended: 2.8Ghz P4, 512MB RAM, 128MB Video Card

Despite that, however, some spots lag pretty bad for me even on a 2GB RAM computer with a 2.19GhZ AMD Processor, and I have frameskip rates set to 1 to boot.

2. Can't kill other players, nomatter where you go (unfortunately - servers 1 + 2 are loaded with 4channers, which can drive most anyone into a homicidal state)

3. If you join someone's party, the leader can set drops rules (items/money either goto people in order, random, or by whoever picks up the item. most set it to order to be fair. Money/Items both go down their own player lists, also)

4. it's not too tough if you have a controller from what I've heard. If you play off a keyboard it can be a total pain in the butt.

1. Stated above

2. All player vs. Monster. PvP would be laughable in this game.

3. Depends on the party setup. Personally, I think the looting system is skewed.
-One method is whoever can get to the items quickest gets the loot.
-The second method is whoever has the least amount of items or money automatically gets the items no matter who picks them up (say there's a person with 2k meseta and one with 20k meseta. There person with the 2k meseta will automatically get all meseta drops in the mission).
-The third looting option is random. While picking up the items, it goes to a random person in the party.

I have yet to see an armor drop. Mostly it's been cheap weapons and stuff for the mag thing (personal companion?).

At first it seems that your characters are a bit poor to afford item upgrades but if you do enough solo farming (takes a while), money is not too hard to come by. Although I have noticed mission leeches who come in at the last part just to kill one monster and get their money and mission points. The best way to stop them is to password the mission before going in. It is not a very social thing to do but best when trying to earn money and exp (you have to tag monsters at least once in order to gain exp).

4. It is recommended to use a controller while playing this game. I tried the keyboard just for kicks and it's annoying. How to kill the mobs: easy. There is no real strat to killing mobs besides matching their elemental properties, get a good distance (if playing a ranger or force type), and firing away. Force has no targeting ability so it is a guess about the range or where the spells will go. Hunters are mostly close combat.

The story mode will teach you how to do certain things but at a slower pace than someone online explaining it.

Depending on how social you are or want the online version to be, it can almost seem like a one player console game at times. Extra mode is opened offline after completing chapter four of story mode. Only downfall is that these characters are all offline and silly items like room decor and clothing are really expensive while weapons and armor are cheap (and you earn more meseta on offline missions).

So far not much new content has been opened up and most of my friends are bored with it. There's also a forum spot on the offical PSU site which might give a little insight about the community (PSO world too). Eh, it was a good idea but lacks in a lot of areas now. When PSO came out, not many other MMOs were around and there were not expecations of how a MMO should play. Although on the other hand, there is no worry about camping things for endless hours or competition of certain mobs.

Actually Ranpha. If someone joins a mission already in progress, without being in the party before it started, they get graded C - which yields no meseta or points. I join missions in progress to skip through areas I don't care much for to go through pretty quickly.

Hrm... still party crashers are annoying so I lock most of my solo parties. :3 /anti-social

The other versions of the game had Challenge Mode. So PvP wouldn't be laughable, it's just not implemented at this time and no news of it ever being placed into the game can be found.

As per itemization from the guy with the questions: Rare items are mostly crafted. You gather special materials from rare boss spawns, within your instance, or just from being totally lucky and them dropping. There are also some items of rare state that are dropped in their usable state.

This game is all about getting items and craft materials. Thought the story is good, if you do not like treasure hunting your enjoyment will be short spanned. Personally, I love the game but that has a lot to do with me loving the story.

The controller part... This game is a console port. Every PSO game has been a console game until lately and therfore they are built for consoles. So the game is meant to be played with a controller and it shows, believe you, me.

Aside from all of that I think everyone else pretty much answered all your questions. I will tell you this before you go off canceling other subscriptions. This game doesn't work like FFXI or WoW and thus the addiction factor probably will not present itself. You'll probably end up playing this game like a console game, a lot at first and then in pick-up, put-down relaxation.

Also, stay away from the official and PSOWorld forums. They suck, realllllllly bad unless you like to whine or can't RTFM. PSOWorld has a nifty items database though.

Enjoy

**Edit** To Skaw: Your grade from joining a party in progress doesn't start as C. It depends on what block the party is in and how much you contribute from that point on. I've gotten an A once. Usually I get a B because I do not join parties over 5-6 min long. If you're doing De Ragan, 5-6 min will get you a C because it's so short.

I really do not remember a challenge mode unless that was put in place after I left PSO. I played before the release on the Gamecube and when the only PvP was PKing (was not fair PvP lol... and why everyone locked parties).
